Nahar's Nilgiris Hotel

This hotel is centrally located in Ooty. Rooms are nice and have good interior. It's not just a building. But having it's own private place filled with greenery and lights to walk. There is good space for parking. Also, very good north Indian and south Indian restaurants present in the hotel premises itself. Loved the quality of food and service over there. The auto/taxi stand, tea stalls, medical shop and other restaurants were also close by. Only thing is there was no cleaning at all on the ceilings or windows. So if anyone has allergy to dust or spider webs built over years may face problem. Other than this I would rate this hotel 5/5 due to its all other features.

Good location and good maintenance of the property. Very British and ancient Royal Family style. They cheated me by giving me a low grade room claiming that it is a high grade mini suite. I later found out that the room was 3500/- category but they charged me higher. I also recall that the receipt they made was Rs. 1000/- plus tax while I was not careful about this cheating, and they charged me 6000/- per night. I stayed only one night and moved on to a different Hotel the next day. The food was super-expensive as per the portions served. We had to order double the usual quantity between 2 people. One portion was NOT enough even for one person. Yes, I got a discount of 10% on food being a customer of the hotel rooms. Are the main hotel authorities aware of these practices or are they supporting such practices in their premises I wonder.

We liked the decor from the beginning so we asked to show us the "suites only", price or no. of pax was irrelevant. The reception staff said something to the attendant and he took us around the property showing us 2 and 3 bedded rooms only. Said that all rooms in this building are suites only. They were mostly 10 x 20 rooms. Only one room had 2 separate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms away from the main building with no view or balcony. What kind of suites were these? We took the best one and they said that it's real cost is 7k with taxes but they will give us the off season discount for 4k. We didn't really care because we were all very tired due to driving on the bike. Later when we realised the goof-up, we asked the attendant. He then disclosed that this main building doesn't have suites, and he showed us double bedroom only because we were a couple and a small child but he also told us that he was getting us a discount, all rooms had bathtub and a sitting area. We got confused because other hotels were offering none. This was absolute cheating a customer. Giving a 2-3 bedded rooms claiming them to be suites. Unacceptable behaviour. The reception is highly full with attitude and no respect for a customer. They have no smile, no welcoming attitude, reply only to what being asked. They love to refuse a customer outright. Very unprofessional. Food rates 4-5 times higher than the best restaurant in the market and giving 10% discount for hotel staying customers only. How cheap.

In the centre of the commercial road and sufficient parking: highly suitable for one day stay in Ooty so that shopping in the entire town becomes easy. There are two good in-house restaurants but most restaurants in the town also easily accessible. Rooms are spread around at multiple locations and there's no open space other than a large parking area to walk around.

I stayed here for 2 days and came to Ooty for work & had a pleasant time, The ambience was great, location is best for most things to be readily accessible, Food was good at the side way restaurant.. overall experience was good
