Located at a short distance from the shore, makes commuting from boat to shore an easy affair.Well laid out rooms, grand decor, with an open huge drawing room, Dining room followed by staying rooms. Maintained well. Staff was good, Food was also nice.

Went to Kashmir with family for a holiday. Was booked in Wanganoo houseboat for the 27th of june 2015. Booked that houseboat by mistake, Called the owner Mr Arshid and requested him to change the houseboat from his Wanganoo houseboat to some good one in Dal Lake as Wanganoo is in Nigeen lake and not Dal Lake.Thankfully, Mr Arshid changed the houseboat to this Young beauty Star houseboat in Dal Lake. the location is good and the houseboat also decorated well. Had a nice experience in the start. But as the evening ventured in to the night,I asked for dinner and expected some non veg to be on the menu. I had heard that houseboat cooks ask for your choice before cooking, but to my surprise the food was ready even before they had asked me for anything. Anyways, I had to eat what he gave me. The caretaker is an old man and he brought 2 vegetable , a dal and some chapati rice. The rice was ridiculously low quality and the other vegetables were passable. I had my food not with great enthusiasm. There started the dampner. The caretaker asked me for the breakfast and I requested omlettes for me and paranthas for my family. He said, he will only make one thing, either the paranthas or the omlettes and will not serve 2 things. Anyways I had to agree to what he had to say as he was my lord for the night and the morning. reluctantly , after having a not so good dinner , I slept in my room which had a problem with mosquitos. Almost the whole night, we could not sleep. the commode of the bathroom was also not fixed to the ground, it was shaking and had a tough time using it. My wife was as dejected as I was. In the morning , when the caretaker brought the food, I was agahst at his caretaking abiliites. 6 paranthas and a katori/small bowl of curd was all he had for us for breakfast. We were a family of 4 people with 2 kids. When I asked him for more curd, he looked at me like I have asked for his personal property.I sternly asked him for some more curd and then he got one packet from the nearby market and we ate our ridiculously lousy breakfast. The caretaker is not very kind and the food was not good at all. All my dream of a houseboat had crashed to some extent. And I was dejected at Wanganoo Owner Mr Arshid, not even calling me once to enquire if I was comfortable or anything that I wanted. This , I felt was insulting your guest who has come all the way to spend some good time with the family. Hope this review opens the eyes of fellow travellers as well as the houseboat owners.
We liked our stay so much that we dropped our original plan to stay in a hotel for 1 night and extended our stay in this house boat. The houseboat is moored at a nice location and the rooms have a nice view unlike most other boats as there a gap till the next boat on one side and you can see the mountains from the room windows. roof access is available and I will recommend going there at least once to enjoy the view of the snow clad mountains. The roof door is heavy and let the caretaker Mr. Ghulam take care of it. recommend sitting in the balcony of the houseboat and enjoy the sights in peace. The ride on the shikaras to and from Ghat no. 9 on Boulevard road is included in the price. No tips are expected by the shikara operators. The houseboat sitting area is large and so is the room. the rooms are equipped with 3 beds (twin+single) with LCD TV connected to DTH satellite connection. The beds are fitted with electric blankets for the cold nights and the caretaker advised that they also have heaters (bukharis) placed in the rooms in winter. The walls are thin wood and sounds carry so be careful of the sounds you make or the conversations you have. The bathroom has hot running water available round the clock and is fitted with a bath tub. one drawback is that there is no direct ventilation/exhaust system and the toilet/bathroom can get smelly :-( . The boat has a generator available to take care of the electricity cuts. We opted for Breakfast on the houseboat and this is certainly an area where lots of improvement can be done as the options available are highly limited. Morning Tea and Kahwa was on the house and we enjoyed some daily!! We had one dinner and I will not recommend it. All in all the cook's capabilities are limited. The caretaker is very nice though. Tip: 1) buy your liquor from Hotel Heemal on Boulevard road (3 outlets) and you can have same in your room. The owner Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmed Raga was quite open minded. Do not buy from the shikara shops as it is very expensive. 2) ask the owner Mr. Imtiyaz for arranging cab for your sightseeing. we found his prices very competitive compared with the taxi operator's union. no need to pay the cab driver and you can settle the bill with the owner directly. 3) Do not forget to tip the caretaker, cab driver and the cook
