We arrived in Delhi after dark on one of the foggiest nights of the year. We had no idea where our driver was going, however he managed to get us to our hotel! Entering the City Star we were greeted professionally and escorted to our third floor room. The room was perfect! Large, clean and well equipped. We proceeded to go right to sleep!
The next day, when we ventured out, we were a bit concerned about our neighbourhood! We are walkers... and this hotel is not located in a neighbourhood that we are used to! With a city the size of Delhi, we expected it to be different, but it appeared too rough for our liking!
However, after 24 hours in the city, and the fantastic help from the staff at the hotel, we acclimated and began to love our walks throughout Delhi, even the walk home to our safe haven at the City Star Hotel! We loved our door man as each day when we arrived back to the hotel, he greeted us with such a smile. We think he was glad to see us back safe and sound!
There are a few other highlights for this hotel - BEST COFFEE so far in India, wonderful breakfasts and decent main dishes for dinner. The team at the tour desk were also very professional and very knowledgeable!
Quite a gem of a place in the middle of a very crazy city!
Friendly staff , clean and good value for money . Breakfast buffet but order the freshly made pancake or omelette , they were good , nice coffee too . Area dodgy but we got picked up by our driver daily so not a problem . It's a no brainier if you are on a budget in this crazy city !
Despite the run down exteriors, the hotel really surprised us. We honestly thought the photographs were too good to be true at this price point, but it was exactly as it was pictured; the rooms were phenomenal.
The hotel also responded very quickly to our requests (such as an airport transfer, or having twin beds), and the service in the hotel was really great as well. The Wifi was free and reliable, and we were given enough coupons for all our devices.
We were surprised at the bathrooms not having a division between the bath and the toilet, but somehow it worked out with a subtle division, and the bathroom did not end up flooded after a bath. The hot water was reliable, the bathroom had a hair dryer, and the soap they had was great too.
The staff were amazingly helpful and spoke perfect English. The room service was really quick, and they surprised us with some pretty good free Black Forest cake slices on Christmas day.
However, as nice as the rooms were, the view from the window (which was closed by a curtain) was literally a dump; but there's little they can do about that. Also, we asked for the food to be not spicy, they said they'd prepare the food accordingly but most of the dishes ended up being quite spicy, so be prepared for that. The area outside the hotel seemed a bit dodgy too (and there weren't many great places to eat nearby), but none of these things took away from the hotel experience much; the only real negative experience I had was that their credit card machine wasn't working on the day I checked out, so I had to pay with my Australian Dollars with a less than stellar exchange rate (compared to what my credit card would get).
However, overall, I'd say this was a REALLY good experience overall for the price point, and I'd have no hesitations recommending this place to anyone visiting New Delhi.
The staffs were very kind, helpful and very attentive and I was impressed.
The rooms were also in a good condition and clean enough. Although the bathroom looked kinda old, but it was still acceptable.
The highlight was the roof top restaurant. Love it.
What I didn't quite like was the sale assistance for tours from the hotel.
I visited Delhi in January and I knew it's winter there. What I didn't know was India could be covered with very thick fog. Hence the streets outside the city (I booked Delhi-Agra and Delhi-Jaipur) can be very very dangerous to drive. Still the sale assistance didn't mention anything about this big safety concern. From my perception, he wanted only to sell the tours. After the trip to Agra. I needed to cancel Jaipur and got 70% money back.
Excellent service good professional friendly staff very helpful. Excellent food in the roof top restaurant they actually went out of their way to cook us something outside their restaurant hours as we arrived very late at night . buffet choice for breakfast was good which was mainly Indian food although there was cereal and choice of juices and good coffee. It is also very close to the railway station. very safe inside although would not feel comfortable walking outside at nighttime. however very close to everywhere so good location. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They also offered us a airport pick up as part of their complimentary service
