I have mixed reviews about this place. While booking a home stay, one cannot expect a 4 or 5 star retreat, however, you cannot overlook the lack of service. Pros: 1. Mr. Thankappan and his wife are very welcoming. They live right there at the ground level. 2. The lawn attached with a garden is in full bloom and very pleasing to the eye. 3. Parking space is available. 4. Location of the house is good, about 10 kms from Munnar city. 5. One of the bedroom has an attached balcony with a view of the hills that is breathtaking. 6. Beds were prepared before our arrival 8. Out of the three bedrooms, two bedrooms had two single bed attached while the third bedroom had a single bed available and hence can accommodate 5 people accordingly however they do make arrangement in case you are more than 5 people at an additional cost offcourse. 9. The living room can comfortably accommodate 7-8 people (seated) great space for entertaining. Cons: 1. We went during the month of February when it's not the peak season, Mr. Thankappan did not respond to my booking on Airbnb and hence I had to approach him directly. He told me that he will take direct booking at Rs. 10000/- for two days for 6 people. When we reached Chitirapuram there are two hotels bang opposite to this house. One of the hotels even offered us a Super Deluxe room for 1500 for 2 people all-inclusive with breakfast. We soon regretted the decision of booking this place since comparatively it was expensive with no room service and no breakfast. Nevertheless since we made the bookings with prior payment we continued our stay there. 2. As soon as we arrived, we were asked to make the balance payment of Rs. 5000/- since during booking we made 50% of the payment. Since we did not have change we were told that balance 1000 Rs would be given to us by evening which we did not receive. The next day when I asked for the refund I was told that he will return it on the day of the checkout. 3. The living room is cluttered with items on display (Awards, family picture, miniature of the house in wood). 4. Munnar being a hill station you do not need an air-condition but when all the windows/doors are locked you tend to feel claustrophobic. The fan in the rooms had faulty switches, but instead of apologizing, Mr Thankappan seemed to make excuses blaming it on previous guests who may have misused it. How does every fan in each room have faulty switches then? 5. We were offered breakfast (Appam and Vegetable stew curry) the following morning under the guise that it wasn't something they usually offer to all guest's, which we highly appreciated at the time. But during check-out the breakfast was charged to the balance he owed us in return, sneaky I must say. I denied to pay for such underhanded approach. Clearly Mr Thankappan wasn't happy, as his expression said it all. Although before leaving, we paid him what was owed which Mr. Thankappan gladly accepted without a shrug. Speaks volumes of his attitude. 6. He recommended and insisted that we visit this restaurant (Expensive restaurant) opposite his place for our dinner. He was too quick to make the booking. The restaurant has good ambience but there was no one at the restaurant except us. The restaurant was overpriced with not even a half decent sandwich for Pete's sake. 7. Showboating and bragging has its limitations, but it's lost on some people. When one is so full of himself, it's unclear to see the level of improvement required. Personally i would not return to this place for another stay.
