It's a beautifully designed and decorated resort with almost every facility for a couple or small family to relax and get rejuvenated. Ri Kynjai is a huge property with 5 cottages and 12 rooms situated on the shore of Umiam lake about an hour away from the city (Shillong). Once inside the resort, the only sound you will hear is that of the trees talking to the breeze, insects and birds chirping, and bamboo-drapes flattering in the wind.
My wife and I stayed in a cottage -- a gorgeous facility with a big loft and a large balcony opening up to the lakefront. From the balcony, one can watch how the sights and sounds slowly change at the dawn and the dusk and marvel at the splendor and simplicity of nature.
The in-house restaurant has a nice spread of delicious local cuisine and almost every order is made fresh from scratch. The waitstaff went out of the way to make the dining experience a memorable one. The front desk happily advised us regarding local sightseeing and arranged for vehicles on short notice.
The resort is very clean and well-maintained. The interiors of the building are well decorated. Here one would find a plethora of local artifacts along the corridors, in the corners or on the walls, which add a tinge of simplicity to the otherwise elegance of this resort. There's a small 15-min trail from the resort that leads to a water body connected to the lake. There's also a sort-of-private hut attached to the restaurant where one can enjoy a cup of tea or sumptuous meal in privacy.
The ever-helpful and smiling staff made our stay a real pleasure. We spent four nights and regretted not staying longer!
I had a confirmed paid booking with make my trip for this property infact I had called the hotel 2 days ago to inform them that it was my fathers birthday and to do something special. Instead this lady from reservations was super rude and told me that my paid confirmed booking with MMT the room isn't available I told her to sort it out with MMT before my parents arrive but she dint and even informed her my parents who are senior citizens and as soon as they reached the hotel instead of welcoming them warmly she told them they can leave the hotel as MMT tells them to tell that to their customers she was trying to get the upgrade money out of them very cunningly she had kept the higher version of the room ready also for them but first harassed my parents and even conveying the same message to me over the phone.
I am highly highly disappointed with the hospitality in this hotel and would like a complete refund and would like to sue this lady from reservations as ri kiyanji. Instead of allowing my 60+ year old parents to relax she was trying to stress them out even when other room categories were available. No hotel till date has ever spoken soo rudely or behaved soo badly.
I will be putting this review up in all probably websites as feedback for this horrible property and the staff are highly highly rude when I told her please check my parents in and I will resolve the issue with MMT but she refused on my face and told me 2 times your parents can leave the property and even challenged me saying go do what you want.
It probably was the worst experience for me in the hospitality industry I have never left any reviews specially negative ones for any hotel but I am ensuring this bad attitude will be written about on every website that is marketing this hotel.
We stayed at the lake facing superior rooms. As you enter the room, the views of the lake just take your breath away!! Very spacious rooms and balcony to relax and enjoy the views. Nice walking track inside the property and the most beautiful natural badminton court amidst pine trees!! Very thoughtfully provided for a golf cart and special access for the elderly as the normal access to the rooms has several steps. Food at the restaurant is fresh and tasty with huge variety. Check-in staff could be warmer but the rest of the staff right from the security to the golf cart drivers to the restaurant and spa staff is very very caring and warm. A bit stiff on prices. 3km access road to the resort from the highway in bad shape though
we stayed for one night at this resort, in a lake view cottage. The view was simply breath taking. Overall, very nice experience. One day is insufficient to explore the natural beauty of this place. Price is exorbitant but worth it.
Stayed for 1 night at this property and was completely blown away by the entire beauty fo it. The price is on the higher side - but would still highly recommend because it's completely worth it!
Every part of the resort is so beautiful - the rooms are super spacious (booked the lake view facing room), the staff is courteous and helpful, balcony has an amazing view and even the restaurant has great food.
If visiting Shillong, do stay for at least a night just to relax and unwind. The place is away from the main city so might be a problem if you are thinking of using this as base for your entire stay.
