An offbeat wonderful stay An offbeat wonderful stay

by Sumithran on January 7, 2015

This place is more like a horse ranch or a farm. They actually breed and train the horses to dance at the weddings. An offbeat stay but definitely a comfortable and enjoyable one. As it is not a typical hotel, do not expect 24 hr room service or housekeeping. The rooms are well furnished and spacious. We chose a room with a double bed and a double bunk for the kids. However, it was very cold at night with the mercury dipping to about 3 deg. The hotel is about 20 Km from Kumbalgarh and is quite convenient for visiting Kumbhalgarh. In the morning, the horses and ponies were brought outside the stables and my sons had a ride on them. We also had fresh milk in the morning with breakfast. The food is prepared fresh and is good. There are also some wildlife around this place. We were able to sight some neelgais nearby. All the best to Mr. Raj, who runs the place and goes out of his way to make us comfortable.

A work in progress - for nature lovers! A work in progress - for nature lovers!

by Nicky d on January 5, 2015

This place is a work in progress. Set in rural India close to the Kumbhalgarh fort and conveniently between Jodphur and Udaipur, the ranch has masses of potential. Unfortunately it's not as pristine as on the photos and needs both a good clean and modernisation of the (substantial) rooms and bathrooms. It was very cold when we stayed so a bed with blankets AND sheets, and a bathroom with hot water and clean towels would have been nice. So much for the improvements that need to be (and probably will be) made. Now to the plus points: this was still one of our most memorable stays on our India trip. The kids loved riding the Rajasthan horses (some of which were dancing wedding horses), and living and waking up just opposite the animals (horses, cows and Tommy the dog). The next morning a lively horse was saddled up for my daughter (a confirmed rider) for a gallop in the hills with one of the staff and this will remain her most memorable experience of India. Behind the ranch there's a waterhole where animals and birds come to drink and the first thing I heard in the morning were the cries of peacock and baby foxes: a change to the usual honking horns! Staff went out of their way to help us, and cooked some wonderful vegetarian food, as well as setting up an impressive sound system for a little outdoor party. So to summarise: with warm pyjamas and a sleeping bag (in winter), if the staff would spend a few hours scrubbing down the (bath)rooms, this is worth a stay! A MUST for horse lovers.

Beautiful Place! Beautiful Place!

by Jeremmmyy on February 12, 2014

I came here with a fellow backpacker in November. We were treated like family. We got to ride the beautiful Rajasthani horses and help feed them. For a very reasonable price, we were taken on a tour to see magnificent temples and forts and even got to meet a local Baba who lives out in the forest. It wasn't gimmicky at all, we actually felt really lucky to be able to witness the things we did. We took a cooking class with Uncle (the chef on staff). Beautiful place, nice people, totally worth it!
