I spent the last weekend here with 3 of my friends. We had booked through a travel website and got a good deal for 2 duplex rooms.
- Spacious rooms with modern amenities.
- All rooms have lake view (manmade lake).
- As the name suggests, the resort was pin drop silent.
- Newspaper delivered to the rooms every morning.
- Good room service. One of our rooms had issue with the air conditioning and that was immediately rectified.
- Complimentary breakfast buffet had a good spread and was tasty too.
- Very reasonably priced.
- The room was a bit dusty (specially under the sofa). Tiny cob webs in some corners too.
- The mini bar (I understand its not complimentary) was empty. No cookies or nuts. Whereas the other room we booked had all of this.
- I was disappointed with the buffet breakfast area. The table cloth had tiny holes here and there and the entire place lacked cleanliness
Situated 20 mins away from Mysuru, one can really unwind, relax from the otherwise hustle-bustle city lives, enjoy quality food with family and near-dear ones. Specially the Soft Roti's and mouth watering starters both Vegans and Non-Vegans, main courses . However need to improve quality of soup, as well grilled items. Economical place, yet a bit high on pocket comparatively, but worth the price with spacious lawn as well kids play arena and much more to offer. Overall a great food for taste, ambience, hospitality, neat resort for best dine and tour experience. Yet some issues which can be solved are that food specially NV main course takes a longggggg longggggg time to be served specially at night. Best menu- Roti Basket with Butter peperry chicken, Or kolhapur chicken curry and for Vegans it ought to be paneer tikka masala or mixed veg haandi. Also something to die hard for are variety of ice cream mix served with desserts.
Highly recommend it for the food, well maintained sprawled lawns and kids entertainment at it's best.
Cons:- Oily content to be controlled, Price range to be made more effective, Soups to be made more people friendly viz not very bland, night food serving time to be prioritized and made better.
We stayed at Silent Shores for 3 days. I must say what a beautiful resort it is, nestled only 20mins from Mysore city. After having waded through both the horrendous traffic & pollution in Bangalore, the resort came to us as a pleasant surprise. Right from the time we entered the resort, we felt like we were in a completely different time and space all together. The Gulmohars and the greenery almost instantly flood you with ta sense of calm & peace.
It is a pretty big resort and my daughter enjoyed cycling around, enjoying the sights and sounds the resort had to offer. Equipped with a good sized swimming pool it was a delightful place to relax. The resort also has a game area with a pool table where my husband spent a lot of his time and my daughter on the trampoline outside. The rooms were spacious with a beautiful balcony overlooking the pond with fountains. A generous array of fruits were provided in each room as we entered. Evenings were pleasant and the resort lights up including the fountains which is a sight to remember. With flora so beautiful, you get to see so many different species of birds that the resort is home to. We had colorful visitors in our balcony when we sipped on our tea every morning. Though they have a yoga room with a view of the pool, I preferred the outdoors where I truly enjoyed my practice & meditation.
The hospitality at the resort was by far the best we have experienced. We love travelling and have visited resorts around the world. However silent Shores has topped our list when it comes to hospitality & care for customers. Sujith, Rakesh, Lokesh, Basava are a few who remembered our names and our preferences. They were so observant about our needs that without our asking we had things done for us.
The food was execellent. Chef Muthus Chandrakala dessert is to die for. I am a lover of Indian sweets and this one definitely hit the spot. It is amazing that everything including the bread is freshly baked at the resort. The breakfast is lavish and Lokeshs freshly made omelettes are something we discuss at the breakfast table in Sydney every morning.
I cannot compliment the Ayurvedic Spa enough. Asha & Sujatha have wonderful healing hands. They started off with a prayer, followed by a massage & shirodhara. The ladies are true professionals and really know the art of Ayurveda. The body paste that they provided after the massage was absolutely divine. My skin felt wonderful and I did carry some back home to Sydeny which I am enjoying now.
Silent shores was the highlight of visit to India after so many years. Irrespective of all the developments in and around Mysore, the resort has continued to maintain the charm & awe of Karnataka that I remember & connected to as a child.
Thank you Silent shores for bringing back some fond memories for me and giving us the best holiday weve had in ages!
Some areas for improvement:
The restaurant Ambience & Decor could have been better and the Thai cuisine more authentic. I guess they have tried to improvise the recipes to suit the Indian palate. But I would suggest maintaining its authenticity.
Apart from that the only other comment I have is that my holiday was far too short. I cant wait to be back at Silent shores again soon!
To warn for quick readers this is a long and detailed review. Probably the longest review I have ever wrote.
Checkin: Checkin was simple and did not take much time.
Room: I booked for "spa suite" seeing room description from the website. But it wasnt what was mentioned in the website. I was told website was outdated and it was description of old room type! Website description and photos is not the real description of rooms. Still I could live with that and proceeded to spending time off in the resort.
Now the spa suite is located in a block where spa is located adjacent to pool. The room is the most expensive in the resort, so had some expectations. The room had no balcony. The only view is of pool and another side is parking and open drainage which gets stinky sometimes, with foul smell all over. Interestingly the drainage pass through the middle of the resort which is an eyesore. I wonder why it is not covered!
"Water burn" : Spa suite is two rooms with two bathrooms. Bathroom is more interesting, the whole spa block there is no cold water. When in blue position its hot water and red its very hot water. I called maintenance guys 3-4 time over 2 days before giving up. Everytime they come, the solution they had is to drain the water for 5 mins. I drained (wasted) water for 5 mins, and stil hot water. The situation was same in swimming pool shower and even inside spa. Two days without normal water in taps was horrible.
Staff: Staff were friendly and polite. They listen to you, for everything you need. I really appreciate warm smile of the staff. The only problem with them they did not had solutions to the problem. Right from room type, no one had any clue until I talked about the details of room type from website word by word. The maintenance guys hygiene levels were surprisingly too low. They came with shoes inside rooms and made it muddy. Only one time they offered to clean it up.
Another weird thing that I saw was when they were trying to fix hand shower near to the closet. He removed the cap of the shower head and put the rest inside the closet(yes the place where we poo and piss). He cleaned the cap, took back the hand shower from closet and fixed it back. This was disgusting. Everyone looked neat and clean, but these were the things they do. Any tap or bathtub we try to use, it starts leaking from somewhere. BTW the bathtub with jacuzzi was practically unusable since its always hot water that comes out.
Spa: For the room type mess up, we were given two spa coupons which was a warm gesture from the management. Both me and my wife took appointments. Her appointment was first, and it got delayed by 30 mins. Mine was 1 hour treatment and it took 1.5 hours. I opted for their signature spa. It was nothing like a signature spa, it was like regular spa with oil massage and steam. I was given slipper which made me feel like ant wearing an elephants slipper and that too it was too oily. Good that I did not fell down. After the treatment I was to bath, and then the heck comes, the therapist explains, this knob you get hot water and if you turn, you get very hot water. I asked him where is the cold water? He was just stammering. Everyone knew there is plumbing issue with hot and cold water mixing and all were playing ignorance. The I asked my wife how it went, she wasnt that happy with hair wet with oil and they did not do blow dry. And for just blow dry another Rs1400 ($20+) bucks which was ridiculously expensive. So its indirect way of making money. Her therapist was average, especially when the therapist shared some medical triva, my wife (doctor) was literally laughing. One of the trivia was once you do massage shoulder muscles it will become soft!!! Since her hair got oiled she was forced to take a blow dry. Result was too amateurish. Overall it was a bad idea to try the spa. After my spa I was given a feedback sheet with three options : Excellent, Good and Average!. There was no option below average, probably making sure people always tick the good. I ticked the average for my experience and soon the therapist turned up in my room, asking why I have rated average, which he felt was same as poor. I had to explain its not poor, I have put average. He looked dejected and had to convince him and make him happy its not about the person, but the treatment type which is average. Overall the spa was overrated and expensive.
Swimming pool: Swimming pool was only good thing about the resort. And probably thats the only time we had some fun time. Since it was public holidays pool was little bit crowded, but there was space for all. The swimming pool ladders are quite shaky though.
Water quality: Water is salty taste in both pool and rooms. At night staff take water from the pool to clean the common areas. It wasnt comfortable to use the water for brushing the teeth. For drinking always take bottled water. Water bottle costs around Rs65!!! which was a kill. Better buy water bottles from outside for cheap price.
Room service: Room service was prompt. All times food was delivered in 30-40 mins which is reasonable. One time they brought pepper jar and it didnt had any pepper in it. I believe no one checks anything before delivering.
Restaurant and food. Food selection is reasonable. Probably the name and the actual item may not match. Chicken schezwan and manchurian almost tasted same. Chicken chettinad was nowhere near the actual one. Curries are on oily side. Yet everything tasted good. But it wasnt that stomach friendly. Was not comfortable having so much oil. Good that stomach did not went that bad. Breakfast was neat, with mostly south indian food and some western food (bread and various cakes). There was live counters for dosas and omlets. There are also other restaurants and cafes. Cafe near swimming pool would be nice place to relax in swimming pool hours.
Amenities: Apart from swimming pool where most people spend time, there is sports room with various sports and games. Cycling is another popular sport over there. With the crowd, sports amenities maybe bit short of. There is open theater which I believe is partially closed because of new constructions. There is very small kids play area, and an artificial lake.
Checkout: After having all roller coaster ride, at 12 noon I called the reception for checkout. They replied they will send the bell boy in 10 mins. After 20 mins no one came. Again called, 10 mins more. This extended till 12.50pm and I told we are hungry and will go at 2pm so that your bell boy would be free. We packed everything at 12noon and now had to checkout at 2pm. Again had to have that oily food plus expensive mineral water since its not complementary for the extended time.
Overall I do not recommend this for the very reason, it is not worth the price that you pay. With the amount that is spent here, the best resort in mysore would have given an amazing experience. Silent shore and spa is nothing like real resort experience though everything looks like resort. The major shortcomings are
1. Bad maintenance. Bad plumbing, open drains.
2. Oily food.
3. Low skilled staff in maintenance and spa. More importantly lack of knowledge in hygiene (like putting hand shower inside closet and using swimming pool water for cleaning floors at night)
4. Reception guys needs to manage the checkout process when it is crowded. Honesty always scores. They can always tell upfront that it is going to get delayed so that the guests can plan accordingly. No need to tell the 10 mins story again and again.
5. ill tasting water in taps.
I believe why Silent shore failed was lack of competition in Mysore. There are only two resorts in Mysore Windflower and silent shores. Silent shores are far behind in quality and worthiness for the price. It had totally ignored the small and big maintenance issues which really matters to basic guest experience. The guest do not checkin to a resort to fix resorts' problems!. For me it was total waste of money for room where bathroom was hardly usable and the facilities was very average.
Should you go?: If you are looking for alternative for regular hotels for a days' stay and ready to pay more, silent shores may be for you, with swimming pool and sports room. If you are looking for relaxed time for resort experience I really doubt if this is the place especially if you had gone to resorts like windflower.
And to the manager: Kindly do not call/mail me for more details like why I have given this rating, as it is the practice in the resort for every staff to call back and trying to convince nothing has gone wrong, like the spa therapist, the front desk guys asking questions until I gave favorable reply. Take the guts to accept the honest feedback as it is, to improve the staff, rooms and amenities at the resort.
It's a beautiful resort with a artificial lake, swimming pool, kids play area, indoor games n 2 restaurants. They have a very good breakfast buffet. We had booked duplex deluxe room. It was spacious with a bedroom, living room n balcony n 2 TVs. Room service was excellent. I found the Bella italiano restaurant quite expensive. Its a beautiful n well maintained property. staff is very cordial. Definitely worth a visit.
