Charming Charming

by nuala57 on November 23, 2016

The former palace is gradually being updated and modernised. The gardens and courtyard are charming and lead to a very sociable time. My room was one that hasn't yet been updated, however, the mattress was comfortable and the water was hot, so I have no complaints about it. It felt a little like living in the 1930s. Dinner was served inside in the dining room and was very tasty. The trips out of the hotel were fascinating. We had a walk around the village and saw craftsmen at work. We also had a trip with our host Kr. Harendrapal Sinh to local villages. The people were very welcoming and it was interesting to see people leading a different life from your own. The hotel's faded grandeur was a large part of its charm for me, although I doubt that the continuing improvements will detract.

The service standards have dropped considerably. The whole experience was a disaster when compared to the last visit. The rooms were un kept, service standards below satisfactory. Overall a very disappointing stay.

Poor sanitation! Not happy with the stay Poor sanitation! Not happy with the stay

Visited earlier in the year. Sanitation was a mess. My sister had malaria after we were back. Poorly managed. Horrible response from manager. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Food itself is nothing close to good. Very expensive for the experience. Much better experience can be had at hotels in Rajasthan. Thanks Shreya

An unforgettable getaway! An unforgettable getaway!

A great place to be at if you want to be away from the noise of the city in the weekend. With a line of hills visible from the rooftop and a wonderful starry sky, you would never like to leave if you happen to be to the lovely lake which is at a short drive from the palace. My visit coincided with a very special occasion. The owner's gracious gesture of getting us a wonderful cake and arrange a candlelight dinner to celebrate the occasion made it unforgettable. They have very a courteous staff and a great chef who makes great food. The property is spread over a huge area and well maintained.

It is a totally wonderful surprise when you step in Darbargadh Palace garden and you feel you are totally in a different world of peace and great atmosphere. This building is unique in its glory and heritage but also what it makes so special is to meet Mr Prince Maharajah. Poshina is a wonderful spot for discover the tribal villages and people and it is an unforgettable experience with the guidance of amazing charismatic and charming host.He took us everyday with one of his jeeps for visiting these villages and his approach to people and the respect he is given is wonderful to witness. He is also working for preserving the nature and environment in Poshina which is respectful. Palace is not a 5 star hotel but it has a delicate charm and history, garden so peaceful, rooms quite clean and comfortable. We did not have any major problems in our large room which is in the second floor of back courtyard with a lovely balcony. Wifi is available in main areas and hot water was always available. Food is home made and including a breakfast, lunch and dinner. Travelling many places in India I must say it was the most delicious food I have ever eaten and most trusted i guess. If you ever consider visiting Gujarat make sure your route pass along Poshina and Darbargadh Palace to meet a very special person Mr Prince Maharajah and his lovely wife and very helpful staff, this will be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life I guess.
