Don't let the exterior fool you.

We spent our last night in Kashmir here, we were initially supposed to stay at the Pine Spring in town. Due to a rebooking error by our travel agent, the hotel didn't have enough rooms for us and suggested we stay at their Nowgam hotel, where, in their words, the rooms were just as good. Having seen the rooms in the town, we took them at their word. We were foolish.
The hotel is located away from the town centre, but near the Srinagar train station. At first glance it looked like a very nice place to stay.
The concierge was helpful, but the hotel staff were a bit rude when we asked to get rooms away from the 'courtyard' where there was a wedding held that night.
The rooms were okay, clean for the most part, but there were stains in the sheets and pillowcases. The floor was grimy as well. The beds were fairly hard, but if you're tired enough and can sleep on your side, it doesn't bother you that much. Sitting on the toilet was like sitting on a chair with a wobbly leg.
Limited choice of food at the restaurant. My father asked the waiter for ice, and the waiter went away for 15 minutes, only to come back and tell him that they didn't have any. At breakfast, the bread comes long before the butter, in spite of this being a 'buffet'. They serve instant noodles, but be smart like the guys at the table next to us, and ask them to prepare it fresh for you. The noodles at the buffet were attracting flies.
If the town hotel doesn't have enough rooms and recommends this place, go look for some place else. Try the Residency, they're a work in progress and in the heart of town, but they're much better than this.
We stayed here only for a night, frankly I think one can not take it anymore.
We were 3 adults & 1 kid. Due to medical reason's we had to reduce 1 day stay is houseboat & had requested for hotel stay instead. But carelessly the reception staff at pine spring pahalgam sent us off to pine spring wazir baug without even checking if the rooms were available or not.
We were made to wait for about an hour before being taken to the nowgam hotel which is actually outside Srinagar city & is third class hotel. It was raining, we were already exhausted & cold due to the mess done by the hotel staff & to add to our misery the pine spring nowgam wasn't even ready to receive us. We were checked in a room without heating & were made to wait in cold till we were shifted to other room. The hotel manager did try to do his bit by offering us coffee & dinner in the room itself instead of the restaurant. We were given electric heated beds, which took time to warm up & by morning all of us were sweating. The bath room fitting were atleast 2 decades old were all falling off.
The breakfast was limited & the restaurant manager was shouting on a guest when we entered. (although I could not understand the issue)
Lastly a common rude expectation across Kashmir is that everyone expects a tip. But, the waiter who had brought us the morning tea & dinner broke all limits & pursued me to give one. Unfortunately I was not carrying any cash at that time & gave him 10 rs which was available. This waiter has audacity to return this money back to me!
In all it was a very bad experience.
Concluding our Kashmir trip with Veenaworld,we stayed in Hotel Pine Spring,Nowgam ,Srinagar for two nights.
It is a beautiful property.Artistically laid out,at a serene location away from the hustle& bustle of city life, yet not very far from airport or main attractions.
The rooms are large, but no sound proofing. One can hear every thing from outside.24 hours running hot water and although restricted hours room heating,it was adequate. This was welcome change from restricted hours and inadequate heating services elsewhere in Kashmir.
We found the staff, surprisingly in Kashmir, rather indifferent. One had to ask for every thing. It also had fixed hours food services.
Major attraction here is Srinagar Railway station next door. Visit to it must be on every one's agenda. It is very clean, new and place of pride for Indian Railways.
