We were off to our first visit to Tiger Hills, Ooty. We were running a bit late to check in but I was proactive enough to inform the property manager regarding the same and while we checked in, they were well aware of the same and made things really easy during the check-in process. Sanjay (the Property Manager) was warm and highly courteous. He welcomed our Family of 6 and served us some hot ginger tea as a welcome drink. We couldnt have asked for anything better especially when the mercury had dropped to 12 degrees in the evening. We were well seated at the garden area on those classic patio furnished, enjoying the view of the nilgiri mountain ranges. Beautiful is the word to describe the backdrop from this place. Since we came from Mumbai, its been ages since we saw clear blue sky and the view gives us that in abundance.
Coming to the history of this property, its a 100+ year old historic British house converted into a resort with a Sherlock Holmes theme in places. We first checked into the standard rooms and later we got an upgrade since the property was hardly occupied during our stay. Considering the fact that we had an infant (my super playful 15 month old) with us, Sanjay was kind enough to give us a bigger room. Cant thank him enough for this kind gesture. The rooms were super clean and the view of the nilgiri mountain ranges from the room is priceless. The property is well kept but might need some improvement in the near future especially the flooring and the linens. Each room has a fireplace and it helped us to keep ourselves warm when the temperature dipped to as low as 8 degrees. We would have also preferred an old based electric heater in our room but we never got them. Each room has a television with a cable connection but we never cared to watch them. Ooty is not a place to get stuck with the idiot box. We would only turn it on for our infant when he would insist us to play Baby TV. With a triple occupancy room, you get a foldable bed and a mattress. Good enough for an adult. You get the towels and the necessary toiletries as well. Considering it could get really cold in Ooty, the blankets could be better. Also, they could add a few charging points. Nothing else to complain or mention here when it comes to the rooms.
Talking about the restaurant, we could not find a better place to have lunch or dinner in ooty than Sherlock. We did try a few options in the town but we found Sherlock to be better. The staff was highly proactive and we could hardly complain about the at tentativeness and the service quality. Special thanks to the Chef, Emma and Kapil. They took good care of us. They took good care of my little bud as well by helping us with good quality infant food. Lets talk a bit about the food, the breakfast spread had a good mix of english and Indian options. Bread (both Brown and White), Jam, Butter, French Toast, Sauteed Corn, Cut Fruits, Variety of Omlette, Boiled Eggs, Fruit Juices, Milk, Tea, Coffee, Oats, Corn Flakes (regular and chocolate coated ones), Chicken Sausages, Dosas- Idlis with Chutney and Sambhar, Paratha (Panner and Aloo), Upma, Poha. Guess I covered everything from the breakfast menu. The average cost for 2 while we had our lunch and dinner was nothing less than 1500 Rs. The cost was average but the quality was good. We tried everything, right from Indian to Chinese (call it Indo Chinese).
Now my favorite part, the Garden and Patio area. Its been well maintained and is full of flowers. The grass bed is well maintained and my son loved to play in the garden. There is no better place than the garden to enjoy some hot tea and coffee. The view of the sunrise and sunset is worth a million dollar from the garden. If you are a photographing enthusiast, then its the best place to be.
The resort of arranged for a day trip to ooty at a cost of 2200/- INR which was inclusive of parking charges. The driver was highly professional and was well aware of the locations.
Special thanks to Sanjay and his team. You guys took good care of us during our 4 day stay at the Sherlock. Keep up the good work. We will be back for sure !! Cheers.!
This is a very blessed property with a lovely valley view and old British bungalow rooms. But the only drawback is the drive to this property with bad roads and steep uphill rides, it gets quite difficult (especially at night).
But once you reach there, it is very peaceful. The rooms are cozy with their own fireplace and the staff are very courteous. Food is also good but service takes time.
There are not many activities to keep you engaged but you can walk through the garden and have a nice cup of coffee and idle away your time.
We had a very good stay in Sherlock. The property is 130 years old and is beautiful with a very well maintained garden as well as nice common areas. The common areas have fireplace in the corner and we thoroughly enjoyed spending almost all our evenings sitting besides the fireplace. The restaurant has decent spread of food and specializes in Chinese and Continental food. But what really stands out for Sherlock is it's staff. The service is amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay due to the very polite and helpful staff. The staff very willing to accommodate any special requests and gave very good suggestions about places to visit, eat out, shop, etcetera. I would thank Sanjay, Marshall, Asha, Emma, and all other staff for making our trip a memorable one. We hope to comeback soon.
Sherlock is nicely located on tiger hill just before Ooty city....place is very relaxed and laid back. View is pretty good as well. Service of the hotel was amazing and food in the restaurant was good.
Only reason for not giving a full five is because the hotel has a upper and lower property, although lower property provides good view but the ambience of the lower property is no match to upper.
We stayed in Sherlock in the 2nd week of May 2018. Front office Staff Sanjay and Shabnam were courteous. There is small garden in front of rooms. Nice area to sit and have Tee. Restaurant Alder food was good. Staff accompanied my son in playing cricket.hotel is 3km drive from Ooty Charring cross towards Coonoor. We have to take road going towards left after 400mts gtom Charring cross.Last 100 mts room is country road. Thier booking is hanlded by central office which caters their other properties. I feel they should respond fast for queries. I had been thier other property in Ooty and restaurant is very good there. Overall it is good stay.
