Good Property, a few cons for travellers

My wife and I went for a Shimla trip on short notice, you know one of those when you see a long weekend coming and just wish you could conjure up an escape? Plus, snowfall was predicted on the 26th January weekend (Republic Day national holiday). Well, since there are more people in India than one can imagine, everything was full up, and Snow Valley resorts was one of the few half decent options left. Since this was supposed to be a relaxed trip, we went for creature comforts and booked this hotel, albeit at rates which were not obviously exorbitant for the rooms. As you can probably foresee at this point, this is a 'mixed' review. Since I had overpaid, I was prepared for disappointment anyway, but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the rooms (which were only slightly dingy), and the facilities (foosball, TT, et al.). Location was the biggest let-down, as it was at least 4 kms away from Shimla. The hotel never tries to misrepresent this information, to their credit, but it does leave a lot to be desired for a traveller who comes for Shimla. It has this 'stopover' feel to it, and not a 'boutique' or 'away from the hustle & bustle' which a property such as this could attempt to get to. The upkeep was off-centre, and the central heating was not working in my room, which was a pain at 0 degrees, but a (beat up but I didn't care at that point) room heater was delivered promptly upon request. The food was meh (nothing to write home about or remember, really) and very typically Indian. Anybody other than very standard Indian excursion seekers must give this a miss. I am sure the hotel won't miss you, and it has a large clientele anyway.
On a side note, the people were great- from the front desk, to the restaurant staff, housekeeping, etc. Very courteous and accommodating. I shifted to Golden Tulip in Kufri (where the snow was anyway) on the third day, and had to forego my deposit at Snow Valley.
