Cozy retreat with class and taste !!! Cozy retreat with class and taste !!!

Its a heritage property right in the middle of Srinagar but without the hustle & bustle of the surroundings. The rich family tradition of the property is tastefully retained with period furniture, photographs, memorabilia and an overall cozy ambience. The entire staff is ever ready to help - all ably led by the Manager, Tanveer. There have been reports in the past on the hot water issue - while it is there in a small way, some amount of patience and exploring with the plumbing issue would help understand the trick and one can enjoy continuous hot water supply any time!!! Lots of efforts and investment have been put by Mr. Khanna for installing a huge boiler which supplies hot water 24X7 and the staff are now trained to ensure proper supply. The food is awesome and the rooms are super!!! It is a like a Home away from home. One can easily compare this property with any heritage property anywhere and that is exactly what one should be expecting. Overall 5 out of 5 score !!!

I'll have to go back one day, hopefully I'll have to go back one day, hopefully

I stayed there with my partner for 2 or 3 nights, sorry I cannot be more specific, in May 2015. We had booked from France one or two months before and had exchanged emails with the owner. So we were quite put off when we found out on arriving that the hotel was undergoing renovations and wished the owner had told us when we made reservations. It was all quite a mess. We were not too happy about it, furthermore as the room rate was not a budget one. After some negotiation on the phone, the owner told us we could pay whatever we thought fit and that would be OK with him. All this was for context. We were given the only available room which was quite large with a very nice en suite bathroom and a balcony. We quite literally had the place to ourselves which was quite relaxing after a day walking in the mountains, even though it was a bit spooky as it is a bit far off the main road. The staff was really nice and though we only had breakfast there it was well cooked and plenty. Even in a bad state of refurbishment the property really looked promising. All in all we enjoyed staying there and everything I mentioned before made it a unique experience although we were a little disappointed at first. We would gladly come back and pay full rate for a fully functional place. When we checked out, the owner was faithful to his word and let us pay what we thought our stay was worth. If I ever go back to Kashmir, I shall surely check in there again.

Fabulous home-stay in the valley! Fabulous home-stay in the valley!

We had been hearing good things about Shil Villa for some time now. We wanted to try it out and had booked it a while back when our plans were canned due to the flash floods that hit the valley. So we were really chuffed to make it there this summer! The experience was fabulous and even better than I expected. Whether it's the quaint cottage feel or the tasteful upholstery, the villa has a lovely feel to it. The beds are perfect for that long snooze in the afternoon and a nice relaxing sleep at night. The wood work in the rooms including the floor and ceiling are beautifully done. We stayed 2 nights in a lovely room on the first floor and 1 night in a cute little room on the second floor (which has its own little balcony). A nice lawn in front of the villa has its own garden chairs to curl up in with a nice book.. The staff led by reliable Tanveer are resourceful and hard-working without being in your face. The food is simple yet remarkably tasty. While there is phone/ data connectivity, its pretty unobtrusive. The villa is beautifully located just off the river with a nice bund built for morning/ evening walks! Overall, a lovely place to get away to when the heat and stress of Delhi gets to you..

A home away from home A home away from home

by Mrinalini Sen G on June 15, 2016

We stayed here for three days and it felt just like we were at home. The rooms were tastefully done. What I loved the most were the super clean sheets and towels and comfortable mattress which I didn't expect in b and b. The level of cleanliness was also good. These are so important for a good holiday. While they have WI FI which we did use, its Srinagar so don't expect the best or regular service. If you expect 3g broadband then maybe you should stay at home. The staff really take care of you and all your needs and are ever willing and happy to get you kahwa even at 11 at night. It must be so difficult for a property like this to give you the service it does. Hot running water, 24 by 7 electricity is taken for granted by so many like us and this humble Abode manages to pull this off despite not being a five star chain. I also loved the location of the place which is on the jhelum. It's a couple of kms to residency road and polo market and 4-5 kms to dal lake. We walked to these places or took autos which were easily available. Would love to go back with a bigger party and book the entire cottage and bask in the sun in there big lawn. I would suggest take the top most floor. Rooms are smaller but have a lovelier view. You can sit out on the terrace.
