Udaipur is like a 2nd home to me as I visit it every now and then whenever I need some leisure time. I have stayed in many resorts and hotels in Udaipur but this time I decided to have something different, so I decided to stay at Devra which is away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and is a home to Major Durga Das and his family. As we entered into the property we were welcomed by Maj. Durga Das and his cute little dog Olly. Both Maj. and his wife are very welcoming and excellent hosts. Talking about the property, it has 8 rooms and some rooms have a private sitting area from where one could enjoy the beautiful view of valleys and the Monsoon palace. The rooms are spacious, neat and very well furnished. There's also a terrace where you can enjoy the panoramic view of Lake Pichola and the beautiful City Palace. The food was good too and how can you forget the services of Ms. Seema and Mr. Prahlad who always welcomed us with a big smile on their face. All in all Devra might look like a home stay but the services provided by it aren't anything less than a Resort or Hotel. So, in the end, all I have say is that this is a beautiful and peaceful place where you can relax and forget all your tensions. The peace and views here will give you a peace of mind that you can only imagine of in today's busy world. I would surely visit this place again and would once again like to thank Maj. Durga Das, Mrs. Jyoti, Mr. Prahlad and Mrs. Seema for making our stay a memorable one.
Devra has a very homely touch which made us feel at home and very comfortable. The owners uncle and aunty, were very warm and welcoming. We got to meet their daughter as she was on vacation at that time. So she took us around and in Udaipur. Very kind of her to do so. Aunty cooked us some delicious, authentic, rajasthani food which all of us really relished and enjoyed. If one is staying here after reading this review, its a compulsion to request for this dinner. Every morning we got up to explore different places in the outskirts of the city, but the view from the terrace at Devra itself was terrific. One must wake up early to experience the most beautiful sunrise and birds chirping in the freshness of the greenery around. Uncle would keenly take us for bird watching and photography by the lake and hills. Olive their pet dog steals the show. She is a small little energetic and affectionate dog and will always be your companion in the property. The staff is very courteous and helpful. Over all its was a great trip. I look forward to coming back to Udaipur very soon. One that I picked up from rajasthan and would like to put it down in the end "Khama,Khama" I highly recommend this property to all the travellers looking for a peaceful, homely, refreshing stay in Udaipur.
It was a very comfortable stay at Devra, away from the hustle bustle of the city, very peaceful, limited rooms which resulted in the quite and calm atmosphere. Had an amazing experience staying here . Food is just mouth watering, home decor and the collection of books cannot beat anything. The ancient home decor gives a very nice feel. The scenic view of the City Palace and the Lake Pichola from the terrace is amazing too! Devra has a homely environment to itself.
Ingredients for a perfect homestay: take a beautiful natural location with views of Lake Pichola, add in warm hospitality and home cooked food, stir well and you have..... Devra Udaipur. The newer rooms at the back of the house are really comfortable and spacious, with beautiful marble bathrooms. You can wander out onto the shared terrace at the back of the house and enjoy the view of the hills and monsoon palace. If you go upstairs you will enjoy 360 degree views including of Lake Pichola, the palaces etc. Both terraces are perfect spots to enjoy a G&T after a hard day's sightseeing. The house dogs are very friendly - although can be removed if you are not happy to have them around. The little dachshund is especially cute! I and my parents enjoyed the delicious home cooking, which was done exactly as requested - low oil and no chili. This means you can really taste the fresh veggies and seasoning. The whole house is very peaceful and relaxed, with only a few rooms. We enjoyed chatting to the Major about the history of Udaipur which he is very knowledgeable about. Yet there is plenty of space to be on your own when you want some privacy.
Firstly the warm and friendly couple who own and run the place. We are your friends for life, Maj Durga Das and (Mrs) Jyoti Chundawat. The comfort of their home stay is unparalleled. Their own personal attention, right from the moment one arrives , till one reluctantly departs, is heartwarming. The home cooked food is delicious. Their willingness to cater to each individual requirement makes one feel just at home! Their staff is polite, hard working and well trained. The service at Devra Udaipur is efficient, courteous and unobtrusive. The rural setting of Devra, nestled in the hills with the Lake city in the foreground is picture perfect. Maj Durga Das and (Mrs) Jyoti Chundawat have beautifully preserved their Rajasthani heritage. Thank you DD and Jyoti.
