A beautiful property on the beach A beautiful property on the beach

by Clement W on October 21, 2016

We stopped by Tarnquebar to see the Danish township that has been partially restored and maintained by the ASI. This was the closest restaurant in the vicinity and though the locals warned us that it was expensive we chose to enjoy the experience and so we entered the restaurant. Due to the low traffic and as it is a premium property the restaurant appears to be focused more on the stay in guests. The limited menu offers a mix of Indian and Continental dishes. We opted for a mix of both and as they assured that the sea food was from the morning's catch we opted for prawns. The service is leisurely in keeping with the theme of the hotel and it was visible that we were one of the two families who had come from outside. the other diners were guests at the hotel. The staff are friendly and quite helpful in suggesting options. The food was good and the pricing is in line with the premium nature of the hotel. After lunch we also saw the rooms. The rooms are beautiful and remind of the colonial days. The hotel was booked for the season and it is obviously a great place to just relax and unwind in the bungalow on the beach

The location is spectacular and there is a quaint charm to this property. The town is very small and used to be occupied by the Dutch ages ago. The best way to enjoy this would be to do nothing at all. Long strolls by the sea if one can and if not then just sit back and enjoy the views from the corridors here. They do have a huge lawn and swimming pool to keep kids occupied. The in house food options are good enough and if you are not satisfied you can drive out to the town and explore a bit if you wish to. I loved my views with a book and some piping hot tea. The maintenance and upkeep of this property is phenomenal and the views are to die for. Lovely lovely break for us!! The food is also very good and the kitchen is very friendly. I put in a request and they were more than happy to oblige.

Very nice place. Bang by the beach. Tranquebar is a quaint idyllic old danish settlement. There is not much to do in this town but i would highly recommend this place for a nice vacation. sit by the beach or in the first floor of the hotel and watch the sea or grab a nice book. it has a very nice pool. very helpful staff. the food at this place is really nice and I would recommend the sea food. Early morning walks by the sea, watching the fishermen leave for fishing, watch the sunset in the evening- a relaxed vacation. It does not have a bar licence and hence liquor is not served. There are eight rooms, ask for a room in the first floor facing the sea where the views of the sea are nice. a great place for a nice 3 day vacation where one does nothing. The masilamani nadar temple and the dansborg fort are the only two attractions in tranquebar.

Our family containing self, husband and our 8 year old daughter stayed in the Bungalow on the beach during May 2016. We got reference of this place from few colleagues of my husband. Booking was done through their online portal. Luckily we got a sea facing room in the first floor. They got only 8 rooms- four in the ground floor and 4 in the first floor. Out of this 2 each rooms in ground and first floor are sea facing. Anyway, it does not make any huge difference as all the rooms are connected from outside through a large common balcony. So, even if you did not get a sea facing room, you can have a nice sea view by roaming in the balcony. It really is a bungalow built in the early 20th centuary and preserved in a nice way with additions of modern amenities without spoiling the charming look of ancient architecture. Rooms are very spacious and can easily accommodate 2 adults and 2 children under 12 years. Bathroom is neat and clean but a little bit narrow. Room is provided with easy chairs of old type which can be used for reading books or just relaxing. In the common balcony also, such chairs are provided for having a leisurely view of sea. The premises are sprawling and walkways are provided for jogging. A medium size swimming pool is also available with decent wash rooms adjoining for changing clothes and taking bath. Food options are very limited but the food was served hot and tasty. The waiters were always smiling and ready to serve the way we want. This attitude of the waiters is really appreciable since you cannot expect it at such a remote place and seemingly unprofessional environment. The prized catch of this hotel is its proximity to sea- the bay of Bengal and the beach of Tarangambadi. The room we stayed has a view of sea in the back and the view of Danish fort in the side. It was really marvellous in the morning to have a view of rising sun from our balcony. In the breakfast they serve mostly south indian items only. So don't expect any pooris or aloo paratha. Options are limited in the other diets also, but whatever available was of tasty. In fact in such a remote place with only 8 rooms with occupancy rate varying, you can't expect a vast menu. Our 3 day stay was very peaceful and enjoyable except a bitter incident occurred while checkout. The reception guy who was present while we checkout was an arrogant person and is visibly not groomed for this kind of profession. I had requested for a bill with room charges and taxes showing separately, but this guy instead started telling about something else. As we had online booking, there was no issue of making of any payment there. In none of the days we could find this person in the reception, but it seems that he appeared there just to spoil our peaceful days there. He was even advising us to not to choose such places for stay if it is not affordable to us which indirectly means we don't deserve a stay there. This too, at a time when we were not asking anything about their tariff. We were planning to give a grand tip to the staff of the property while checkout but this guy entirely changed our mood and forced us to vacate the place in an unpleasure manner. I do not remember his name now but hope management will take suitable action against him by going through their muster rolls for the day of 12th May 2016. Rest of the experience was simply superb!!!

The Neemrana, as always, is the best place to stay in this gorgeous town. Beautiful location, right on the beach, lovely rooms and good food. A great place to stay, read books through the day and explore the town in. The evenings. Do also check. Out the other Neemrana property here called The Gatehouse. If here, also plan a visit to Point Climere Wildlife Sanctuary.
