My husband and I decided to take a break and head out of Mumbai for the weekend... The O Golf Resort was a refreshing property with good chalets (we had booked a one-bedroom chalet). All rooms offer a great of of the Golf course... Though me and my husband both don't play Golf, our stay was still awesome... it was peaceful, beautiful and well-maintained golf course.
Getting there - very convenient for travelers from Mumbai and Pune... From the main highway the moment you start on the Flame Ring Road it takes you to another place altogether... with beautiful hills and no site of concrete buildings etc.
Food - the food is strictly okay and the breakfast could use a little more attention and variety from the staff.
Overall - A very good experience!
We have spent a long weekend of April in Oxford golf and country club with a group of friends. The place is really nice, the fairways are well maintnaned, the huts are cute. That 's all. I can't say that the food is bad, as the previous reviewer, but the menu is quite poor, and lot of meals are available only in weekends. And what was rediculous parexample, Friday's lunch we have been told there is no expresso coffe. So, we got that horrible "filter machine" coffe. Then, on Saturday the expresso machine somehow appeared. So, in fact, they lied to us?
Then, the servis in restaurant is really "THE" horror. Friday' s lunch we have been to empty restaurant only two of us, then we have ordered some meals, the waiter took the order then after 10 minutes he came back to tell us that that the meals are not available. Why he didnt ask the kitchen on the beginning of his working day what is available and what is not. Anyway, we did a new order, two starters and two main courses. They dont know that first they should serve the starters and when the guest finishes it they can serve the main course. So, after quite long time (we were the only two persons in the restaurant as I said already), he brought one starter and one main course and he left. So, we thought we went for the rest, but actually there was no rest. He forget to order in the kitchen a halp of our order. I was already quite upset so I have asked him why he doesnt note the order on the piece of paper when his brain is not able to keep one easy order? He got nicely smiling and that was all. Then when he saw I am really upset because we were really hungry after a long arrival he came later to apologize. It is probably not their fault, they are not professional, but there is simply no professional restaurant management who should train them. There are no tablecloths on the tables, so the restaurant remaids a cheapest fast-food. They dont know there should be the napkins on the tables, so you have to ask it each time. There is no salt and pepper on the table, so you ask again and again and again the things what should be on the table automaticaly. Then , the real disaster is breakfest. I have never seen the poorest breakfest. Breakfest is a big zero. I would not tip those boys in restaurant at all... they dont deserve it.
When you wanna practice on the driving range there is no water available, even when there is a boutique near by, this boutique doesnt sell the water. So, each time you wanna drink you have to walk downstair quite far to the restaurant to buy the water... Not good organisation...
Dont expect too good wi-fi connection.
Have a change. :-) And this is really rediculous. You wanna buy a bottle of water in restaurant? A man has no change. You wanna buy the golf balls in the golf boutique? They dont have a change. You wanna buy water on a fairway while playing? They have never a change...
There is the 18 hole' s green just next to the huts. Saturday at !6am! we have been woken up by the grass-hugger. So, later I went to the reception to ask then why the hell they have to start cutting the grass so early morning exactly next to the huts, there is another 17 greens where they can start cutting. So, the receptionist played very surpised and regreting person then he told me he will tell then not to do it. Sunday 6am.... again?! In fact, it tells me that a client is really a piece of ... for them.
Then, the most weird thing for me was when we asked the reception if we could keep our room on Sunday till 17.00. We played golf afternoon then we wanted to take a shower afterwards before going back to Mumbai. First he told us he cant, because all rooms are reserved. We didnt believe it too much because when we did our reservation we have seen that there is a lot of rooms available in weeks, only weekends are busy. Then the receptionist told us we can keep the room if we pay a half-day price. So, we payed, but in these days majority of the hotels, when we asked this, never had a problem to leave us in the room little bit longer. Our friends have put their luggage to our room then after the game we have seen that there was planty of the empty rooms, even their room was still empty at 17.00. I know that it is up to each reception if they allow you to keep the room or not. In Oxford club you tip and tip and tip, all the time, then you dont feel you are somehow important for them.
Why playing the golf, there is a club staff from time to time passing by the electric caddy cars around you, so even if you are getting ready on the driving range to swing they dont stop the car, they talk, phonecall etc. So, in fact, they dont respect your game, they dont respect the golf etikette.
So, generaly, the management of this resort cares very well about the grass, but the clients are more then nothing. There is no experienced restaurant management. This all was quite big disappoinment for us and we are not sure we will come again to this place.
I even think that the management or owner dont read these reviews, I really think they dont care. If fact there is no management visibly present in the club. Dont trust too much all those positive reviews here, it must be the owner or his friends who write it.
This club claims to have one of the best Golf Courses of Asia & I truly agree to it. It has everything that a golfer needs. Since I am a non golfer , my review is for others who are considering it as a weekend gateway option.
Reaching There- Very easy & quick for people in & around Mumbai/Pune. The approach road to the club is one of the beautiful roads I have been to. Its better to have your own vehicle to reach there. Resort is on the Top of the hill , hence gives you feel of being away from the city though its very much within the Pune.
Accommodation- They have limited accommodation facility. May be 6-9 wooden cabins/ chalets are available. Half of them are duplexes & remain ones are the single chalets. I stayed in a single chalet. Its much more spacious than the industry standards. Even 3 Adults can stay comfortably. All one room chalets have a lovely balcony with a stunning view. Single chalets have twin beds, wall unit for keeping your belongings, Tea Coffee kettle, small refrigerator, writing table with a chair. Rest rooms are equipped with hair dryer, shower, & necessary toiletries. The only thing which I strongly felt was lack of maintenance. Tough the rooms & rest rooms are clean & neat, there is need to change the fittings, door locks , upgrade the air conditioners & the bathing accessories. Wooden cabins indeed need much more maintenance than the regular hotel rooms. To mention an example - The door of my restroom was very hard to shut & lock, AC took almost over an hour to cool down the room temperature.
Food: I loved it. They have limited but very interesting menu. There is a good mix of Indian & continental menu. Breakfast is complementary. It has limited choices but its good & complete. The view from restaurant is fabulous. The Sun set & the experience of having evening coffee at the restaurant is not to be missed at all. Room service is little slow, however I dont have any complains about it. The food is priced rightly.
Activities: This resort is apt for a leisure holiday. Nothing much to do here. There are some basic courses which non golfers can take up. They have one swimming pool. I found it in a good condition. Spa & other sports facilities are under construction. No play area for kids. Only one small patch of manicured lawn is available to play. In spite of this my two years old daughter enjoyed every corner of this resort. But for grown up kids there is nothing much to do as of now. Hotel staff gave us a ride in the cart & showed us the entire properly. This was the best activity which we could do.
Tariff: Approx 6500 + taxes per night on twin occupancy on weekends. Approx 4500+ taxes per night on twin occupancy on weekdays. Its good deal on week days.
Service: I had absolutely no issues with the service. The staff is extremely supportive.
We stayed here in March 2014 as a family of 2 adults & 1 two yrs old child. Food & the stunning location are the two things which will make me visit this place again.
