Overall poor experience for the few hours that we could sustain at one of their premier houseboats, Mother India. Checked out after a few hours because the toilets, though working, were stained with age, the bedsheets were not clean and fresh, carpets frayed all throughout, and there was this mushy odor pervading throughout the boat. Dinner was served cold, and the cooking and taste bore evidence of indifference, more representative of a table somehow laid down to get the business over with. We were inundated by salesmen for the few hours we spent on the boat, the Shikara ride in the captive boat of the houseboat was awful with the boatman trying to take us to places where we would tend to buy things and he would get his commission rathe than taking us for an actual ride. Overall, a bitter and substandard experience.
We stayed in the boat named 'Alps' of California boathouse. Boat has a common room, a dining room, 2 double bed rooms and 1 triple bed room. Nights become quite cold, and they have electric beds to keep the bed warm. Bath rooms are clean even though it's on a boat, with hot water available round the clock. Dinner is served in a common place a few steps away from boat though the boat has a dining room. [for MMT users] Overall, a very good experience.
We loved our one day stay at the California Houseboat. It was a unique experience. The interiors of houseboat are vintage and the wood work is so lovely. Our houseboat had three rooms. We were given the biggest room since we were family of three members. All basic facilities were available except for we had to buy water. They did not provide any drinking water. Tea was available on request. Our care taker person was helpful. Staying in a houseboat , looking at the sunset of dal lake is a once in a lifetime experience. We enjoyed our stay. Recommended
The house boat is in good location. Very good view of Dal lake. The facilities very good Service excellent. Food served also good. Spacious rooms, with all facilities. Comfortable bed, large bathroom with all amenities.
Very charismatic beautiful old world charm. The boats are great. 5 rooms per boat with great service. Interior decorations are fabulous. Food was good but not great .Always a cold beer if you wish. Sitting on Dal lake the scenery and peace was just great after having toured in a heat wave in central/northern India for a month now to have such cool temperatures of 25C Floating on the lake on the Shikaras was great. Service and attention was first class with my guide Abdul and the boat operators. All so friendly.
