spectacular hotel in historical setting, however needs better maintenance spectacular hotel in historical setting, however needs better maintenance

The location of Sheesh Mahal is hard to top: luxurious suites of enormous size (Maharaja and Maharani) and equipped with original furniture, bathrooms with XXL-marble tub plus the famed "loo with a view". The Sound and Light show can be watched straight from the window of Maharani Suite since its facade is part of the "stage" during the performance. Sadly, the rooms clearly lack cleanliness and proper maintenance: bedsheets were ok, but especially the floors and towels were not really clean (dust, hair, and not just a few of them) and the cardboard coasters at the coffee-making facility looked like they haven't been changed for months. Despite these shortcomings which are all easy to improve, I give 4 points for the extraordinary location and surrounding.

This hotel offers palace accommodation on a budget. The rooms are full of antiques and have great character. They are comfortable and well equipped. The restaurant is good, particularly the parathas for breakfast. Wi-Fi signal not strong in the rooms, but ok at reception

Great Service in a Classy Hotel Great Service in a Classy Hotel

We decided to peek into this hotel restaurant while on a tour of the fort adjacent to it. It looked really expensive and quite classy. After looking at the menu we decided to have a quick drink and return later for dinner. The prices were actually quite reasonable and service , for drinks, was fast and the waiter was very courteous. After chatting with him he asked if we wanted to see the hotels suites...Yes we did ! The rooms were really lovely , large and well appointed ! The prices ,for the enormous room was quite reasonable. Off we went back to the hotel we were staying at...and we returned later that evening for dinner. Service wasn't quite as good but the staff was friendly and courteous. The food was really tasty and as it was " Happy Hour "...drinks were 20% off !Dinner ran around 1350 rupees per couple for drinks and eats .

Just 1-2 waiters. They take long time to come, take orders and serve. Quite a few flies. They need to keep a pest machine. I ordered butter nan and boneless kadhai chicken ..when they served it was with bones!..when i pointe dout they said they could get me another plate but i asked them to quickly replace with maharani dal (in reality dal makahani was tasted good). Reason being that while it was with bones, I had a spoonful on my plate and it did not taste good. So i got out of it. but prices are reasonable. Any Indian restaurant - where they serve both Chinese and Indian food - give onions, and acchar the moment you order Indian food. Here they did not. Here we had to ask for it and they wanted to convert it to Onion salad. When even our adjoining table said that onions and achar are a given that they served both tables..atleast they did not charge us

Sheesh Mahal. Small portion of Jahangir palace converted into Hotel. Real Royal stay if you prefer to stay in Maharaja or Maharani Suit. Standard rooms are also good enough. Among all the standard rooms try taking room no. 6. I advise all fellow travellers to make sure you do not take Room No. 3. This is adjacent to Restaurant public restroom (Toilet). Hotel staff are very Courteous. Never expected this from Govt Hotels and resorts. Rooms are well maintained. Had complimentary break fast but limited to paratha and puri bhaji with tea and bread butter toast and omlet for foreigners. Over all a very good place to spend a night or two.
