The Colonel's Retreat is not unique, There must be lots of places that; Are Spotlessly clean Have Spacious rooms Have large marble bathrooms Have separate sitting rooms, with comfy armchairs arnd sofas on every floor where you can sit and relax Has a roof top terrace, an oasis Serve delicious breakfasts with plenty of choices Authentic delicious Indian meals of an evening ( why go out after a long day?) And where the owner not just takes a personal interest in his guests but a personal delight in meeting them and it shows . The owner sets high standards and achieves them The pride that everyone has in the Colonels Retreat is evidenced by the enjoyment we had during our two say stay. I wish it had been a week. Yes you might just come across somewhere like this in Delhi but why take the chance? Or you might prefer an international chain type of hotel, that's up to you fair does. But if you want a welcoming friendly place to stay, a bit different but still very good , then choose the Colonel's Retreat you won't regret it

Real retreat and respite experience. Real retreat and respite experience.

After a harried road trip (there seems to be no other kind in India) and good but rougher accommodations to go with our elephant sanctuary volunteer work, finding that our guide had booked us here was truly delightful. The area is quiet, but convenient to central Delhi attractions, the rooms and bathrooms spotless, and the full pots of select coffees (the real thing!) with breakfast most appreciated. Not fond of the citronella candles burning in the room when we arrived...cough, cough, but the owners are pleasant, helpful, and genteel.

Highly recommended Highly recommended

We stayed for 1 night at the Colonel's retreat at the start of our 3 week Indian adventure. What a wonderful introduction to India following our long haul flight. Greeted with banana bread and coffee taken in one of the many cosy sitting rooms dotted around the property. The room was spotlessly clean and with all the facilities you would expect. It was chilly in Delhi during our stay so the room heater was very welcome. Beds were comfortable and environment peaceful and quiet away from the clamour of Delhi The service was attentive and welcoming. The dinner we had on the terrace on our first night in India was probably the best we had during our trip . Fairy lights, good wine , and a fire pit enhanced the experience. We craved the banana bread and home made bread for the rest of our trip If you are looking for 5 star luxury at a generic hotel with international food, spa services etc this isn't the place for you. However if you want an authentic value for money experience with excellent personalised service this is most definitely the place for you. I know which one i prefer! Look forward to returning and would highly recommend

We stayed for 6 days at the end of Jan/Feb and settled in very quickly. The staff are friendly and the owners offered us so much help and hospitality. They are full of information about getting out and around in Delhi and advised us on visits to events and sights that, as tourists, we might not have known about.

What made my stay an unhappy experience. What made my stay an unhappy experience.

Staff is kind but scarce :upon arrival late at night,it took me several minutes to find a staff member to show me to the room. Room was good, bed was comfortable. However,in years of travel,I have never seen this: a tiny, used bar of soap was in the bathroom!!! So this facility recycles soap.....yuk. The next unpleasant experience came at breakfast: Bread close to sandpaper in texture and taste. Fresh fruit: a tiny banana! I went to the Defense Colony market and bought fruit and bread which I had every morning while I was there. Upon departure, I found out that Amex was not accepted for payment. This being a business expense I offered that my local partner settle the bill. When she checked the bill ,she found charges which were not accurate. She presented this to the accounts receivable who argued about the accuracy. For the business traveller, this is an unacceptable place to stay: the per diem rate is astronomical compared to the services provided.

Demo Trip I don't know the price because it was just a small component of our longer tour expenses.
