Heritage recovery Heritage recovery

This NeemRana group of properties is doing a very good job of reviving and maintaining some of the old old historical places throughout India. Once you are done with the bit complicated and irritating process of making your booking during which you are made to feel as if it is the NeemRana guys who are obliging you to let you stay at their hotels/non-hotels, the experience of staying at such places is quite nice. The Bungalow on the Beach in this past-Danish colony town Tranquebar is keeping up the promise - very good setting, fantastic rooms, great friendly service, with matching high prices for food. Room-price-included breakfast is good and fulfilling. Well done NeemRana - but please be a bit more welcoming during the process of booking - you need us and we need nice historical heritage experience.

Terrible Lunch @ Bunglow on the Beach Terrible Lunch @ Bunglow on the Beach

by Abhi K on February 20, 2017

We visited this place on 18th Feb, had lots of expectation as the building looked beautiful, sea breeze was amazing. I had done some reading about the Danish Fort & the Bungalow near by so decided to drive down while visiting Karaikal. We ordered for some continental & Indian food, 1st of all service was terrible, it took us around 15 mins to find someone who could take the order. We decided to ignore that minor flip flop from the hotel but it was just the beginning. Lunch was horrible, Indian Bread (Chapatis) were dried up, Pasta & Prawns were not at all edible, butter milk or let's some sort of dirty/pale looking drink in a glass. I suggest never to try this place.

We stayed in the Princess Louise room - the largest room. It is a corner room with dual aspect - absolutely stunning. We requested at time of booking and were lucky to get our choice. The food was very good sadly no alcohol but not a big problem for us. The house stands right next to the pink Fort on the sea front. I would definitely stay again.

Visit to Neemrana's Bungalow on the Beach Visit to Neemrana's Bungalow on the Beach

by Shekhar D on January 29, 2017

Recently we visited the property on the recommendation of one of our acquaintances. When we entered the hotel it was pouring heavily. While we were completely drenched the guards were just watching us and it did not occur to them to provide umbrelas to protect us from the rains. Our friends wanted a particular room which they had booked( facing the sea). Was told tha it is not available. The rooms are very old and its upkeep leaves a lot to be desired. The height of the bed is abnormally high and they have provided a stool to climb on to it!. We were hungry and went to the dining section. As anticipated most of the items on the menu list was not available. I had ordered a Masala Dosa and what came as a dosa was a mockery of this item. Same story for the breakfast with no cutlery laid on the table and very few items to choose from. The main attraction of the place is the Danish fort. Again the museum in the fort was a very big let down. For the fancy price the hotel charges its a huge huge disappointment.

We went with another couple. Drove down from Chennai. It took us about 6.5 hours with a couple of breaks for breakfast and lunch. The bungalow, as its name suggests, is right on the beach. Lovely old bungalow, beautifully maintained. It has eight well-appointed rooms, a lovely swimming pool and a good restaurant. Breakfast is complimentary. Lunch and dinner are ala carte. The room is good sized with a four-poster bed. Extra bed is available on demand. Old furniture completes the ambience. The bathroom is also provided with all essential toiletries. A balcony runs around the upstairs rooms with lovely views of the Danish fort and the beach. There is a constant breeze that is very pleasant and can sometimes be really windy. The best time to visit is during November to February when the weather is really pleasant. There is a chess board, some books and the swimming pool for entertainment. The restaurant serves great food (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) and the prices are very reasonable. The Danish fort is just across. There are several temples, Velankanni, Point Calimere and Nagoor Dargah within driving distance. We stayed for two nights and it was well worth it. Lovely place to relax.
