Banshori is situated opposite Kalu da's tea shop. This is a bungalow with a lawn and converted into a hotel. The service is good but please inform them if you want to have a meal with them in advance. The place definitely needs some refurbishment. The rooms are decent size as well as the bathroom. Also not all rooms have attached bathrooms so plaese check while booking. However a little attendance to the furniture in terms of paint, varnish etc will make thsi place a much more better place to stay. Totos and rickshaws are available after a short walk. Tagore's house and museum are also walkable or 10 Rs fee on totos/e-rickshaws. Over all a good place but can be a great place if they take a little care.

We stayed at Banshori during the Good Friday weekend (8-10 Apr 2015). It was a family trip with 2 yr old daughter and parents. The place has 7 rooms with inhouse dining hall. We had driven there and there is ample car parking space. They have a garden and lawn so one can walk about. Staff is homely and so is the food [dont expect too much high quality]. Bengali cuisine is nicely done and you can ask for custom food for toddlers. Rooms are average [not highly maintained] ; the ac and geyser works. The best thing about this guest house is its location. Shantiniketan post office is walking distance and Prayer Hall etc are just 10 mins walk. So one does not suffer from any of the traffic jams that tend to occur in the evenings. 1 room in the ground floor and 1 in the 1st does not have attached toilet, so please call them and verify your room before booking. We had booked over phone and did all the payments there. There is no park though.

Bunch of Cheats! Bunch of Cheats!

We visited Shantiniketan last December during Pousmela. As decided at the last time, we were unable to book any hotel online. So we contacted one agent (recommended by a friend), he told us about this hotel/lodge/guesthouse. He said this is excellent choice and he can book it for 11000/- INR for 3 nights. Already it is on the higher side but considering the special occasion (Pousmela) we decided pay this price. We were eager to go to Shantiniketan and the agent said there are not much options left. When we reached this place, we were shocked to find that it is a Capstain guest house (not a resort as told), there were no services what so over.... no cleaning of rooms, no water, old box tv which refused to start first , no balcony, no proper blanket (it was around 6 degree at night)! We decided to have food outside so don't know about their quality of food. After staying 3 days when we were leaving the person in the frontdesk asked for 13000/- INR !!!!! Already we asked several people around there to find that their normal rate should not go above 2500 (i.e. 7500 in total).... anyways after some heated arguments that person accepted 11000/- which was previously agreed upon, then we ran from there never to go back again! TIPs: There are plenty of hotels in and around Bolpur.... never fall in some traps laid by unscrupulous agents and hotel owners!

A Quiet Little Cosy Place A Quiet Little Cosy Place

Very good location. A Nice little guest house with personal touch. The food who had (bengali cuisine) was excellent and tasty. Very courteous and genuine staff. But its a place to spend some time on your own, just like Shantiniketan itself. However I may suggest (critically) some face lifting of the rooms (nothing bad about them although) but just small things to give them a bit more aesthetics and polish. However I have no complain and will definitely come back to stay here.
