we stayed in cultural palace house boat .the house boat was neat and clean with good decorations and wooded furniture . goodrooms neat bath rooms . we have taken all the 4 rooms of the boat. we reached to the house at 4 pm.around 6 o clock the problem started when the care taker told us that they dont have cook and we have to go out and have dinner. we r shocked . it is raining out side and we have 4 kids of age 4-7.he did not understand our difficulty.not to blame him also as he is only the care taker. we told the care taker that we will buy food from out side and eat there for that he told we have to pay 500 to use the dining table. we r very upset . at last he told us to buy disposable plates and have dinner in the boat.two men from our group hired shikara went out and bought food for all of us in that raining, freezing cold weather. no hot water . only in the morning the caretaker supplies hot water to take bath. one of the kid was not well. we didnt even get a tumbler of hot water for that child. for morning breakfast he gave us bread and jam, poha upma and egg.that jam bottle which was an expired one .so we didnt use it we returned to him.though the boat was good we didnt enjoy much beacuse of non availability of food , hot water etc

We stayed on this houseboat during a visit to Kahsmir. The entire journey was an experience from the transfer to the edge of Dal Lake and then the shikara ride to the houseboat that was moored in a quiet part of the lake. The houseboat owner, Mr. Goosani is also the owner of a travel company and was extremely courteous and hospitable. We were greeted on arrival by the caretaker/housekeeper. The houseboat is furnished with beautiful walnut carved furniture and Kashmiri carpets and was very quaint. The food was simple yet good and the caretaker was a kindly gentleman. The rooms were clean and warm although due to there being no central heating, it gets quite chilly if one is not near the heater. We occupied two rooms so we had the entire houseboat to ourselves which was nice. Being a houseboat, the amenities are basic but adequate. Apart from this though, the scenery from the houseboat is simply breathtaking; a clear and unobstructed view of the distant snow clad mountains and the Shankaracharya temple. In the evening, we had the experience of local retailers bringing their wares to our doorstep ie the houseboat. We were also taken by shikara to a walnut factory and carpet outlet and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride on the calm waters. Dal lake is polluted around the edges but where we were it was a very idyllic stay and one to be experienced. The warm hospitality of the owner and housekeeper made for a very pleasant stay and one which I would recommend to other travelers to Srinagar.
