Excellent hotel in Paharganj Excellent hotel in Paharganj

by Ulf S on February 15, 2017

This hotel is run by a very honest and service minded family. The hotel and the rooms are very clean and nice. Many have balconies with a nice view of the exciting street below. Wifi is excellent and the beds superb (we both suffer from bad backs). Bathrooms with very good hot water 24h. Safety box and very good "ground crew", we have stayed many times and will stay here next time in Delhi! Don't miss THE RESTAURANT! In our view the best in Delhi (far better and safer for stomach than many of the fancier places in Connaught place). In this restaurant we have eaten for 15 yrs without getting the slightest sick!

I wish I had not gone by the reviews here. The Goods: 1. Close to new delhi railway station. A tricycle will take you for INR 40 to the hotel. 2. Walking distance to the nearest metro RK ashram. 3. Easy check in 4. Hot water 24 hrs. 5. Looked safe inside. The Bads. 1. Neighbourhood may scare you. Lot of goons around and the Bar across the street is the source of all the nuisance. Expect a midnight roadside tiff everyday. Didn't find it safe after 11 pm. 2. Rooms need maintenance badly. The walls and floors are stained. 3. Basic rooms only, no supplements at all. For the tariff charged, I at least expected toiletries. 4. Mine was supposed to be a soundproof room and I could hear everyone passing in the corridor. Was wondering if I would even whisper I must be audible outside. 5. The standard room is too small. 6. The main entry closes in the night and there's no door bell, so basically you have to bang the door and only IF the watchman "wakes up" he will take you in, else you may have to sleep with the dog resting right at the doorstep. It was exactly when I realised this isn't a hotel. All in all I didn't find a reason why Is this place ranked so high in the list. Though a special mention about the reception staff Seema, she is extremely humble and an asset to the property.

Comfortable spot in Paharganj Comfortable spot in Paharganj

Metropolis Tourist home is at the better end of hotels in Paharganj. The rooms are very clean and everything works, good quality for the price. The location is good, very close to Rama Krishna Ashram Marg metro station. There's also a great rooftop restaurant, with very tasty food.

We arrived at 6.40am to a dog sleeping on the front steps and a locked door. Maybe not a good start, however, a few raps on the door brought a staff member to let us in. Reasonably prompt check-in, however, we were initially assigned a standard room and not the deluxe room we paid for. Room had a polished concrete floor, safe, TV, refrigerator, Wifi and balcony overlooking the street. Bed was a bit on the short side especially for tall people. Room was very clean and comfortable and represents good value. Street noise was not a problem.

safe and clean but not luxurious safe and clean but not luxurious

It is a hotel in Paharganj. You can't expect much. Metropolis Tourist Home is basic, but ticks all of the important boxes. It is safe with plenty of staff keeping an eye on the place. It is clean. It is right in Paharganj in the midst of hustle and bustle. The windows keep out most of the noise. It is very handy for New Delhi Railway Station. It is minutes from a metro station. The staff are helpful and friendly, even at 2 a.m. for a late arrivee! The food in the rooftop restaurant is good and the beer is cold. The wifi is good. It may cost a bit more than other places in Paharganj, but is worth it. I booked a "luxury" room. It wasn't luxurious, but it suited me well enough.
