The hotel is located a kilometer before you reach Orchha. Spreader over on the bank of Betwa river, which was once the lifeline of Bundelkhand region. They tried to make it in heritage architecture. To be very honest it doesnt appear much attractive. The red coloured building looks good from outside, but from inside it feels junky. The surface of the rooms are not smooth. The washrooms are big. The rooms have balconies which are river facing, but those are little far from river. You can view the river clearly. You can walk to the river and spend leisure time there. The balconies are covered by iron gates and after that, a small proper balcony comes. I have no idea why they didnt make it opposite !!
Lawns are nice. The swimming pool is small. During our stay it was monsoon and looked like it didnt get clean for couple of days. So, after couple of requests they cleaned the pool.
Restaurant is good, but the food is same, nothing so special.
Room service and In-restaurant service are bit slow.
We did a late check-out at 3 PM. and they have shifted us to another room for last 2 hours. We thanked them for this gesture.
Overall, with their ample opportunities they could provide better experience to their guests.
Nothing like a resort. What you get is filthy rooms, inexperienced staff, slow service, and pathetic food. The rooms are dirty, have no telephone, television, or room service.
The breakfast was minimalistic with only toast and fruits in buffet. Rest was on order which if you are lucky you would get within an hour. Lunch buffet was not even worth a third of what they charge. Food was stale and tasteless with limited variety.
The staff are untrained and you need patience to deal with them.
Also, they overcharge you on booking transportation via the reception desk.
It was a forgetful experience!
We only stopped here for lunch. Put on good cheap buffet, 350IR plus drinks in beautifully decorated dining room. Hotel has lovely grounds to walk around with stunning river views. Didn't see inside bedrooms but reception had great history & stories. It is a historic heritage property but Downside is that it needs major capital Investment to make me want to stay here.
After the sun goes down this whole place turned into a freezer. I ended up sleeping almost fully clothed with a tiny one bar electric heater doing its best to main't ain the temperature slightly above freezing point. The dining room was not heated either making dinner rather uncomfortable. The only wifi available is in receptio, where they keep all of the large doors wide open, always, ma king sure that the inside temperature is the same as outside.
Having said all that I still rather enjoyed my stay, the riverside view from my room was ever so pleasant, the dinner was great, although breakfast was a bit badic. The gardens in the courtyard are very well designed and maintained, and the staff were helpful and courteous, although I they could do something to improve on their appearance.
The live music before dinner was a pleasant surprise even if I had to leave after 20 minutes just before frostbite set in.
My only real issue was when I awoke during the night, and put on my slippers to go to the bathroom, to avoid walking on the old floor. There was a rather upset mouse sleeping in the toe of my slipper who got a rude awakening, as did I. Reception commented that this is a country hotel, which is true, but I did have a problem getting back to sleep, imagining where the rodent ws hiding.
I am sure that apart from winter time this must be an exceptional place to stay.
Unfortunately we had to check out of this hotel despite having made full payment. The rooms and bathrooms were not well maintained and were run down. They are in dire need of renovation. The restaurant too had filthy linen and chipped crockery.
The staff did their utmost to please us but the manager did not even have the courtesy to meet us and address our grievances. The hotel is at a very nice location and can easily be brought up to a reasonable standard.
