I had been to Amaaya five years ago. Back then I had left a great review as I really enjoyed the stay. As I liked the place and the neighborhood I decided to stay again and reserved a room more than three month before arrival. Our early arrival time was confirmed as well. On the day of arrival, after a 30 hours journey and being on time, nobody reacted to the doorbell. Calling the owner resulted in a message that the phone was turned off (with my non-Indian SIM this was a costly call). Finally we went up to the apartment and knocked on he door to find the maid who told us that no guests were expected and that the owner was on vacation. Having just arrived in Delhi without accommodation was quite a shock. Fortunately the maid was able to direct us to another place in the area that was actually really nice. I am not a very demanding guest, but this should really never happen. One extra star for the helpful maid.
We had arrived to Delhi at midnight and had a train to Agra from Nizamudin station. This place was very convenient, clean, comfortable. They send someone to pick us up at the airport and make sure we had a good night. Ladies were very kind. We couldn't have breakfast because of lack of time but they gave us coffee and fruits for the trip. Many many thanks
I was referred to Amaaya's guesthouse through a friend ... and after I arrived, I was immediately treated like a welcome guest in a beautiful, upscale home! I was so thankful to find a little oasis of peace in a very chaotic city and Rouma's hospitality made my stay very special. I also found the food aaaaamazing ... I'm not a vegetarian although if I could cook like that, I would consider eating vegetables for the rest of my life. Due to my travel plans, I didn't stay at Amaaya my whole time in India but I was able to use it as a "home base" and even kept some of my luggage there while I traveled to other cities. Rouma was great at calling taxis, arranging for tour guides and generally being a knowledgeable concierge for all my needs. This B&B is in a very nice and safe neighborhood and as a bonus, the taxis knew where it was located. (Trust me, this is a big plus). Overall, I was very happy with my stay and I'll be there the next time I'm in Delhi.
I had been in rural India for a challenging, 3-week long work trip before arriving at Rouma's, where I left, 3 days later feeling peaceful and rejuvenated. I arrived at 11 pm and Rouma was kind enough stay up to greet me. In the morning, Rouma's helper, Sylvia, prepared a delicious breakfast that I enjoyed in the serene living room overlooking trees. Rouma was a kind and gracious host and offered wonderful insider tips of Delhi and its attractions. I enjoyed our chats over chai. The bnb is very centrally located and my room was beautifully decorated with shelves full of great novels. I highly recommend Amaaya and look forward to visiting again!
The taxi pick up arranged for me by Rouma was 2 hours late, although I was assured he was waiting "outside" gate 6, he wasn't, if I had not had an Indian mobile phone to use I would have been stranded. Rouma's fairly strict house rules made it difficult to relax. It was noisy, and uncomfortable. She charges 500 rupees/5 for a bowl of dhal/ lentils and rice, which is a rip off. I was compelled to check out as I couldn't sleep in the provided room. I feel that Amaaya is taking advantage of unbeknown travellers (I've been visiting India for 20 years now) and rinsing them. I moved somewhere far better and cheaper in the same neighbourhood. She's taking advantage, watch out and take care, she's an actress.
