I had promised my family to see snowfall this year and was actually keenly following the weather forecasts for Himachal and Uttarakhand hills. Once I noticed a fresh western disturbance is approaching the Himalayas and the forecast was for rain / snow during the weekend of 7-8th Jan, I decided to firm my plan. But location................holla.............all hotels in Kufri were full and I personally didn't like Shimla (too crowded, too much of concrete). Tried for hotel is Mashobra also, but found full. So the decision was Naldehra, as it was only 70m below Kufri in altitude. Checked of Tripadvisor for good hotel suggestions and found this property..........The Woodstock Resort, read the reviews and found everything OK. Booking option was available on Cleartrip also, but preferred to contact the hotel directly for booking. Got in touch with the owner Mr. Paramjeet and he offered me a good MAP rate for one of the suite room. He forwarded me bank a/c and payment gateway details for advance payment........things were smooth. Reached the hotel.........splendid surroundings.........nice reception and most prominent was the Manager Mr. Narender Verma. Always with a broad smile and willing to help the guests any way possible. Snow fall started same night, but we never dreamt it would be so severe and paralyze the whole hill for next 2 days. Electricity lines snapped due to felling of tree owing to heavy weight of snow on the Deodar tree-tops. The next day morning we woke up to see complete white-wash around and still snowing. Our car which was parked in the hotel portico, was already buried under 1 ft of snow and had another 1 ft of snow on the top surface. It was an awesome sight, frightening also, as we came to know that power could not be restored for next 2 days and that around 400 cars are stranded at various locations on the way and people had to spend sleepless nights inside the car with families. There was much obstacles around.........no power, geysers in the rooms not working, telephone line dead, mobile signals suddenly became too weak (no data, hardly could speak), water at the overhead tanks fast depleting but unable to refill as the pump was not working. But Kudos to the Manager Narender...........he ensured everyone had warm food in the hotel and he kept us engaged with various indoor activities so that none get bored. By the night fall we were all getting worried about how we could check-out on next day (sunday) as every one had schools / offices on monday. But with the snowfall not receding, we were unable to guess how will be able to take out the cars buried under more than 2 ft of snow? But the almighty had some other plans..........next day morning we were greeted with a brighter weather and sun-rays peeping from behind the cloud cover every now and then. This gave us the courage and after Mr. Narender checked with some locals about opening of some alternate route, we decided to move out. Now came up the daunting task of removal of ice. A PWD bull-dozer was passing thru the main road below, we requested him, offered him some money to clear the ice on the hotel drive-way, but he refused. Again came forward Mr. Narender with his team...........cutting ice by hand using shovels, plates etc and anything else he could lay his hands on. With their tremendous efforts for next 2 hours and literally even pushing every car by hand, we could finally bring down our cars finally around 2:30PM. And the time was to move out fast as we had a travel of 400plus KM to travel to reach home, including snow-laden slippery roads. But thank god, we reached home safely by the same night. But we carried home an awesome memory, which we would like to carry forward.
The service is wonderful .. The manager takes care of your needs quiet well . We were there on the new years eve and the hospitality was amazing . Had bonfire and DJ arranged by the hotel and the manager was very entertaining . Love to be back .
We stayed in the family suite. Our stay was quite pleasant and comfortable. The hotel manager - Mr. Narendra Verma and his entire was quite helpful and cheerful. The hotel food was bit overpriced as compared to the portions served but the food was made to suit the palette. I would come back again and would recommend this hotel for a good family stay.
Awesome place to stay, nice natural views, really loved the location. It was my pleasure to stay there.I like the hotel's interior, services are excellent specially manager's behaviour .He is so jolly and make you comfortable with new place.
Take a group of six people from a family , drive out from the blazing heat of the plains to a higher altitude, a road trip filled with laughter and finally landing at a place called The Woodstock Resort !!! What do you get ? A perfect recipe one would want to enjoy every year if one could do that. The raw beauty of the place , the surroundings, the courteous staff , the attention to detail , the food that tasted like it came from mom's kitchen, the surprise offering of snacks made from fresh local produce and the warmth of the interiors complete with rustic wood panelling that one usually does not get to see these days, all this and more had us all floored. The slight evening chill was broken by the bonfire where we sat till the wee hours of the morning, long after the embers had been fanned out by a slightly stronger wind !! What an experience ! A treasure trove of goodies packed into a resort every travel enthusiast must put on his or her "to do" list ! A big thank you to everyone at Woodstock !
