Worst hotel in front of the park entry. Unfortunately we booked this hotel through their central reservation after several difficulties on email contacts (that should have been an early signal for us :-=) !!). Price/quality was very low. On their web site the resort looked beautiful and nice but it was not mentioned that the hotel/area have been recently damaged by a flood of the river i.e. walls are cracked (we dont believe it is unsafe), glasses are broken (reception), garden is untidy. The staff service and english language knowledge was well below the average for the image they showed as an advertising on their website. Bed sheets were not clean when we arrived but they changed them at our request. No hot water was available all the time during our stay (2 days) so no shower since it was winter!!. Food was less than average. Restaurant was cold/windy during winter time (every thing was open-air). They did not prepare breakfast packs when we left early in the morning (even if we asked them while we never argued for the poor and bad surprise of our stay) . The location looks nice but be aware that the resort needs serious renovations to host adequately tourists that want to visit Panna Park (in front of the resort entry).

I have just returned from a trip to India, which was fabulous except for the last part of the trip, which has left a bad taste in my mouth. My friend and I had booked our last three nights at Jewel of the Jungle in Panna, hoping for some wildlife viewing amid peaceful surroundings (as falsely shown on the hotel's website). When we arrived, the place was in a completely ramshackle condition. The garden, if you call it that, had been left to nature, the swimming pool had no water and looked like it hadn't been used in years. Funnily enough we arrived on Friday the 13th and were allocated hut No. 13 - a portent of things to come. Torrential rain started as soon as we arrived and our hut had water running down the walls inside. We were told there was no hot water since they relied on solar heating. The hut was miles away from the main building down an overgrown path with little lighting (that was fun, trying to get back at night!). When we went up to order dinner, we were told there was no a la carte menu but instead we would have to wait until 8.30 and partake of the buffet that had been laid on for a group of Indians who were staying there. And they wanted to charge us something like 750 rupees each for the pleasure! We decided to check out the next day as the service was so bad. The worst part of the ordeal was that I had paid for 3 nights upfront through an internet booking, at over Rs 3000 per night - and the manager refused to consider a refund. In case anyone is thinking of visiting Panna, then please note that there is a newly opened MP Tourism hotel right across the road - we wandered over to take a look and the staff were lovely and helpful - there is an a la carte menu and the accommodation is "tented" among lovely grounds. And it is much cheaper than Jewel of the Jungle.

Terrible experience with this property. before we leave we got a bad review from someone, but still we hope that everything will be alright. the property does not have any basic infrastructure be it a proper reception, restaurant, menu , kitchen, rooms,room service, food, beds, lights, water, plubming, ac, exhaust, interior decoration etc etc. we all were fortunate that we did not have any food poisoning. although the owner knows that he lacks basics infrastructure, he still take bookings and making people's life hell... My humple suggestion is Dont ever try this property....

The website attracted us to the Jewel of the Jungle, believing it to be a more peaceful place to stay than Khajuraho. It was described as "One of the few places in the world where you can experience the wilderness in style!" It all seemed so pleasant and civilised. Then we arrived. The scruffy area around the steps leading to reception was a foretaste of what was to come. We were pleasantly greeted and shown to our accomodation for two nights. We walked past uncut grass (more a meadow than a lawn) and an empty swimming pool before arriving at a rustic hut - too rustic for our taste. Dark and dingy, with haphazard electrics and we asked to be shown one of the more modern cottages. Number one, the Tiger Room, was hurriedly cleaned and made up, the electrician fixing some defunct lights but unable to make the air-con operable - a major drawback in this climate. We decided to try it for one night and to move on to Khajuraho the following day. We asked about dinner. No a la carte, we finally settled for an omelette which was prepared by a chef from the village (no resident chef) and a Pepsi - nothing else to drink. Before we went back to the Tiger Room we placed our order for breakfast. Having realised the culinary limitations we ordered cereal and toast. Upon arriving for breakfast we were told "No cereal". We left soon afterwards, but not before we had noticed alarming cracks in the walls and a tarpaulin covering leaks in the restaurant. Apparently the nearby river had flooded two or three years ago and the place has not been repaired, yet Head Office in Delhi is still taking bookings on the description on the website. Disgraceful. The staff on site did all that they could but it appeared that they had not been paid for some time and were very aplogetic about the situation.

I was looking forward to staying at the Jewel of the Jungle outside the gate of the Panna N.P. as the start to three days in the area of Panna and Khajuraho. Unfortunately, the Jewel of the Jungle did not appear to be in operation when we arrived, the third week of October, although we had been booked there, and were told that the hotel had been open for the season since Oct.1. The grounds had been left to go to weeds and the hotel did not appear to actually be operational. We stayed on the grounds for barely an hour before deciding to book alternate accommodation in Khajuraho, despite our desire to visit the park, and the proximity of the Jewel to the park. There was no one in the reception area when we arrived, and when we were taken to our room, no electricity or water available. When I asked to be able to use the rest room in the reception area, there was no possibility, as there was no water. The dining room, contrary to the website's photos, was not set up--no table settings, and the kitchen appeared not to have been used for some time. Rather than water, there was dirt in the pool. There was no pond as suggested by the photos on the website. Despite its locstion, the Jewel of the Jungle is not at this time (Oct 2009) in a state to be considered proper accommodation. This is unfortunate, as it has the potential to be so much more than it is. Guests should not have to request power and water, and if lunch is part of the plan, there should be some provision for dining. It is a real shame, and was a disappointment to us to not be able to stay in what "appeared on the website" to be a perfect parkside hotel.
