It was our first hotel on Andaman trip arranged by 'Experience Andamans'. Room was small but clean. Sufficient for two people. Had no problem here. AC was good. But doesn't work on generator. But we had no issue with that. Hot water was available. Room service available at extra charge. Food was good. Staff was very polite n helpful. No mosquitoes or other insects. Mosquito repellant was already there. Basin pipe was leaking, that could be improved. As compared to 'Hotel Western Park' where we stayed on our last day, Velocity is much much better; though both are run by same owner. Western Park hotel is pathetic. I would definitely recommend hotel Velocity for families who want good budget hotel.
Clean place, no elevator and our room was on the 4th floor but staff was kind and helpful and helped us checking in and checking out. Breakfast is okay I paid and had an egg as they offered very little. Free wi fi and good speed. Overall nice place.
Stayed twice on arrival and the day prior to departure. Small establishment, I counted only 15 rooms spread over three floors. Ground floor houses the reception, lobby and the restaurant. Standard rooms were really tiny, not more than 80 to 100 sq. ft. No space to move around with the double bed. Bathrooms were not so small, but the overall fit and finish were below par. The hotel is close to Phoenix Bay jetty, has no views and on a main road in front of a market complex. The breakfast buffet is quite meager consisting of puris, chhole, poha and bread on both the occasions we were there. The lobby has free wi fi from 07.00 hrs to 22.00 hrs. May be the place is cheap. We landed up because of our travel agent. Definitely not the place to stay while on a holiday.
This hotel believes that if they stuff all the drawers and cupboards and the bathroom with naphthalene balls, the room would be considered clean, even if the bedsheets and pillow covers are stained and unwashed. An extra (filthy) pillow kept in the cupboard had 5 naphthalene balls placed on top of it, making it unusable. The floors reeked of phenyl and other strong disinfectants so that one feels one has entered a toilet or a hospital. The smell triggered an allergic headache and nausea in my children and me and I had to request them for another room. They gave me a bigger room but I had to remind them remove all the naphthalene balls. They removed all the balls and we opened the small solitary window to let in some fresh air but were instead greeted with the smell of urine. Ironically, despite all the phenyl the hotel uses, they can't keep cockroaches away. One large cockroach crept across my friend's chest while he took a nap. When we told the hotel staff about the cockroach, they assured it was harmless. They couldn't understand why we were horrified. On the whole, the experience was terrible and I was glad we spent only one night there.
I visited Port Blair in May 2016 and stayed at Hotel Velocity with my wife. Its a nice hotel and staffs are very cooperative. It is at prime locality near to the market, cellular jail and the harbor. The management was good and the rooms were clean. The food quality was great. Complimentary breakfast was also not bad. Since our hotel as near the market place so we used to visit the market everyday in the eve. Overall a good return of money.
