We are club Mahindra members & stayed at Club Mahindra Derby Green during March 11-14, 2017. My reviews of the property is as follows:
Great Location: The property although quite & peaceful is pretty close to the commercial street & facing the Derby. The morning view of the Derby was simply suberb. The bus stand & railway station are around 500 mtrs from the resort.
Good Rooms: We were given studio room with a bed, sofa & a tea/coffee maker. The room & bathroom was serviced daily with fresh towels & were provided daily.
Fine service: The restaurant as well as housekeeping staff was prompt, polite & cordial. Out room was serviced by one Jayalaxmi was the job was finely done.
Good & Tasty food: The restaurant served tasty food with good service staff. The services of Arvind, Alam, Chief Chef Thirumurugan & other need mention.
Fun zone & activities: We visited Coonoor & Ooty for sight seeing & were well taken care of by Shri Senthil.
Expensive food: The food (breakfast + dinner) was a little expensive when compared to other 5 star properties. Considering we are club Mahindra members and have already paid large sums for rooms & yearly service, we expect concessions on food bills.
Summary: Good resort to stay on a short holiday.
Located in the town close to the bus stand, situated uphill giving a good view of the town. The lobby is plush and was welcomed with tea and hot towels, the weather being chilly. The person at the front desk was good and accommodated us with 1BHK for two nights on request. Originally, we had a booking for studio for one night and 1BHK for the other courtesy, club mahindra's torturous booking system.
The sales team of club mahindra, promise smooth booking and even go to the extent of saying 'Call me sir, I will get it booked even for tomorrow. We have different ways to book'. And after you buy membership, wont even receive calls. We are at the mercy of the online booking system. Will never get your required dates no matter what season you are in and having paid lakhs of Rupees for the membership.
Coming back to the hotel, it is an old property, formerly dasprakash hotel, good parking area and accomodation consists of hotel units, studio and 1BHK.
Rooms are pretty small, very small infact. They say, as it is a heritage property, cannot renovate. Studio and 1BHK have sofa cum bed. Rooms are clean, bathroom is small but clean and hot water available all the time.
The kitchen has cutlery, oven, coffee maker.
They have a spa and a pretty good children play area. They conduct activities in the evening with bonfire, which is commendable. Gym is a joke.
Food is good, As we had our baby with us, we normally ordered room service. Menu is very limited and very expensive like all club mahindra properties.
We had dinner buffet once and was tasty but expensive as well.
Staff and service was very good.
All in all, good property.
Visited the place in Mar with family for 02 nights.
Drove down from Coimbatore for about 3.5 hours. Hilly region starts after Medupallayam.
Hill drive is scenic and beautiful replete with waterfalls.
Conoor is the biggest town followed by Ooty.
Resort overlooks the Racecourse and hence the name Derby Greens. In fact all rooms, about 60 in number face the race course which is active in Apr month.
Resort is divided in 3 levels; top level having the Fun Zone Area with SPA and some HUs I presume.
Middle level is the restaurant and Reception area along with the Curio and garment shop.
Lower level is the car parking area with balance rooms.
We stayed in a studio, which is cramped for space. Being a heritage property and taken over by Mahindra's about seven years back, it apparently cannot be changed. There are a few studios which are bigger in size but do not face the race course. Do ask for them at Reception, if space is a major concern. Also few studios on first floor offer more privacy and better view.
Mini kitchenette in studios has no separate washing place and the washroom basin has to be used for the same.
Washing room is also small and cramped.
Room has a TV set which is placed at a little offset to the bed location.
No fans or ACs are present since the place generally has lower temperatures throughout the year. Pedestal fan is placed in rooms.
A small gym with one tread mill and a couple of other equipment is present alongside the spa. Spa rates are a little on the expensive side.
Fun zone has a number of activities for kids. Every evening is planned for a theme night or a bonfire, which is interesting.
In room dining has some fantastic combos including the senior citizen options which are reasonable and the quantity too is very good.
Overall property is a bit of a letdown considering other Mahindra resorts. My sincere request to the Management would be to re categorise the Studio into Hotel units; else reviews are not going to convey the correct information.
Buffets for the younger members are good though priced a trifle high.
Housekeeping is responsive and food preparation is good.
Lower number of stars are primarily for room size.
We travelled to Ooty from Bangalore via Gudalur during the last week of Feb, the journey was awesome once u reach Bandipur forest reserve...though we had a lot of trees burnt due to the recent forest fire. the mudumalai forest region was still green and lush... we stopped at pykara lake...but the falls were drought...:(... finally we reached the resort for a very warm welcome.... For the next 4 days we had planned all the usual sightseeing locations Since the resort is in the city and all the sights are not so far and everything easily accessible.... Food, Spa and Room service were very good... Chef Arafat needs a special mention for his efforts to keep us satisfied...!!! On the return Journey we took via Masinagudi for an adventurous 36 Hairpin bends route..!!!
One of the few Club Mahindra resorts that is located in the city centre. The staff is warm, courteous and has a great sense for attention to detail. We travellled with 2 senior citizens and the staff made sure that they were comfortable during the stay. The Engagement activities at Fun Zone are great and my 6 year old son enjoyed being part of them. Watch out for the Dance performance by staff and the Magic Show. The F & B staff is simply great - they provided a wide variety of Food Options coupled with seamless service. The adjoining Garden to the restaurant provides a panoramic view of the City and the Racecourse - Dinner / Breakfast in the Garden is recommended. The resort also conducts sightseeing tours to Ooty and adjoining Coonoor city. These tours are well organised and comprehensive covering major locations in both cities.
