Gorgeous view facing the mighty Kanchenjunga. A sight to see when you get up in the morning. Fabulous hotel, but the rooms need to be re done. Out of the three nights we could not bathe for 2 as there was no hot water. The lock to the door was barely functional and in general the room needed to be fixed. The breakfast and dinner were great. The staff excellent, but we need hot water to shower???
Really great property with best location in pelling. Main theme of Elgin group is royal hospitality, every staff specially manager is very much helpful.
One experience to share....My flight was in early morning and in Sikkim due to hilly area u seldom get good quality food. Inspite of resorts usual breakfast time 8 am they offered us breakfast early at 6 am ... really the best .
I visited The Elgin Mount Pandim back in September with my parents to celebrate my mother's birthday and I have to say our expectations were far surpassed. We decided to start our trip in Darjeeling and then to Pelling and finally ending our trip in Gangtok. So we were looking forward to a break from the cities which Mount Pandim offered.
The Elgin Mount Pandim is heritage hotel which (if I am not mistaken) was once the summer home to the Sikkimese royalty (which after visiting we can see why), The views are absolutely breathtaking especially if you go for a room on the top floors which overlooks the beautifully maintained gardens and Kanchendzonga.
The hotel itself was stunning even though it was slightly dated (especially some of the rooms which need renovating and a few upgrades). However, what really made the stay special was the outstanding service. In all the countries and hotels I have travelled to I have never encountered such warmth and level of hospitality I received at this hotel. The Elgin has really grasped the concept of hospitality and have definitely done a great job of hiring their staff. The staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, especially the head Chef (unfortunately we forgot his name!).
If I have to give scores to the property I would say:
Hospitality and Service 5/5 (I would have given more if possible)
To conclude, the hotel is dated so don't expect something modern or chic, there are improvements in terms of the property. Also keep in mind that Pelling is quite a small and secluded place so a lot of facilities and food items you find in cities may not be available but that is to be expected when visiting rural places in the mountain. As it is a rural place it is quiet and but it is good for short stays to relax. However, the food is great, the views are unmatched, the people and their north eastern hospitality are truly one of a kind (shout out to everyone, especially the Chef, the Receptionists, the head of staff, and everyone who made our stay special). If you plan to visit the North East don't think twice and go book your stay at Mt Pandim!
Thanks to the team at Mount Pandim for making our stay amazing, hopefully we will be seeing you soon!
Elgin hotel Pelling is a jewel located close to the famous Pemayangtse monastery. The views are stunning, and we were treated to superb sunrise views on the Kanchenjunga range. Service is warm and friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. Nikki the beautiful Samoyed is the friendliest dog around..All in all we had a wonderful stay .
Stayed at the Elgin in the last week of Dec 2016, with my extended family. The stay was extremely pleasant and the entire family enjoyed the warm hospitality.... we cannot stop raving about the experience so will try to make this as objective as possible
Things that worked:
1. Very cozy and comfortable stay, very warm and welcoming staff
2. Far away from the din of city life, very relaxing
3. Plenty of things to do - read a book, sit and enjoy the day/evening with a cup of piping hot tea or a drink at the bar/sit out, play a round of pool/carom or just stroll in the midst of lush greens (in cool and crisp mountain air)
4. Breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga and the Himalayan range
5. Good food and extremely courteous staff
5. 'Mickey' the house pet.... is a huge, burly dog but the most adorable, playful and friendly one you can ever meet. All kids (and most elders) staying at the hotel could be found inside/around Mickey's play pen, many a times during the day
What did not work:
1. Only one 'tourist' attraction (Monastery) at walking distance, so need to hire a cab to go around if you wish to explore the place.
Overall, the 3 day stay at Elgin was the highlight of our trip to the NE, the place thoroughly deserves the top ranking and I would definitely recommend it should you plan to visit Pelling at any time.
