We stayed for three nights in March, 2019. It was a family trip to the north east. The lake facing cottage is simply amazing. Though Shillong has a lot of scenic places around it, the stay here was an experience all by itself. The ambiance of the lounge, room with fire place, dining areas, gazebo is truly magical. We went to visit Shillong for a day but seeing the traffic and time wasted on it, came running back to the resort. The breakfast choices need to be improved. Overall an amazing experience. Thank you all the staff.
A property worth visiting away from city. Approach road is not good. But I think that's also ok. It gives the feeling of old world charm. Outwardly it's very rustic. But as you enter the property you are transported to a different world. Set by lake, nature's retreat. Being a nature lover couldn't ask for more. Perfect. Staff courteous. Food good. Special mention of Private Dinning place. Looked ethereal at night. Rooms are lake facing. Good to sit in the balcony. Morning enjoy the chirping of birds. At night gaze at stars. Nice property with walks around.
Seeing is believing! That's what you need to do to really understand the serenity of this quaint resort. Placed overlooking the hills and Umiam lake it has a breathtaking view. Purely a picture postcard. The resort is absolutely a nature lover's delight. Build on wood and stones mainly sourced from the area, it gives the feeling of a Jungle Resort. It is completely surrounded by plush greenery and gives a forest like feel. The staff are extremely courteous and you would be greeted with a pleasant smile whenever some staff passes by. The rooms are cosy and gives a cottage like feel. If you are in a habit of having a swanky setup for rooms and washrooms, then you may find that a little lacking. But I loved the old style setup of the room. Felt like living in the British era. The breakfast menu was not very expansive but it was tasty. For your lunch and dinner, if you are habituated to a spicy palette, you may like to give the local dishes a skip, as traditional North Eastern dishes are quite plain and literally have very less usage of spice. I tried a few and decided this was not my cup of tea. So I opted for regular dishes for the rest of my stay. There is a 10 min walk down the trail to Umiam lake, with long reeds growing on the banks. The clear blue water amid the surrounding green hills would give the shutterbug in you lots of ample opportunities.
The only problem over here is that any person with problem in moving around would find it a tad difficult to walk around as the terrain is very uneven, inside the property. Also Ri-Kynjai has only stairs to move up and down as it is a nature's resort, using as less energy consumption as possible.
Overall, it was a great stay and would love to come back here again.
We stayed for three nights at Ri Kynjai and it was a memorable stay. We were totally mesmerized with the beauty of its surroundings, not only was the hotel beautiful and comfortable ,it had mind-blowing view especially from the cottage . It was overlooking the lake . The sunrise n sunset was breathtaking...One can just sit for hours in the balcony n relish the beauty .... The service was great , food was yummy, staff was very friendly and helpful...
Have been in many resorts of East and North East but this place is just the best to offer. Amazing view from cottage rooms, huge wooden rooms with fireplace, huge bathrooms, best service by staff. In short best place to visit in North East.
U just enter the room and u will definitely be like OMG.....
The only set back was breakfast menu spread, though it was not bad but they can offer some more options.
