Not Your Usual Hotel Not Your Usual Hotel

by Jnanayog on October 23, 2016

I have stayed at the Carltons Plaisance several times and was happy with the service, it's location and the very distinct difference from the 'run of the mill' hotels in mussooire. It's located along the road towards Happy Valley, thus away from the human and vehicular traffic of the Mall area. Don't expect to find a similar Hotel to what you might have been accustomed to rather a unique edifice from the era when Mussooire was know as one of the desirable Hill Stations for the British and the Raj era. The Hotel is reasonably well maintained, walls are decorated with pics of an era gone by, wood stove in your room should the cooler air of the Hills not be to your liking, views to valley my preference, great breakfast and super area to begin a trek to George Everest Camp.

Proximity, At home feel, natural and peaceful atmosphere, large and spacious rooms is what defines Carlton. We had a very good time there. Good service. We extremely liked it's unique antique ambience that sets it apart from the other hotels of Mussoorie. We booked a cottage which was very quiet. The family who runs it were very friendly and caring. One must visit it.

A Lovely Getaway A Lovely Getaway

by G.S. K on July 11, 2016

Tucked away in the green hills of Mussoorie, the Carlton Hotel is housed in a pre-Independence chateau that is steeped in old-world charm. Situated well away from the hustle and bustle of the Mall Road, the hotel offers guests a peaceful getaway. The room we stayed in was cozy and comfortable. The highlight was easily the breathtaking prospect it afforded us of the lush hillside. A lovely sunlit antechamber and direct access to the lovely gardens made the room that much more wonderful. The staff are warm and friendly, while the food is quite tasty. All in all, a lovely spot for a short holiday. - Kartikeya P.S. Do take the time to hike up the hill behind the hotel. At the summit is a lovely temple with spectacular views. P.P.S. I'd like to make a special mention of the owner's friendliness and helpfulness (especially when it came to offering useful suggestions for places to visit)

Worst hotel Smelly rooms Over charge for every thing No arrangements for drivers. Rude staff. Poor food. We had to upgrade the room because the deluxe room was smelly and had to shell out an exorbitant amount to get suite which is also not at all worth the price. Bathrooms are stinking and you get no hot water..... It is around 4 to 5 kms from mall road where as the location on the site is mall road. Just 2 men is the total staff of this place. It is more like a hostel stay than a hotel stay. Unrecommended to everyone.

Carltons - Old world Charm- Chic LIKE! Carltons - Old world Charm- Chic LIKE!

by PoonamChakraborty on July 1, 2016

I along with my family decided to spend the long weekend at Mussoorie. A lot many places where I have stayed in earlier were sold out and that is when I came across Carltons Plaisance. For many who do not know the word Plaisance if a French word derived from a Latin word Placentia meaning Pleasantness. Surfing through the internet I came across one bill board picture which stated "Your last stop for Cold Coffee, Fish & Chips" Way back during my spontaneous road trip with friends to Mussorie I remember while walking to Company Bagh passing through the same place and how I peeped in to find the amazing Colonial building standing in mid of pine trees and promising myself to return soon. I made the arrangements via mail and Mrs. Anu was there to answer all my queries whatever it may be. The hotel is situated next to LBSNA Academy, Happy Valley Road. No this place is not suitable or suggested for people who wish to stay at busy by-lanes of the hill station but for travellers like us who like peace, tranquillity and travel to escape the hustle bustle of the city. We booked the Suite and a room near the garden area. Having a cup of tea while sitting on a swing, midst of the garden covered with Pine trees in a breezy evening, humming your favourite song. How cool is that? Best time to explore the property is early morning. I went to the backyard and what a beautiful view of the sunrise they have. the flowers Mrs. Anu has gardened are too pretty and a gateau where you can sit back, born fires are arranged here and you enjoy a barbecue too if you wish like. This is completely a Chic Place. The place has a old world charm. The dining room where Mrs. Anu serves her guests scrumptious meals and the walls reflect the glorious tales of the hairline. I am not too sure to how many people Mr. Ajit, a very gentlemen and Mrs. Anu's husband (who happens to be a Nawab himself) open too. But while havinga conversation with the duo Anu shared a lot many tales of hunting days of her Nawab. Ajit uncle, did offer us a tour to the room full of antiques and mounted animals. Lucky ME! Anu, like a sweet lady she is did guide us for off beat treks and places to see and how happy I am to have met these two people. The food that will be served to you is a no Hoax food very hard to find in cities these days. The food is homelike. For people who have been cursing the place to be too far from Mussorie - Mall road, you guys should have checked everything online before making the bookings. The address on their Website as well as on Google states the place is in Happy Valley Road. No offence to anyone but it is indeed a high maintenance place the prices these people are charging is next top nothing for a place like this.
