It was my honeymoon trip and stayed in "Summit Newa Regency" for 2 nights (check-in date 24th Jan,2017,Check-out date 26th Jan,2017). My initial experience when we checked-in in the night was not pleasant enough.
The service in the night was not at all good. They did not provide drinking water even after calling and requesting 3 times the night. There was issue with the geyser but no service were provided. The person in the reception picked up the call each time and said he will provide drinking water quickly and send somebody to look-into the geyser issue. But nobody helped us. Neither we received the drinking water nor the issue with the geyser was resolved in the night.
We also had unpleasant experience when we checked in.It was around 9:30-10:00 PM when we entered the hotel since we had some problem with our vehicle while travelling to Pelling from Ravangla. We informed the hotels couple of time regarding our late check-in and the problem that we were facing during the journey. We requested the hotel to keep our rooms and dinner prepared. But after arriving the hotel we came to know that the dinner is not prepared and there is no driver's room available. There was no welcome tea or drink provided. The person who was driving our car was great cordial, helpful person and was very tired due to hectic driving and shivering in cold. We asked the person in the reception to provide him room to sleep but the guy at reception denied for the same and asked us to book another room for the driver. After multiple requests finally he agreed to provide a room with small rent.
There are more focus required for maintenance and we observed the reception area is not good enough. Even the certificates framed and hanged in the reception wall was not aligned properly.
The staff and services in the morning/daytime was really nice and prompt.
AREA OF IMPROVEMENT:
1. Quality of services during night.
2. Maintenance required for the wall.
3. Exhaust fan required in the washroom
GOOD POINTS TO BE MENTIONED:
1. Quality of food provided and choice of having lunch and dinner served in room.
2. Location and view from rooms balcony was amazing.
3. Hygiene and decor.
It was a terrible experience..Room was smelly....The property is very old and need renovation...It's better not to go there and spoil your holiday.....Though food was good, but the condition of rooms are very bad.
Heard a lot about Summit hotels but this one doesn't belong to one of them. We checked in around 7 pm we were taken to the room, I have asked for room heater as I could not see and we were shivering, we had a 2 yr old kid with us. A lady at the reception told that they will provide it. After an hour again I have called for room heater they said it will be sent immediately after 15 min they have sent 2 hot packs which were useless at that chilling temperatures. I immediately went to reception to request again, the lady politely saying they don't have heaters as they are under some maintenance and she was suggesting me to use the kettle, I got shocked by hearing that and thought of leaving the hotel immediately. She again requested me to wait for some time to sort out the maintenance issue with the room heater. At about 9 pm we have got the room heater after which my baby began to become comfortable. Even the restaurant was pathetic the biryani we got was half cooked. Next morning even for breakfast they make people wait for the buffet, it's horrible. Next day for dinner we had a better food opposite to the hotel. "
It was a great trip and unforgettable experience to be in Pelling during last week of September this year. We were 6 adults and two children. We started our journey from NJP to Pelling on 25th of Sep by Innova 7 seater. The journey was really very nice and scenic beauty was awesome. We do breakfast at Meli during journey to Pelling. After a 7 hours of driving we reach our hotel the Summit Newa Regency. Awesome reception. Room was really really great. We got view rooms and from the room we can have Kanchendzonga view. It was a marvelous experience. Breakfast at Summit was far better than expectation in one word it was just awesome. Next day we do sigh seeing - Rimbi Falls, Kanchendzonga Falls, Shingsore bridge, Rabdantse Ruins , Khecheopolri Lake, bartang Falls...many more, awesome view..street side hotels are also very nice, we ate there local food it was also really awesome. We left Pelling on 27th and started our journey to Darjeeling.
We stayed here for a couple of days during our visit in November. Not worth the price tag in a location like Pelling.
1. Room Quality: We stayed in Room No 203, spacious family room with 2 queen beds. Woodwork needs to be revamped, it's damaged in many places giving a dilapidated look.
2. View from Room: This room was a partial side view room, offering partial view of the snow peak from the balcony. They have 2 front view rooms on each floor. There's a large balcony on every floor offering great views. Most if not all, of the hotels in Pelling offers great views, so that should not be a deciding factor.
3. Location: It's in lower Pelling, in the middle of a market area. So, don't expect serenity here.
4. Check In: Reception staff definitely needs improvement. We had a tiring long journey on the very bad road and reached around 7:00 PM and we were not welcomed! I was asked to wait for the check in formalities as they were busy with another couple doing the check in. I could not understand why both of them were busy with one check in.
However, I requested them to show the room to rest of us while I wait and then they handed us the room key and said that she would return my I-Card after taking a photocopy.
Next day while we were returning after our sight seeing tour, we found them welcoming a group of foreigners in traditional way with a scarf and welcome drink which reminded me that I read in all reviews that they welcome the guests in this way. When I asked them why didn't we get a welcome, I got a very vague response that they were running out of the scarf as this was a remote place. Well, they were definitely running out of Tea which they served as welcome drink.
Check Out: Check out was smooth, they didn't have card swipe machines but was ready to accept online transfer into the manager's account and also accepted old 500/1000 notes.
Housekeeping: It was a mixed experience, they were prompt on day 1 by providing the room heater and extra blanket promptly. But on the next day, we didn't get the towels or cups we had asked for.
We had booked a family room clearly mentioning 4 adults and 1 infant, they should have provided toiletries and towels for 4 but they didn't. We had to ask for towels and soaps.
Accessibility: I booked this hotel thinking that such a pricey place will think of elders and people with mobility issues but it was not. They do not have lifts or ramps. You have to climb stairs to your room.
Food: Breakfast was complementary, a limited spread though. I've seen much better spread even in much lesser priced hotels. I understand it's remote place but when I pay a premium price, I definitely expect premium service which was not there. They were not even able to serve a plate of idly for my kid even though it was in their menu options.
Food quality was average.
