It's a rare opportunity to stay in a beautiful heritage home, one that is impeccably maintained with all the original furniture beautifully maintained. Breakfast is delicious and wholesome, and usually comes with a history of the beautiful home from the charming owner himself. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable, very well priced for everything you get. This is an incredible place to stay, made warm and hospitable by the owner's personal attention. Highly recommend it.
We arrived very late at night and Roy the host was very accommodating with our late arrival. Unfortunately the rooms were not worth anywhere near the 5000 and 6000 rupees that we were charged. They were very very basic, lacked any heritage character at all. We had 3 double rooms and only 1 bottle of water per double was provided. We were charged for a second bottle of water. We had to check out early the next morning to catch a train. We asked that our taxi driver with whom we caught our taxi from the airport pick us up in the morning. Roy completely disregarded our request and arranged his own taxi driver and then charged us 700 rps to get us to the train station - this is a 5 minute cab ride and we paid 500 rps the night before to get from the airport to the guesthouse. On a positive note, the rooms are clean, but the guest house is not worth anywhere near the money that Roy is charging. This is a 2000 rps / double / night guesthouse - very disappointed, don't waste your money staying here.
This place is much cosier and quirkier than it sounds in its Trip Advisor description! The rooms are cool and tasteful - we had our best night's sleep in India in them. The interior of the home is filled with antiques, all with a different story. The garden around the house provides a tranquil setting despite being in a great location in the middle of town. We had lunch here on our arrival which was traditional Indian and very tasty. It's also very personal as the host of the house sits with you. The Col. made a point of sharing the wonderful story of the house with us which made us feel like we were staying somewhere with real character and history. All the staff were helpful and charming, happy to give advice or sort out transport. We would certainly return and really enjoyed our stay.
My husband, myself and a friend stayed here for two nights in November 2015 and had the best time. We immediately felt right at home. The owner, Roy, arranged for a cab to meet us at the airport, which was very helpful. Upon arrival at the house, we were greeted with chai and Indian sweets. The house is conveniently located off the main road in Trivandrum, so during our stay we were able to walk to some of the major city sights (Napier Museum, zoo, Connemara Market, Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Kuthiramalika Palace, etc). The surrounding gardens and the house itself is beautiful, with lots of antique rosewood furniture and stories to tell (if you ask). We had an A/C suite, which was actually three rooms (sitting room plus 2 sleeping rooms and one bath). The rooms were clean and comfy. We shared all our breakfasts and dinners at home, which were delicious, and chatted with Roy throughout. Anil and the little pup Ammu also made us feel right at home. :) We were sad to leave. This is a must stay for anyone wanting to experience a true homestay in Kerala! If we're ever in Trivandrum, we will definitely be staying here again.
The owner Roy makes this place. His helpfulness goes beyond expectations. A tour of his small garden and orchids is a plus if you like plants. Room is cozy though wifi and electricity cut off several times. Furnishings in common space are beautiful. Breakfast changes everyday and is fresh and tasty.
