THE CAFE @ Villa View Homestay. THE CAFE @ Villa View Homestay.

by Renu8 on November 23, 2016

You cannot and must not miss, The Cafe, that adjoins the Valley View Homestay, on NH 86 E,near Umang. They both lie 6km away from Ranikhet Golf Course, between Ranikhet and Almora. A visually appealing and attractive exterior where kettles and cages double up as planters, beckoned us indoors. Interesting bric a bra line the shelves, which add to the charm of the place. At the same time, giving it the feel of a quintessentially English cafe, that one would walk into, while driving around the English countryside. The menu boasts of soups and beverages ,salads, plates of continental mains and cakes and bakes. All deliciously home made. The restaurant also sells locally made jams from juicy fruits grown in the area, such as apricots and strawberries. There is also marmalade to be bought. If tea is what you are looking at to drink, then opt for the healthy choices of infusions made from the petals of the indigenously grown red rhododendron flower and the sacred basil. It is beneficial for increasing immunity against coughs, colds and asthmatic attacks. It also maintains good levels of blood cholesterol and triglycerides. The other interesting health giving infusion was the Rosemary Tea.This had a combination of rosemary, basil and green tea. Apart from giving a boost to the immune system, it also acts as a memory enhancer. Hence, one would totally agree with Samuel Goldwyn, when he said, Coffee, is not, my cup of tea.!As one is assured of the quality, genuineness and purity of the products, they prove to be irresistible purchases for self, family and friends. We walked out onto the narrow running balcony outside and were delighted to see the beautifully patterned wrought iron chairs and tables had gaily and prettily painted red roses and green leaves on them! Completely charming and quaint! The vista that unfolded before us was of the terraced fields. Across the valley, to pine and deodhar wrapped hills, that rose and fell like green waves. Puffs of white clouds seemed to be painted across the unbelievably clear and deep blue sky. You sit to watch the birds flit from an apple to a pear to a peach or apricot tree. Chattering and twittering excitedly as they are spoilt for the choicest of fresh treats. You are lost in meditation, lost in time, as you want to capture in detail the wondrous beauty and marvel at HIS beauteous creations!

Cosy but expensive Cosy but expensive

We took a night stop at Valley View Villa on our way towards Jim Corbett. We had not done pre-booking and spotted this homestay, while driving along. We were the only guests at this facility that night. The price mentioned was somewhat steep with an extra charge for everything, but we were tired and wanted to have a decent place to crash in. The dinner was served in the room and tasted well. The owner is a dog lover (probably has 10+ dogs) and the kids enjoyed watching them in the morning. The breakfast was served in the cafe, which is quite chic. The view of the valley is heavenly signifying the name :)

I came across this place on one of my visits to Ranikhet and really liked the location and the rustic feel of the place, deciding i will surely revisit this place with family and I did that th very next week. The positives: 1. Location: Outside Ranikhet, peaceful place with great views of the valley. 2. Feel of the place: with a rustic feel in the entire building and lots of plants and greenery it looked great. So having covered the aesthetics of the place lets move on to the negatives: 1. When you stay at someones home the host meets and interacts with you to give a homely feeling. Here, the host (Mrs. Singh) was absent from the scene whenever we had any issue, as there is no manager we assume she is the one running the show. 2. Food, we were travelling with a one year old child and despite informing well in advance we had to wait for about 2 hours for our dinner. We were told that food takes time but how long does take to make a simple daal roti home cooked meal?? 3. Cost of food. only one word " Exhorbitant" 4. Bakery. You see those cute little cup cakes that so many people have mentioned in earlier reviews ? Dont even think of ordering one of those as when we reached the cafe they crawling with insects and ants and when we pointed it to the staff they kept it in the sun for a few minutes and put back.. I could go on about the dirty sheets, meager breakfast which was included in our package and unclean rooms. What tops it all is the rude send off we recieved from Mrs. Singh. this is not a home stay.. there is nothing home stay about this place... if you have stayed in a homestay before you would know what i am trying to say. Extremely bad experience.

Best location in ranikhet Best location in ranikhet

We have visited this olace quiet some times while travelling to ranikhet. Its few kilometres away from the busy town of ranikhet, located in majkhali on ranikhet almora highway. Its owned and managed by retired army family. The owner is a lady and has good taste in terms of maintaining the property. They have limited accommodation available and also a restaurant named The Cafe. Its all day dining types and serves good cakes and sandwiches. Also its a surprise to find such a nice environment and ambience right in the middle of nowhere. Whenever we travel again to Ranikhet I wish we could go back here and stay for few days.

we booked this homestay for peace but it came out with dirty rooms filled with insects.no amenities and staff was really out of sight .food was taste less with very high price.no one to look after the guests. Lady running this place appeared only at the time of bill payment and was very rude .when we questioned about the amount of bill she started shouting at us .I advise no one should go there as most of the guest were really feeling tortured and cheated.as she told us room for two is rs2500 with breakfast and bigger room for three person rs3500 with breakfast.but later on she charged rs1000 for extra bed and extra charges of breakfast for third person. She was really cheated us.

Demo Trip Rooms facing valley in the same floor where dining room is situated is our favourite, Two adjacent rooms with a shared courtyard are great, one room is bigger than the other one.
