Horrible experience. Basic amenities are missing and the owner cares least to correct them. Better rooms are given to foreigners and even when we asked them to upgrade(and to charge additional amount) we were told there are no options while foreigners walking in were being offered rooms. There was another Indian family which felt the same.
To add, amenities mentioned or promised are actually not offered.
The management has a saying hanging next to Front desk and it says - "Remember the 3 T's. Things Take Time". I asked for towel, I was told it would take 30 min. And then the staff forgot it. I didn't ask again because I had to chase them for every little thing. Ultimately, I checked out early and got another hotel.
We had one of the 1st floor rooms so unfortunately we didn't have a view of the lake. However the restaurant had one of the best views we have seen so this made up for it!
Great location. Really close to everything you need. Peaceful by the lake!
Restaurant serves really nice food! We ate here twice during our stay.
Room was nice. Spacious and clean. The bathroom didn't have a mirror but this was a small thing! Also the bed was broken on the legs so I was very conscious of moving on it.
Dream Heaven is a great place to spend a your time in Udaipur. The staff were very friendly and personable. We were going to stay two nights and ended up staying four. The price we paid was reasonable. The rooftop terrace is a beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere. The view from the terrace looks over the lake and the old city. Wifi is also available on the terrace.
If you're looking for a great way to add to your trip to or through Udaipur, consider spending your nights at Dream Heaven, you won't want to leave.
My partner and I enjoyed our stay at Dream Heaven immensely and ended up staying longer than we planned because we liked the place so much. Both our room and the roof-top restaurant had incredible views!
We stayed in 2 different rooms, the first was a basic room where we stayed for one night and then the next day we moved to one of the top floor rooms with an amazing view of the lake and super chill-out area for relaxing and watching the goings-on below.
They have a wide range of different types of room so if possible have a look before choosing one.
I agree with the reviewer who said there are many different types of birds you can see from this guest house; in particular at the more basic room we had on the first night, the window behind the bed opens onto a pretty flower-filled tree which was a popular place for sunbirds to hang out (similar to a hummingbird).
A few minor suggestions for improvement:
1) the first, basic room we stayed in had a green baize kind of floor and it was in need of changing, we almost wanted to look for another guest house altogether when we saw that floor but in the end decided to go with it for one night. It's really worth changing it then the room will be great!
2) the second, higher-up room we stayed in had about 7 lights in it and only 2 worked - 1 was an extremely dim, red light which was impossible to see by (only good as 'mood' lighting) and the other was a super-bright, long cold white bare neon tube. Really, it would be so simple to improve on this - install a warm white neon tube and put a shade in front of it so it's not so glaring and horrible looking. And fix the other broken lights. I asked 2 of the staff during our stay whether the broken lights could be fixed; one said it would be arranged (it never was), the other said he had to ask his boss, but nothing was done. To be fair they were very busy as it was high season and I know it can be difficult to remember to take care of all requests when you have a full house of guests.
3) The 2nd room had no place to put things - no wardrobe, shelves, alcoves, table or anything. We saw there was a shelving unit installed (but missing the shelves) - replace the shelves or come up with some other storage solutions.
4) The bathroom would be improved by installing a mirror.
Other than these very minor things we were extremely happy with our stay and highly recommend this place!
Special mention goes to the very nice gentleman who booked our bus tickets and then changed them to the following day at no extra cost due to my being ill one day and not able to travel (so we highly recommend booking your onward travel arrangements with Dream Heaven) and also to the very kind French speaking woman who always had a smile and willingness to go out of her way to help with questions or requests, she really made me feel welcome and comfortable and has a talent for customer service. The waiter in the restaurant was also very nice and made sure to accommodate special requests, and the housekeeper also went above and beyond to be helpful.
Thank you team Dream Heaven for a fantastic, super relaxing stay, and if you're thinking of staying here, just do it, it's really the best place!
We were super pleasantly surprised about this place! We booked one of the budget rooms (we didn't mind that there was no view from the room) and honestly, despite it being a 'cheapie' it was super nice! The window didn't open (it would have opened into a hallway) but it was this beautiful stained glass that let the light in in a really colourful way. There were borders painted around the walls and the room was quite colourful and pleasant. The bed was SO COMFORTABLE. Soft and the blankets were heavy and warm. I love coziness, so this is a big thing for me. The bathroom was also clean and this is literally the only hotel that I have been to in india that has provided a little complimentary soap and TP roll in the bathroom, which is a super nice touch.
The rooftop restaurant was nice too! Basic fare, but tasty and also THE VIEW is amazing. We spent a whole day hanging out up there when we checked out while waiting for the train, sitting in this pillowed alcove, and watching the many bird species (which if you are a bird person, as another reviewer pointed out, is AWESOME).
The building itself is also really interesting, lots of corridors and narrow staircases winding around and leading to other secret hallways and such. I wish I wandered around the building more! The location is also really nice, Hanuman Ghat is a little less hectic than Lal Ghat.
The only thing is that I wish they had wifi in the rooms too. But also I have data so its not a big deal for me?
Anyway, I highly reccommend this place, the staff were super nice and accommodating!
