We stayed as a family of 4 in two rooms over the weekend. The property in itself breathes opulence and old world colonial charm. The wooden furnishings seem to be solid teak wood or mahogany and are wonderful. The grand dining room is a phenomena in itself along with the lovely chandelier at the entrance. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the basic rooms which we took had a lovely bed room, a powder room, a well appointed bath room and the back door opening out to a pristine verandah. Here are a few con's which I observed: *The in room coffee maker in Room 23 was damaged and was immediately replaced when brought to the attention of the front office. *The flush in Room 24 was not working properly which was again fixed immediately when brought to notice. *In a property of this caliber, I'm assuming all of these things should have been checked prior to the room being rented out to guests? I'm assuming this was an oversight. *When we visited the grand dining hall for dinner, I asked the usher if Ala'carte' options were available, and she said yes they were, whereas the head waiter contradicted her statement and said it wasn't since there was an event being hosted at the hotel and hence guests would have to partake of the buffet. I should hope restaurant staff should be calibrated before informing the guest? :) *In the course of the buffet dinner, I wanted a repeat of the strawberry tart and I was told that it was finished. I had counted only 6 covers since we went fairly early for dinner at around 8 PM? A five star running out of a second helping in a buffet after feeding 6 covers was a little surprising? The saving grace was Kuldeep who promptly came over and inquired and said that he could get us a tart if we waited for a few minutes, but I wasn't in the mood by then. *Kuldeep who was part of the restaurant staff was indeed a star and he was constantly uet unobtrusively present taking care of our smallest of needs. A fantastic employee and an asset to the property. *We had mentioned that we were celebrating 2 special occasions, namely my parents 35th wedding anniversary and our short yet sweet honeymoon together when we made our reservations on travel guru and I also informed the reception about this. I was a tad disappointed that there wasn't even a single special gesture from the hotel for any of these occasions. If I am asked if I will stay here again, the answer is definitely a yes for the property, but I do hope they resolve the teething service issues.

We put up at the Savoy for 3 days in the last week of December and we spent all of those three days patting ourselves on our backs for having chosen this hotel. The grandeur of the property and the warmth of the staff was matched only by the cheerful sunny weather in Mussoorie on those days. The view of the mountain ranges from the hotel is majestic - in fact, far better than what one would get from the Gun Hill , as we realized the next day. And the terrace next to the dining hall is the perfect place to laze in the winter sun, with the glittering peaks completing the picture. Not really surprising - considering that the founders of the hotel 115 years back would have picked the most scenic spot in the Mussoorie of those days. And what a choice of location !! This serene seclusion is right above the bustle of Library Chowk, The food is excellent and the breakfast spread is lavish. On the flip side, they charge some ridiculous amount for bottles of packaged drinking water beyond the 2 small bottles they provide free each day. But one can easily get around it by picking up extra bottles of water ( Rs.20/- each) from the numerous shops just below the hotel. Overall, this hotel does live up to its splendid heritage. The efficient management and service also ensures that one carries fond memories of the stay.

New Year's Eve New Year's Eve

by Nama2k on January 7, 2017

We picked Mussoorie for our New Years Eve. We are 14 friends. We were booking Jaypee but since it was sold out decided on going to Fortune Savoy. Turned out the location of the hotel was excellent. Just next to the Mall Road. Due to the New Year's Eve rush, the road to the hotel was totally jam, we were lucky we didn't have to take the car as we were on the Mall Road. The property was excellent. The pictures are true to the hotel. The Dal at the hotel is excellent if you like makhani dal. The worst part of the hotel is room service. This hotel doesn't have sufficient staff for high season and also doesn't have sufficient crockery and cutlery. We asked for spoons they never came and wine glasses they said they had only 2-3 glasses and those were taken up at the bar. Except for these exceptions the overall property is excellent.

The hotel is on mall street entrance but once you enter the property you are "transported away" from the hustle and bustle of the street. The staff were excellent. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Christmas eve dinner buffet was superb. The room is spacious, clean, comfortable with stunning mountain views. Wifi was stable, 4 devices allowed to connect. Excellent games room for kids. Would definitely stay again if in Mussoorie
