Stayed along with around 20 of my friends on 2nd/3rd Feb as booked by another friend for us for his daughter' wedding! Hotel looks New and hence the room and toilets were clean. Staff were friendly but a little rigid as is always the case with hotels in small cities in south. Though the rooms are in 3 different floors, there is no lift. They have a restaurant attached to the hotel where we had just tea/ coffee as all other meals were at the wedding itself. I am not sure whether it suits a business visitor. As they charge on 24 hrs check in and check out basis, it may be suitable to them too. Rtn J Ganesh

Good Hotel to stay Good Hotel to stay

by Suresh P on February 3, 2017

The hotel, though 3 Kms from Rly Station, has good amenities for stay, except Hot Water. There is a small in-house restaurant but food is average (no other eateries are available nearby). Transport facilitate also a drawback (Taxi services are expensive and Autos not willing to bargain). Place is calm and good for family stay (though it is priced slightly higher)

Service???? Service????

We had to visit some temples and chose Thanjavur as the place to halt instead of Kumbakonam. Parisutham and Sangam were the most well known hotels. Sangam was full and Parisutham came to little more than 4K all inclusive. Had it been a longer stay we would have chosen Parisutham but we were only going to stay for 15hrs maximum hence looked at smaller hotels. We called and booked a room for 2 adults and 1 child in a Hotel called Victoriyah. The hotel guys called me 2 days before the trip to confirm whether we were coming and I confirmed him about our visit. We left early on Pongal day and drove through Pondicherry to Thirukadaiyur and Thiruvenkadu. The next day morning we had to go to Thingalur. we reached the hotel by around 5PM. There was a meeting hall next to the hotel where a political meeting was scheduled to happen that evening. The hotel claims to have parking bur there was none. We were asked to park on the street. I informed the desk clerk my name and he checked his books and asked me why I didn't pick up my phone? The question did come as a surprise as I told the guy 2 days back that I will be driving from Chennai and since we will be visiting temples, I may not be able to pick my calls. Then he said the room has been given away and nothing was available. Upon insisting he agreed to check if rooms were available and asked how long we will stay. I told him we will leave by 6.30AM. He said he has some rooms available, just then the priest from the temple called and informed us that we only have to be at the temple by 8.30. So my wife asked him if we can leave by 7.30AM instead of 6.30AM? He slightly raised his voice saying, with great difficulty he has managed to find a room and it is not possible for extending stay by another hour. Yet he is only going to charge us for the full day. We decided to look for options, then the desk clerk asked if he wants to check in another hotel. He said Hotel Philomena was good, but could not get its numbers. So finally thanked him and walked out of the hotel. We then booked in another unknown Hotel called Yagappa through Agoda

Pleasant stay Pleasant stay

The hotel is in a quiet area a bit out of the centre. Because we are English we enjoyed walking to the temple on one occasion (I appreciate most Indians would not dream of doing that!). But auto prices seemed pretty reasonable and only take a few minutes to the centre. The receptionists here were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was spacious, pleasant and pretty clean. All systems worked fine. Wi-fi is fast even in the rooms. The restaurant next door looks like it is part of the hotel but we were told it is a separate concern. It serves simple but tasty food at very reasonable prices. Sadly, the dirty walls, floors, tables and grimy chairs all detract from the pleasure of eating in there however we suffered no ill effects. But it's up to you whether to use that restaurant or head into town. The hotel itself is good and we would happily stay here again.
