An Oasis An Oasis

Lymond House was delightful! We stayed in one of the newer suites in behind the house. It was spacious and comfortable. The lawn and gardens are beautiful and provide a serene spot amongst the busyness and noise of Ooty - it's hard to believe we were in the city area. All the staff were very kind and helpful; we loved Nahendra who served our meals. The chef was fantastic! We really enjoyed the food here. The rooms are not very soundproof so when we had noisy neighbours, they kept us up until quite late but that was not enough to have made us move. This is a place well worth going to.

Room Reservation - (Not Good) We blocked our holiday via Hotel.com for another location but as that was sold out and the owner of Lymond house was the same so she offered us this location. I am giving one star less in review only because of messy online booking system, they may cancel your booking on last moment. so please confirm with the owner before leaving your place. Reaching there - (Easy to Find) It was pretty clear direction, once you enter the city, this is after Govt museum and next to Hill Bunk Petrol Bunk and yes it is opposite to TAJ SAVOY a well known landmark in Ooty. Rooms - (Great classic architecture with old wooden furniture) Just 3 big size rooms with decent size old washrooms and 2 rooms are next to bungalow which I think are newly built. a big dining area and lobby with lots of old furniture, articles. Family Area - (Good big lawn) A green lush lawn with chairs and pretty flowers, you can enjoy your tea here with family and kids. Food - (Homely, fresh cooked on demand) It was home made, specially prepared based on your demand and priced reasonably. What we loved most - A rare place to stay, English time bungalow with old furniture and that charm, good service and calm environment. What could be improved - There is a room for improvement in terms of service and cleanliness. owner should respect the guests and should be open to listen their suggestions.

Charming Heritage Property Charming Heritage Property

We had a pleasant overnight stay at the Lymond House. We arrived here after a long car drive and we're looking forward to a good meal. It was one of the best meals we have had on our 40 day trip of India. The price was very affordable. Our room was very comfortable and the Wifi was available in the office. The staff was courteous and respectful and the service was good. The house is 165 years old and it provides a charming ambience. We enjoyed an early morning walk around the property and the neighbourhood. The breakfast was very good. We were happy that we stayed here.

We are so pleased we chose Lymond House for our 2-night stay. Situated in a delightful garden in a quiet street, this was the perfect place to soak up the ambiance of times past. The bungalow has been sympathetically maintained in the style of its time with lots of antiques and memorabilia. The current owner's grandfather was an associate of its British owner and bought it when the British shipped out. The vintage car parked in front of the house speaks volumes! The food is delicious although the menu didn't appear to change during our visit and guests should be aware that it is not licensed although you can bring in your own alcohol - if you know where to buy it!! It can get rather chilly at night but they will light a fire in the bedroom or give you a fan heater. Beds were comfortable and it was very quiet - for India! Staff were very helpful and arranged an unforgettable trek for us with a guide from the Toda tribe - one of the highlights of the holiday. Do not stay here expecting the trappings of a modern European hotel but if you want authenticity with a real taste of India Lymond House is the place for you!

Memorable! Memorable!

Wanted to add a quick note on our stay at "Lymond House". The stay was truly memorable and honestly , I was more than happy to indulge for a while in the old world charm (with a pinch of eeriness in a good way) of the surrounding , with its wooden flooring, the fireplace, and a collection of various precious articles from the by gone era. The garden area is well maintained with a beautiful collection of varied flora, just perfect for a fresh morning start with the birds chirping high and fresh air to boost. Also, thanks to Jagadish, the manager, for being so welcoming and sharing several local anecdotes/folktales. On the whole a wonderful get away from our mundane urban life.
