The boathouse inner view looks like you are in a palace. Room heater made our sleep good. Child seafty was good in the boat house. Food was amazing. It was very cold on 1st week of January, but we enjoyed fully. Recommend for all including family.
Last November I spent a week living in the lap of luxury on a houseboat, moored on the shores of Lake Nageen in Kashmir. This was a very special trip for me, because 35 years ago my husband and I spent our honeymoon, on this same houseboat, owned by the Madarie family, and were lucky enough to remain friends with them all. After my husband's death, they suggested a return visit, and I found myself welcomed back with open arms. I was looked after superbly during a memorable week, in which we went up to the mountains of Pahalgam following a snowfall, explored the beautiful Mughal gardens of Nishat and Shalimar, and floated over the lake in shikaras where the kingfishers flashed past in brilliant colours. My hosts know and love the lake and its surroundings, and are the perfect guides - not just to the immediate vicinity, but to the mountainous wilderness beyond, where one can trek and camp and enjoy a real adventure, knowing that one is being well looked-after. I had an absolutely wonderful time, and would recommend anyone who really wants to explore the beauties of Kashmir to put themselves into the hands of the Madarie family and stay on one of their ravishing houseboats.
Kashmir is always in my list, but due to many circumstances and as well as the news of the political unrest that was preventing me from going there sooner. Im glad I got to spend my New Year holiday there and stayed at New Jacqueline Hertitage Boathouse, which I felt like home away from home. The staffs were friendly and went out of their ways to serve us especially Manzoor.
I shared a room with a friend in a Deluxe room, it is spacious and beautiful decorated. The room we booked came with breakfast and dinner, the food was good. I found it salty for me on the first meal so I told Manzoor and he coordinated with the cook, so the following dinners were good!
The view was nice, but we were there during winter so it was foggy most of the time. However, as the nature and birds lover there were many birds came by the boathouse every now and then.
The managing director Mr. Sami is very kind and he visited us every now and then to make sure we were comfortable. His family is also runs tour business, which Im planning to go back for a Kashmir Great Lake trekking (8 days) and they also own Kashmiri textiles shops. His brother, Amir manages Kashmir textiles shops in Leh, Ladakh and they also have a showroom not far from the boathouse, which I got few items at a reasonable price. If you are looking for Kashmir rugs, they have many beautiful selections. I haven't planned to buy rugs at this time, but I like one and one day I will go back to get it.
I have to say that the hilight of this trip is the service from both the staff and the owners that made us felt so warm. Without them I would just rate my trip so-so as I couldnt really see much of the view due to the foggy vision of winter, but Ill definitely go back during the summer or spring to see the beautiful nature of Kashmir.
For those who are concerned about safety and the unrest situation, from what Ive witnessed, this city is peaceful, safe and Kashmiris are among the kindest people Ive ever met.
So if you are planning your next holiday to Kashmir I highly recommended New Jacqueline Boathouse!
Happy New Year!
I would suggest everyone to stay in Jacquline houseboat while they are visiting Kashmir. The ambience and the service what they provide is excellent. Very cooperative and friendly staffs, quality of the food is really good. Overall its a best place to be in Srinagar for all kind of travellers.

I had seen the reviews of this houseboat on Trip Advisor and had booked it for one night just to experience the stay at houseboat. I had a conversation with Sami, Owner of the houseboat on his number (given on their website) regarding my stay in Kashmir as I was very apprehensive to visit the state. He cleared all the doubts with unparallel patience. Before going to Kashmir I talked to him 5-6 times and every time he responded in a very gentle way.
So, on 22nd December we reached Srinagar Airport and booked a taxi to the houseboat in 1000 Rs. from the airport. It is approx 20 kms from the airport so the rates were very reasonable. We reached the ghat and from there a Shikara picked us for the houseboat without any extra charges. In the way, another Shikara approached us for the photography and we got some nice clicks in the kashmiri dress.
At houseboat, we were received by three gentlemen and they introduced us to the houseboat. It was an unforgettable experience. The interiors of the houseboat were awesome. View of the lake from houseboat was beautiful . Lake was very serene and peaceful. An ancient way of heating the drawing room and bedroom was very interesting. Note that they don't provide heater in bedroom in daytime. During our stay, Akbar Chacha ( caretaker) took care of every comfort we had expected there. He is gem of a person and has a vast experience in the industry. You can say him kattappa of the houseboat.
He welcomed us with Kahwa and served us some pakoras and bread ommeltte on demand. We went away for shopping at 5:00 pm and came back early by 8:00 pm due to the cold weather . You can either hire a taxi from ghat(800 Rs. Round trip) or you can walk to the main road for auto (400 Rs. Approx Round trip ) to dal lake. On our return, Akbar chacha served us with delicious home like dinner. Then we went for sleep. Beds were cozy. Heater was perfect. There was good arrangement of hot water in the bathroom. Though the temperature was in minus outside, in the houseboat, we didn't feel it at all.
In the morning, we left the place after the breakfast for our trip to Gulmarg.
