The former palace is gradually being updated and modernised. The gardens and courtyard are charming and lead to a very sociable time. My room was one that hasn't yet been updated, however, the mattress was comfortable and the water was hot, so I have no complaints about it. It felt a little like living in the 1930s. Dinner was served inside in the dining room and was very tasty. The trips out of the hotel were fascinating. We had a walk around the village and saw craftsmen at work. We also had a trip with our host Kr. Harendrapal Sinh to local villages. The people were very welcoming and it was interesting to see people leading a different life from your own. The hotel's faded grandeur was a large part of its charm for me, although I doubt that the continuing improvements will detract.
