The stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing, definitely not up to Taj standards and our expectations. Aesthetics - The exterior of this heritage property is in total disrepair..paint peeling falling off etc Rooms - these were just okay ..clean but musty wood smell Staff - courteous friendly and helpful within constraints of property Food - okay. pub not operational.lounge very basic Activities - very little to do during the day...and there is not much activity in Ooty so one looks forward to the acivities at hotel. The game room not clean and ill equipped basically only carrom or table tennis. There is billiards in separate room but on chargeable basis

We would very happily return to the Savoy, it was wonderful. Staff were helpful with excellent service without being over the top and the historical feeling of the hotel has been capitalised on without turning it into a theme park. We stayed here new years day having travelled up on the hill railway and were warmly welcomed although the staff must have been shattered after a late night the night before, as the structure in the garden paid testament to. We had one of the bungalows and our huge bed and thoroughly modern bathroom still maintained the touch of history. A year ago we stayed in Burgh Island and that is closest I can liken it to. Wood fires in the bedroom are included in the price, just ask, with a generous dash of firefighter fluid you will find your room cosy in no time, and it really is chilly, we wok up to frost on the lawn! We had a lovely dinner, included in our stay, an excellent buffet, although probably the spiciest food we had the whole time in India. Pianist played as we ate our sambar and rice, which was a strange anachronism and gave an insight into how the British made their new home fit their old one. Excellent buffet breakfast. We intend to visit Ooty again, for a longer stay, largely because the hotel was so great.

My family and I stayed recently at the Savoy hotel for two nights as a family of five. The hotel was one of the best we have ever stayed in. Unlike the big city hotels, the taj savoy is surrounded by natural wonders, and is small and cosy enough good to remember everyone's name. The staff were helpful and had great service. At night, the staff would set up the fire and bring us hot water bottles for night. The food had a large variety of origin, and the head chef would often come up to our table and ask us how our meal was. The hotel had a play equipment set, which the children enjoyed immensely. They had a bonfire at night with games and prizes. The hotel is kid friendly, with many activities such as bike riding to horse riding. Special mention to executive chef Mr Nisi, who went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy during our stay. He was very passionate about making food from other countries, and each meal was delightful. The hotel was a very enjoyable stay, and we would reccomend it.

Fantastic resort for family holiday Fantastic resort for family holiday

We (a group of six adults and four kids including a baby) just spent four wonderful days at this place. This heritage property deserves better mention both for its wonderful facilities and excellent service by the staff. Every little need of ours was taken care of with alacrity. The room was in great shape and the fireplace (night temperature of 2 deg C) lent a romantic touch with firewood being ceremoniously lit at dusk. The breakfast fare was lavish with local live items like ragi dosa. The chef used to find out from us if there was anything in particular that we would like served. What made the dining experience most enjoyable was the service of Mr. Murphy, apparently a veteran at Savoy. He was there, not only to attend to every one of our wishes, but also to train the younger staff to follow his style of service. Most of our dinners were served in the room and the service was very prompt and done with a smile. Kids had plenty of activities, including feeding rabbits and a pony ride. We left the place very reluctantly, resolving to come again in summer when the life in Ooty and environs will be more alive. Thank you, Taj Savoy for a great holiday for the family!

Heavenly Stay Heavenly Stay

The best place in South India for a comfortable holiday stay. The staff is excellent, and understands your needs and requirements before you even ask. The Front Office is ever efficient and the Dining experience is great with each meal. The hotel is more of a resort and the ambience sets you back in the good old British era. Wonderful!
