We read the positive reviews on TripAdvisor and booked this room during the Pushkar Mela time at an atrocious rate that was nearly 5 times the regular rates. We didn't complain though, since all hotels/ havelis/ hostels mark up their prices during the mela. And that's where our problems began. Firstly, we booked 2 rooms but the haveli owner took the liberty to cancel one room and decided to shove all 4 of us (all adults!) into one single room and offer extra beds (read: mattresses on the floor) for an additional cost of INR 1500. We realised this before we reached Pushkar when we called to recheck our booking. But since it was Mela time, we couldn't get an accommodation anywhere else in the town so we reluctantly agreed. The owner also offered to give us a 'bigger' room so 4 of us could be comfortable in one room. All hell broke loose when we reached the haveli and saw the rooms he was giving us. While the owner advertisers and shares photos of brightly lit, well-maintained rooms on various online travel sites and even on TripAdvisor, the rooms he pawns off to unsuspecting Indian (and all women) travellers is a dump that is a far reality. It was basically a storeroom at the back of his house where he lived, that was fitted with a bed and bathroom. The room had two windows that opened outwards - which had some items propped against it to make it seem like it was locked but could easily be opened from outside. We were quite distressed on seeing all this.When we demanded an explanation from the owner, he went BERSERK and started yelling and screaming. His wife joined in as well. They went onto to rant about how this was peak season and we could get out if we didn't like the property. We told him we would gladly leave, if he could just return the 100% advance he took from us for both the rooms and he asked us to "get lost and try to get the refund from the online site if you can". Luckily we had a video recording of him yelling and shouting at us (totally unprovoked) for a good 2 minutes and we forwarded that to the online travel site who deeply empathised with us. The customer care exec not only helped process the refund but she also helped us find other last minute accommodation in Pushkar. We were relieved to clear out from this place. This ordeal was nothing short of a nightmare. Please avoid this place at all and any cost.
