from Munnar, India recommends this hotel
Room Quality: 4/5
Service Quality: 5/5
Dining Quality: 3/5
As I drove down from Delhi and entered Agra, I felt that the hotel is at the other end of the city, almost 15 KM from the city entrance. We passed the fort, and the Taj itself, before finally landing up at the hotel. But the good thing about the location is that the hotel is very near to the East Gate of entrance to the Taj Mahal. The road on which the hotel is located is very wide, neat and clean. We found three hotels on this road. One is the Taj Plaza itself, next is the Oberoi Amar Vilas, and then Taj Khema of UPTDC. The landmarks for reaching the hotel are the other two hotels and the Taj east gate.
The Hotel has no covered parking but has space to park about six cars, just in front of its entrance. I left my car there for the night with an assurance from the hotel that it is absolutely safe.
The hotel is located on chinnakanal. Chinnakanal is ~22Kms from Munnar town. If you are coming from Dindugal, Theni. Munthal, then you will get Chinnakanal first and then Munnar. The hotel is located 3Kms from the diversion towards chinnakanal from Munnar road. The road from Munthal (start climbing the hill) till Munnar was closed between 8AM till 5AM beacuse of road widening work. We started from Bangalore around 5:30AM and reached Munthal around 2:30PM. But then had to wait till 5PM. Chinnakanal is a beautiful place souranded with Tea gardens. This is a quite place away from noise and polution of the city. This resort is on the foot hills of a mountain. It provides good views of the mountains & far away valley.
The Front desk:
The staff (especially Mr Siji - the Manager) was very helpfull. The room was ready for us when we reached at 7:30PM. He guided us to take the car directly in front of the room to unload our baggaes and then bring it back to parking. This resort has a open parking enough for all the guests. The next day Mr Siji helped us with good suggestions on sightseeing places, arranges a Jeep for visiting Kolukomalai Tea Factory. He was kind enough to ask for room service and always ready to provide good service. He was a very cheerful person.
We got a room facing the Valley and good for Sunrise. It has a private Verandah with chairs. The room size was ok, but the bed size is a Queen bed size and not a King bed. Its big enough for 2 people, but may be little congested for 2 Adults and one kid. They were offering extra beds in the room. The room, bathroom were reasonably clean. The bathroom had a toilet, and a hand shower. No bathtub or fixed shower. They had 24 Hrs hot water facility. Initially the hot water had problem, but after reporting the problem they fixed it within 30 mins. Which was realy good.
My suggestions will be to provide a King Bed and replace the tube TV with a LCD TV.
Food & Room Service:
We took the dinner in the hotel the first night. As I had read the previous reviews and true to their policy they take time to prepare and make it fresh. We ordered babycorn masala but as they could not arrange babycorn, we got Mashroom Masala. Taking time is fine but the dinner food quality can be improved. They can take 10 more mins and do it better. Bake the paratha properly and fry the masala little more.
The complementary breakfast was very good. They provided cook to order Egg Omlets on all the days along with Idly, Dosa/ Uthapam, Upma / Pakoda, Bread Butter/Jam etc. The resturant service was good, they were looking forward to help.
Room service was also quite fast. They provided extra towels, Soaps when needed. Everyday 1 bottle of drinking water was free. They used to do daily room cleaning service.
On the whole, the hotel is a good budget resort with high value for money. Though there are better hotels in this area, the value for money and the service is the plus points of this resort. They also have a small garden for young kids to play.
