The Villa Shanti is a truly beautiful boutique hotel in the French Quarter.
The location is very central, the staff is fabulous and the room ( we had a suite ) is stylish, big and quirky as well as super clean.
The problem with this Hotel is the noise:
- the have the MOST popular restaurant / bar in town right in the courtyard, so the noise in our room was just like sitting in the midst of the busy restaurant. It goes well to midnight, so cancel your chance for a long restful night
- the State Bank of India is right across the street and due to current cash crunch issues was one of the busiest places in town, with scooters arriving and departing constantly, from the room it sounded like being right on the street
- the intersection where the hotel is located seems also one of the busiest in the French Quarter so again traffic noise like crazy
If the Hotel had soundproofed windows and doors, it would work, but this is not feasible
I would recommend to enjoy the restaurant and the bar and then go home to a quiet place to sleep :)
The staff as said is superb and the quality of the room is great, but the noise is unbearable
We stayed 2 nights here at Villa Shanti, and we all wished it was longer! Our whole family absolutely loved this beautifully restored boutique hotel. It was to die for. Thank you TripAdvisor! Spotlessly clean, very cleverly designed rooms with privacy glass in the windows, and a very funky modern feel all with an historic old building.
We loved the restaurant in the courtyard. It had an intimate feel, sensational food and all at very reasonable prices. Even with all the competition and choices of restaurants in Pondicherry, we still ate here twice in our 2 day stay, it was that good. The minibar was also really reasonably priced.
Villa Shanti's breakfast was my favourite of the entire three week trip. It is cooked to order, continental or Indian. The Indian dosas and Marsala omelettes here are truly outstanding. I appreciated them more as our trip progressed. Villa Shanti was our benchmark and very few other places were able to match them!
Highly recommended, and would stay again in a heartbeat.
Villa Shanti is in the heart of White Town and easily accessible. The beach is 10 minutes walk away and you can easily move around to the centre by either walking or taking the hotel's bicycle which they offer complimentary. We loved the food and ambience. Raja, the duty manager, has been such a fun and helpful character throughout our 4 nights stay at Villa Shanti! The rooms and bathroom were very clean, so you do not have anything to worry about that. The hotel is a bit pricey but you will return with a memorable experience. Recommended if you want to stay in White Town to see the live aspect of Pondicherry.
The place is very well located: a short walk to the Promenade, the museum, and the best restaurants in Pondicherry. It also has one of the very most popular restaurants in town, so reservations are essential. Breakfast is good, though with a limited range of options. Maybe I should say its very good. The rooms are reasonably sized and adequately furnished, though there is nothing luxurious about them, in fact, rather spartan. Hot water can be a big problem, though it may only affect some rooms. I ran mine with the tap switched one way for about 10 minutes; no hot water. Then I switched it the opposite way, running it for 10 minutes; still no hot water. I called the desk, and after some time (and a lot of wasted water), they did something on the roof that generated hot water. Air conditioning is excellent. The restaurant staff is terribly overworked, so at dinner, when the place is full, they literally run. No running at breakfast, but service might be called leisurely.
After weeks of travelling through India and checking in and out into so called 5 star hotels, this hotel was just fab. Earthly materials and colours, quiet ceiling fans and A/C rooms. Lovely spacious rooms, bathroom toilet were all perfectly matched and functional. Nice outdoor space to sit outside without going to the in house courtyard pub and restaurant.
Good place to have some alcoholic drinks and than have a meal there. Food nothing to write home about but can do.
May be it's a local place to be see and be seen? Everyone looked so beautiful and dressed to kill like in magazine.
Definitely a place to have a break, to treat yourself to a bit of quiet and order before continuing your journey.
Back packers!- listen up. Go to this place and have a break from back packing for a night and rest. Treat yourself. I feel better for doing this. I slept well, relaxed without any hassle with prices etc and now able to continue being a back packer!
Staff were good. Overall recommended to solo travels to meet others at the bar. Just say hello and strike a pose!
