Sumit Kumar from Shimla, India recommends this hotel Posted:  Room Quality: 1/5 Service Quality: 1/5 Dining Quality: 2/5 Cleanliness: 2/5

Location: is too hrrible and dangers, there is 500 meter steep downward kutcha road and wet slipary way. The one side is deep rocky mountain trench(खाई) which is dangerously turning. As we have booked via Travelguru, therefore, Hotel GM has refused to give us free pick up and drop from danger zone to safe zone for going out. But he has confessed that it is due to he has to pay 25% of booking amount to Travelguru as its commission. Rooms: We have been given a small size long legs bedded room, having a small heater (This Hotel is not having centralised heating system) after complaining as first room alloted was a stinky room. Again on complaint the same story by GM : You have booked via travel guru so I can not help you any more. I have paid 6000 INR per night for 3 nights. Hot Water: There is not any centralised Hot/cold water system. my room was having a small size gyser capacity was not more than a bucket. There is not any running Hot water system. We The time taken by the gyser to give Hot water was approx 3-4 Hours ( Horrible). We were two person, and one person used gyser water and other used on demand Hot water bucket. Housekeeping was horrible. Unclean balcony with black dust sticking to our feet, foot mats were also dirty, given only on demand. Asked to clean up our room. Room given was way down and we used to stay 3-4 times on stairs while coming up to reception. Bathroom was not equipped with the bathing stuff, only two ordinary small size soap bar provided in 3 days. Were given clinic plus one ruppee sacht which we have not used. Room service was very slow, had to remind thrice on most occasions. Hotel was not having any DTH TV facility. The local city cable was there, which was seldom come. I have repeately complaint to GM (the big time liar), he said that there is no DTH facility available in the Shimla city, but we have seen electronic shps selling and using Tata Sky, Dish TV and Videocon DTH. GM told us, as we have booked the hotel via Travelguru, that's why Hotel has not given us Complimentry Breakfast/Dinner, it was paid for us. However, if we would have booked directly then it would have been given us complimentary. Drop after checking out: GM has asked 200 Rs. for Dropping us at AG Office (Hardly 1.5 kms away) on sharing basis and 300 Rs. Dropping our Bags in the evening at Volvo Stop ( Hardly 1.5 Kms Away). Even it was without Bill. We found other guest ( Two major and 2 Childeren) used one bog room, who has paid only 10K (Inclusive, Pick up and Drop to Mall road, Two Breakfast, One Dinner and Taxes) for two nights. Overall: An Horrible experience. I would not recommend booking Via Travel Guru for this Hotel. Also, location is too dangerous, so would not recommend for this an Over Priced Hotel.

Heritage Hotel Deep in The Valley Heritage Hotel Deep in The Valley

by Vyomsinha on January 9, 2017

If approach to the Hotel doesnot scare you then this is a nice property. It is located deep down in the valley with really steep climb, that itself gives an adventerous feeling. They can definetly improve the road condition a bit. The resort is a classic heritage property which unreveals it self slowly, i.e from road to hotel gate then to reception and then to rooms reveals different images of resort. Rooms are fairly large and confortable and over all veru good. Staff is good and coopertive. Unfortunately there were not too many people around when we were there.

Excellent property Excellent property

Lived the 'Real Shimla' Lived the 'Real Shimla'

by NeerajGGN on December 13, 2016

I stayed in the resort from 9th Dec for 2 days. Most part of it was built in Mid 1800. I stayed in Scottish Cottage for a night which was built by British Architect and everything (exterior, interior) reminds you of British era facing the Deodhar trees and pin drop silence. It's a double storied cottage with around 4 bedrooms, a big living room. The bathrooms were a disappointment. The cottage needs a bit of revamping though but the stay was Royal. Another night was at Finnish cottage and it was awesome, very well maintained with all the modern amenities. The staff is very friendly. Special mention to Mr. Pankaj (Manager) for guiding and walking us through the history and arranging all for us. Food is average. The outside lawn is flooded with sunshine since morning and had a breakfast there. They also have bonfire in the lawns in the evening. Kids had good space to manoeuvre around. They provide pick and drop to Vidhan Sabha Chowk and thereafter you can walk around 1.5 km to the ridge/ Mall Road. Pick and drop to the mall lift is chargeable which I expect should be free at least once a day. With 2 small kids, I was planning to go for accommodation on Mall Road but I would have missed the charm of Shimla living being in the same metro type noise. It turned out to be a fantastic gamble and I would definitely recommend it!!

Heritage property located in a remote part! Heritage property located in a remote part!

by bhavesh_gala on November 9, 2016

The location of the hotel is 500 metres from the Vidhan Bhavan and one has to go very steep downhill from there to reach the hotel. It is no doubt a heritage structure. Located in quite a remote area, although the mall road is around 1-2 kms away from the hotel. This is a very very quite and peaceful hotel. Some rooms are located downhill and it could be a task every morning going up and reaching to the reception and then towards your daily outing. The hotel has some animals such as goose, rabbit, etc. and it could be fun for the children. The children play area was not fixed. Overall, very remote location although it has the colonial aura to it. Choose this if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the routine.

Great location but far from the mall Great location but far from the mall

The Shimla British Resort is a typical colonial style resort, with new furnishings the common areas had broken lamps and old furniture lying around. There is a need for maintenance. The rooms had stains on the walls. No activities for the kids they asked for carrom but we didn't get one. The staff were friendly and willing to help. Such a beautiful place needs to be maintained better.

Demo Trip One has to climb (quite steep) stairs to come to reception/dinning area from your room. So don't go for very lower rooms
