Wonderful Stay Wonderful Stay

by Leigh C on January 2, 2017

We very much enjoyed our stay at Darbargadh Palace in Poshina, India at the end of 2016. We were greeted with a shower of marigold petals and a refreshing mango juice, as Hanu, our host, warmly welcomed us. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner was delicious and everything was freshly prepared. Eggs to order for breakfast, for a lunch a refreshing cabbage salad with other items, and we even got to request some dishes we liked for dinner. The property is grand and gorgeous and our room was very comfortable; everything inside was fresh and clean. The staff was friendly and went above and beyond to be accommodating to our needs. Our visit here also allowed us to visit two tribal villages and saw the magnificent ceramic horses facing the temple on the mountain nearby. Our excperience in Poshina was definitely the highlight of our trip. I would recommend staying here to anyone and we to visit again soon.

A True Diamond in the Rough A True Diamond in the Rough

After a long bus ride we arrived at Darbargadh Palace at night. As we entered the palace gates we were greeted with cascading flower petals and a warm hello from Hanu. Once inside I found myself constantly pondering about all the antiquarian statues and art work. The palace had so many interesting facets everywhere I looked. After we got settled into our nice room with a comfortable bed we were treated to a lovely dinner and great conversation from the family. Everyone was so open; It was a delightful night. The next day I had an experience like no other I ever had. We rode vintage army jeeps into the local villages and this is where it hit me that this was no normal place nor your average resort. It was truly a magical time being amongst the local people and hearing the children laugh. Truly the childrens laughter and playfulness opened the doors to my heart like no other day I have ever had. I was unaware when I woke up that morning that I would be affected so profoundly by this experience. When we returned we had a great lunch in the courtyard glowing from our village visit. That evening my wife and I were accompanied by Mrigu to lake Lakhiya, another treasure of Poshina, where we sat and chatted while drinking tea and a few Kingfishers. The day was still not over. The prince offered up access to his private barber where I got a great refreshing shave and much needed haircut. Still there were local dancers and music playing into the night. I sat and watched and had the great privilege to converse with Gopal. The whole time I was in awe listening to his depth and breadth of life experiences. Finally, the hands of the clock were in position to conclude a day I will remember forever with great fondness. So I will end with this; The Darbargadh Palace in Poshina is not your average resort where one sits by the pool and acts reclusive. It is truly a magical place that will that will touch your soul. If you dont believe me please try it for yourself and you will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience.

Yes it could be described as shabby chic, but that's part of it's charm. The whole place is a joy to stay at. There are plumbing problems but so what, you can stay at a major chain if a bathroom is all you came for. Early morning and Evening it is genuinely romantic. to sit and watch the sun rise or set. The family are charming hosts. I had the best egg curry I've ever had and the picnic by the lake was something i shall remember always. Being in the centre of the town meant you could wander out and just enjoy being there. This hotel is surely what you visit India for. ooh fab shops..

Charming Charming

The former palace is gradually being updated and modernised. The gardens and courtyard are charming and lead to a very sociable time. My room was one that hasn't yet been updated, however, the mattress was comfortable and the water was hot, so I have no complaints about it. It felt a little like living in the 1930s. Dinner was served inside in the dining room and was very tasty. The trips out of the hotel were fascinating. We had a walk around the village and saw craftsmen at work. We also had a trip with our host Kr. Harendrapal Sinh to local villages. The people were very welcoming and it was interesting to see people leading a different life from your own. The hotel's faded grandeur was a large part of its charm for me, although I doubt that the continuing improvements will detract.

At best dissapointing At best dissapointing

The service standards have dropped considerably. The whole experience was a disaster when compared to the last visit. The rooms were un kept, service standards below satisfactory. Overall a very disappointing stay.
