On the positive side , we could see Neelkanth in the open sky and about 30-40 small colourful birds in a large cage. Sunrise at 6.30 am was wonderful. However , Food was not of very good standard. Restaurant staff was sober but inexperienced or old. Stray dogs( and their excreta) could be seen in the compound.
An awesome family resort, with a nice variety of rooms/ cottages. This is run and managed jointly by PIPDIC and ITDC.
Ours was a Premium Sea facing cottage, which was as exotic as it can be. It was perched on stilts with a canopy, which made it look all the more beautiful! The room was large, with a comfortable and clean bed as well as clean bathroom/ loo. There was a mini fridge and tea/ coffee making kit, which was promptly replenished each morning along with 2 bottles of sealed mineral water. The house keeping staff was also very courteous, as were the restaurant staff. The Reception people were also very helpful and tried their best to aid us in every possible way.
The sea view from our cottage was STUNNING and worth every penny! Since the beach is so close, we had the best of opportunity to go roaming there, whenever we fancied- a very big advantages for beach lovers.
The restaurant had a nice enough variety of North and South Indian cuisines, which were well prepared and piping hot! Baked products like tea cakes can be included in the breakfast.
While approaching this Resort, by bus you must get down at Auroville and take an auto-rickshaw/ cab back to this place. Otherwise, you can request the bus driver to stop the bus at the resort for a couple of minutes, since it is bang on the main road itself.
A useful tip is to save the mobile number of auto/ cab guys, who can be contacted the next day too, for going out. In any case, the Reception people always help u in this too.
The beach closes in this season, at 6:30, so you can explore the markets etc after 6:30 . Visit the tourist spots, like Auroville, White Town, Aurobindo Ashram etc in the day time, when the beach is hot to go to.
All in all, a splendid stay and I shall 100% recommend The Ashok Beach Resort to all Puducherry tourists.
Tip: Opt for Premium Sea Facing cottage no. 522, since this has a full glass wall facing the beach.
The Ashok Beach Resort, near Pondicherry is a beautiful 65 acre beach property. A venue that could have probably been the most amazing place for a holiday except that its run by a group of unprofessional hotel personnel. The staff are most unfriendly and very creepy. Housekeeping very unhygienic and tacky. Infact its very unsafe to leave your room and allow them to enter. Tents and luxury beach facing rooms add the the beautiful scenery. NO CCTV Cameras used which makes it unsafe to live. the only camera I noticed was in the restaurant .
Got the booking there on 11th hour. Nice family place. Ground floor rooms are good if you have kids. It's value for money place and few occasions fit for Desi requirements. People swimming with out proper gears. Having buffet breakfast with wet cloths. Management should prevent such things, good part is its unlimited buffet breakfast though notice are put forward. It's flexible place. Toilets are clean, lawn is superb. Few easy chairs here and there will make a good experience. With little efforts it can come in top 5 resort of pondicherry. They delivered what they promised. Food was excellent, rooms were maintained clean.
This hotel is one of the best hotel in Pondicherry. Run by ITDC , Govt of India. They have maintained it very well. Primary attraction is the beach and access to east coast road. WiFi was not good. Staff may not respond fast
