At the beginning of December 2016, I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, for an International meeting.
Overall, I was very disappointed. The Wifi was extremely slow (1 Mbps/s) and eight attempts to get IT to improve the speed failed. The free internet provided was totally inadequate and non-functional when the hotel was busy. It is obvious that they are also limiting bandwidth.
The room was small, the bathroom products are poor in quality (though they give many products), and specifically, the conditioner was actually watered down. It was therefore, not usable.
The hotel was very busy and loud, and they had big functions including weddings, all night, every night. On some nights, they had two weddings. Therefore, there was loud music all night and it was hard to sleep. Some of the function rooms are on the same floor as guests rooms. It was not possible to address this issue.
This is supposed to be a five star hotel with a prestigious reputation, in the heart of Delhi's Diplomatic enclave. Indeed, the public areas are opulent, there are many restaurant choices, and the hotel itself is large and famous. However, the service standard is very mediocre, the noise level is high, the internet is poor and therefore, the value for money at this property is poor.
There are certainly many better choices in Delhi, especially at this price point. For large functions and conferences, I would recommend the use of a different hotel as well. The general organization/management is simply not adequate.
The hotel is a very old hotel located centrally. The room was quite dark, poor lighting, the cupboard doors badly scratched and looking run down. In the the dining room, no one is bothered what you eat and even water bottles have to be taken by the individual. Taste of the food average. Probably the hotel prefers foreigners to indian guests. On the whole average experience, never again in Hotel Ashoka
Definitely recommend anyone wanting to stay in a beautiful well spread out posh locality. This hotel is a favorite for many because of its convenient location close to most national embassies. Breakfast spread is good as well.
