Stayed at the Elgin in the last week of Dec 2016, with my extended family. The stay was extremely pleasant and the entire family enjoyed the warm hospitality.... we cannot stop raving about the experience so will try to make this as objective as possible Things that worked: 1. Very cozy and comfortable stay, very warm and welcoming staff 2. Far away from the din of city life, very relaxing 3. Plenty of things to do - read a book, sit and enjoy the day/evening with a cup of piping hot tea or a drink at the bar/sit out, play a round of pool/carom or just stroll in the midst of lush greens (in cool and crisp mountain air) 4. Breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga and the Himalayan range 5. Good food and extremely courteous staff 5. 'Mickey' the house pet.... is a huge, burly dog but the most adorable, playful and friendly one you can ever meet. All kids (and most elders) staying at the hotel could be found inside/around Mickey's play pen, many a times during the day What did not work: 1. Only one 'tourist' attraction (Monastery) at walking distance, so need to hire a cab to go around if you wish to explore the place. Overall, the 3 day stay at Elgin was the highlight of our trip to the NE, the place thoroughly deserves the top ranking and I would definitely recommend it should you plan to visit Pelling at any time.
My wife and I visited Pelling for the first time andThankGod for Mount Pandim, this tour will be etched onto our memories forever. First I need to mention we went to Pelling from Bagdogra Airport and it took us almost 6.5hours.The roads are hilly steep curvy roads but the worst part is it looks like it hasnt been repaired for a very long time. We went in a Xylo, so thankfully we experienced much less bumps than small cars like Alto or Santro. The painful 6hours ride turned into heavenly experience once we reached Elgin Pandolim in the evening. Although night was dark and utterly cold, the warmth inside once we stepped in, the old colonial look of the furnitures and fireplace and overall interiors together with the extra efforts from the staff to make us feel at peace after a rough ride was more than overwhelming . The dinner was fingerlicking and the extra couteous polite staff kept offering us some or the other food, or soup or darjeeling tea. Our room had an equal vintage look and the view from the room's window early next morning was more than breath-taking ! Kanchenjunga, clearly standing tall without clouds... a sight for which people rush in queues to Tiger Hill,Darjeeling! Here we were leisurely looking at it from our window. The property as a whole is just too scenic. There are small tables and sitting chairs arranged outside the hotel builing for people to sit and sip onto their tea/coffee while observing the serenity of the surrounding nature! we stayed there for two nights and three days out if which one day was spent in travelling from Airport to Pelling and there is nothing I can absolutely complain about in the stay during that period. Mr Basudev,an old employee, and The Managers , are persons who we must mention for their extra couteous efforts in making every guest feel comfortable there. Infact every person working with Pandim will keep smiling and and greeting you like great hotel staff and make the stay extra special together with the ambience, mountain view and yummy food. Hot water supply and heaters which are much needed at such heights are also managed equally well! We talked to other families enjoying their vacations too and we were thrilled to know such is Mount Pandim's attraction as a great leisurely vacation away from home that , people do visit there almost twice a year! Yes these guys almost nullified any regret we had regarding the road from bagdogra to the hotel by their efforts! That is what we call as an overall fantastic hotel and we assure noone will complain being there once!
I stayed for two nights and it was an amazing stay at Elgin property. View from room was excellent and food was very good. It has nice overlook to mountains. Staff was very courteous and friendly. Great hotel for family.
This is the place you can get best view of Mt. Kanchenjunga while still in comfort of all amenities. Try and get any of the rooms from 201-205 to get direct view of this stunning range. It is also walking distance from Pemayangste Monastery. The location of this hotel is just unique. The set up of this hotel is very much like Elgin-Norkhill in Gangtok - contemporary and grand. Food is excellent with wide choice of items but mainly Indian. You could ask for your preferred dish and they will make for you. Get hot cup of tea with pakoras in the verandah overlooking mountain range or sit in the open and soak in the ambience. It cannot get better than this!
Its my honor to drop down some few words about this hotel. This hotel is is situated in hill top near pemayangtse monastry and about 2 km away from pelling, especially for bird watchers this hotel is good enough to take picture of birds there is no need to go to dense forest to take picture of birds and no words to explain about rooms superb superb superb.
