Who travels to Nagpur in peak of Summer?!? Was the question all asked when I planned this vacation and put me in self doubt. But I along with my family were more than pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received on arrival and thereafter till we checked out. Awesome team of people just made sure of each and every minute details. The infectious energy of the naturalist made us wake up at unearthly hours effortlessly everyday to be part of nature and understand it. The food was deliberate and plated to perfection by the kitchen team at every meal. The operations and ghost team weave their magic around your schedule to ensure and anticipate your needs. All this in the middle of nowhere. To sum up, if you want to live a safari experience in a vacation, the Tajsafaris comes highly recommended. Thank you.
Let me start by sharing that our Stay was wonderful, well attended and we were well looked after. But let me be realistic, for the price you pay for the safari property is definitely high with little differentiation except for Taj Brand. But thats not a complaint, just an observation. I don't want to be a critique for the sake of it. Our overall stay was wonderful and if we find chance to go back we will definitely choose Taj Safari.
We had an excellent stay, the staff was fantastic, the villas are great, and you are well looked after. While the thought of having a personal butler is good, but its more of a terminology. They would have taken care of you even if you don't term them as Personal Butler.
Now lets come to the main activity, Safari...well that was a bit disappointment as you are on the mercy of the Forest Deptt as much as any normal traveller would be. Yes the Taj staff accompanied by a Forest Deppt enforced guide are available, our experience of safari was not great with limited sightings and non cooperative weather.
The Taj staff took great care of us even during the Safari, with water, snacks etc. and a trained staff on Jungle terminology who was driving us around.
My two cents...definitely visit but keep expectations in check.
When you visit a Taj property, our expectations are that of the best!!!...the rooms and location do live up to that...very well done up rooms, the machan is just awesome... superb housekeeping.
the next thing is the food...just does not live up to the expectation, the butlers etc are inattentive, easily forget your order, food presentation is possibly zero... F&B team really needs to pull their socks up.
Our naturalist, Guru, was very nice and great at his job, somehow i felt he was very reserved. i felt that it took away from our experience in some way... having said that , he is a great naturalist and very keen and helpful.
last but not the least, saadhvi, ?(i don't remember her post), was very friendly and very attentive to our every need. we left there making a friend...
to sum it up...it was a beautiful experience, but unfortunately they have some work to do before it can live up to the taj safari standard...
You don't expect any less from a Taj property, but this one is distinctive even by Taj standards. The room units, the attached machaan, the National Park safari experience...all par excellence. The only thing I would recommend for improvement is the food. Considering the price (and even accounting for the availability of only local products from the village market), I think the food needed to be more diverse, better tasting and more local.
The hotel is lovely and staff make you feel at home. The naturlist Ramesh was really great and Rafiq the staff was superb. We enjoyed the safari rides. The rooms were well done. If trvelling with kids ask for the rooms that are close by as there is only one pair that are really close. If you are really into the safaris do both the morning and evening ones, but if you want to enjoy the hotel also take the Morning ones only as this will give you time to enjoy the pool also.
