Royal Orchid Shimoga is a great hotel and decision to stay there was good. The room was very clean and well furnished. Food served at Royal Orchid was just excellent. New year party organised at hotel was good. I would recommend this hotel to any one who wants to stay in Shimoga.

It was a surprise when I entered the room in shimoga, the rooms are on par with 5 star hotel in any of the metro cities.Very clean, all possible facilties are provided in the room like LED TV, tea coffee maker, mini bar, woodden flooring, iron box, super soft beds, neat bedspreds and modern bathroom fittings. I really njoyed the stay and this hotel provides absolute value for money.

Hotel is a relatively new property and the stay was very pleasant. It is centrally located and easily accessible. Staff needs a special mention- they were very courteous. Shimoga is quite well located near a lot of tourist options. Overall a very good option

Mixed ! Mixed !

by Ananya B on November 9, 2016

Hotels staffs were good though I have little problem with the reception as Inspite of having prior booking they made us wait for an hour for the parking. At Room Service they serve tea or coffee without cookies which never happened in my life while asked they told it is chargeable, whereas at their other properties also doesn't do this so as any other hotels and rest one can make out with the photos attached: Broken Window glass,Dirty sofa,Broken sugar container. About food :it was of nice quality though varieties were less.So overall experience was good but not very good!

Mixed Experience: Great Food, Average Room, Poor Reception Desk Support Mixed Experience: Great Food, Average Room, Poor Reception Desk Support

Positives: *Excellent kitchen (some of the best food tasted at 5 different hotels throughout the state this trip) and thoughtful dining room staff. Breakfast buffet items varied appealingly, day to day. *Strong water pressure with centralized water system, so hot water immediately available. *Comfortable bed and good reading lights bedside *Public and private rooms clean *The gym on the fourth floor is pretty modest (just three machines and hand weights) but new equipment, room to stretch, mirrors, lockers, restrooms, and water bottles and hand towels. Negatives/Room for improvement: * The hotel REEKED of insecticide one morning, both the 3rd floor hall and the lobby, and had a low scent of it on other days, too. * I certainly don't expect fluent English throughout a hotel, but surely at the reception desk? One man did not understand that we wanted to check out!. Other challenges could have been due to language or attitude: We had to ask twice to get IT help for computers, twice to have someone open the fourth floor gym, and twice to have an engineer help us adjust temperature in the room. This may be a lower level hotel than others visited, but this was certainly the least gracious arrival we have encountered at 15 hotels in India over several years. It is the ONLY one where we were NOT greeted at the door OR in the lobby, and not ushered to comfortable chairs (there weren't any) to arrange check in over a cool drink. Rather, we stood in a queue at the desk. That said, the check in records and process were flawless. * The website indicated that the pub (Mixx) opens at 5. Apparently, it does not open until 7, with dinner hours. Please correct the error. * The dining room on ground level, right off the lobby (Pinxx) had NONE of the wines listed in its old, dog-eared menu. Instead they offered much more expensive (and bad) Italian wines. The one we bought sells for $9 in the US. They sold it for $40. (This despite a 1/2 bottle of Indian wine in the room for a reasonable 399 Rupees). Bait and switch? Why not offer those in the dining room, too? * The hotel is not in an attractive location. The view out our room was a lot sized dump. Fortunately, the hotel at some point covered the bottom half of the window with patterened, translucent plastic to obscure the view. * City noises, including traffic and construction, were evident, but not too obtrusive on the back side of the third floor. * The gym was always locked and required that we call down to the reception desk to have them send up a guard to open the door. This always took about 15-20 minutes, standing in an unairconditioned hallway. Why not leave it unlocked or give keys to guests? * We were unable to adjust the temperature in our room, which defaulted to a cool 21 degrees C, even after the engineer showed up. Our solution was "on-cool", "off-warm up" "on-cool" patterns. * The lobby/restaurant area looks like a big, white hospital waiting area. Functional, but not pretty. The 0 level bar and dining room (evening only) are more attractive. * The dining room has the shortest music loop I have ever heard. It is a relaxing flute solo, but I heard the same piece over and over through any given meal. Easy to change. Note: A prior guest commented on the unairconditioned hallways off the rooms, and management countered the observation, saying that all halls are air conditioned. However, the third floor stairwell rises to the unairconditioned fourth floor with no doors, so, of course that part of the hall is ALWAYS warm. In addition, every day we noticed that the 3rd floor housekeeping staff left the doors open to the service halls, which are definitely open-air and non-airconditioned. So the guest's observation of hall temperature, at least on 3rd floor, is absolutely correct.

Nice stay Nice stay

This was our 6th stay in this hotel in last few years and we may confidently say that perhaps this is the best in town. Got a terrific rate from GOIBIBO and stayed for a night. Every thing is perfect but: 1) Towels are fadded, old and smelly. In my last year's review I mentioned about the same problem but it seems that the management is overlooking this which will hamper the brand image and goodwill of this gem of a property. 2) Next to our room a few rooms were occupied by some corporate people and whole night and even early morning they were making lot of noise and ruckus. In the night also under influence of liquor several times knocked at our room. Despite our complaints to the front office this was continuing.Could not sleep properly though out the night. The management must look into such behaviour of the guests. Even then will stay here in future and recommend to family and friends. Overall a 8 out of 10 to this property.

Much below expectations Much below expectations

by ASWINI A on October 20, 2016

I stayed overnight over a business trip last week. It took a long time for both check in and check out. Restaurant service quality was pathetic. Room was average. Mattress needs a serious replacement. It's truly much below my expectations.

Stayed there with wife and kid on 29/09. Its a great hotel, excellent rooms. Friendly staff. Overall very happy. Will return again. Restaurant food is excellent, albeit slightly expensive. The breakfast spread was large and good quality. I will definitely recommend stay here.
