It's best days are long gone It's best days are long gone

Pros - one of our party was extremely ill & the owner gave her medication and watched over her while we went to find antibiotics - she also allowed us to stay in her son's bedroom in their family home due to there being no room in the hotel for us, however this may be a result of her not checking communication from Hostel Booker - the hotel is in a great location and gives the impression that once upon a time it would've been beautiful, and still could be if the owners cared about it Cons - as mentioned previously we arrived after an 8 hour bus journey to find there was no room for us. We don't know if this was because Hostel Booker didn't send her a confirmation email or another reason, but this has never happened to is before in any of the places we've travelled to - after one night in her son's bedroom (we booked a total of two nights) we were moved into a newly vacant hotel room. We had paid for a triple 'garden view' but the room was a world away from that pretty description - there was one double bed for all three of us, with no cover sheet. We were given thick blankets, which while warm were the kind you would put on top of a clean cover sheet, as it is highly unlikely they are regularly washed - the plaster was crumbling before our eyes on all four walls, and leaning a bag against them would leave it covered in white dust. The few remaining parts not crumbling were covered in green & brown mould - the bathroom was a non-flushing toilet & a shower dispensing ice cold water - both the bathroom & bedroom had metal gates covering the windows, which only served to heighten the Guantanamo Bay atmosphere. If they were supposed to be keeping out mosquitos, the large gaping holes in them were probably making this intention redundant - the locks on both the outside & inside were pitiful, taking a bizarrely large amount of strength of both close & open. We also had to use our own padlock as no key was provided - finally, and quite unnecessarily, our passports were kept for nearly 48 hours for 'photocopying'. We were first told they would be done that night, then the next day, then the next evening. This was after filling out all visa & passport information in a guest book. Absurd The hotel, like previously mentioned, looks like a few years ago it would've been extremely welcoming & a wonderful place to stay. The owners seem to have totally given up and happy to let it full into disrepair. The one main redeeming feature was how cheap the place was - 1400 rupees for three people for two nights - but there comes a time when standards are so low that you would much prefer paying a bit more for just a clean bed & bathroom. It's not a lot to ask.

The people were so friendly and the little kid is awsome. Telling all kund of stories we didn't understand. The room was very big with a nice corner to sit. The beds were a bit hard though, but fine otherwise. The have a nice outdoor space which is away from the street. Nice for reading a book.

Worst hotel in Udaipur - Be aware of this Worst hotel in Udaipur - Be aware of this

by dip007 on January 1, 2014

I have stayed in sevarel hotels in Udaipur, including some budget as well as luxury haveli. This one is the worst possible; and we could not even spend one night here; came in the morning and went to jaisalmer the same evening due to terrible state of the 'hotel'. The worst part is the room charge was more than Rs 1000; where the kind of service it has, it's poor value for money. Anyone can't charge more than Rs 300 for this property. The aunty and her daughter-in-law running this property does not have any sense of service quality. You will get killing smell of other room tiolets while walking in the lobby or the lane. Rooms are surely one of the worst in whole city. Be aware of this one; your trip will be spoilt otherwise

Lovable place; great value Lovable place; great value

We liked this little family-run hotel in Udaipur a lot. For 500 rs. we had a very spacious, quiet, clean double room, with a little bit of a primitive bathroom. Staff is in general quite friendly, the location is good and quiet at some 10 minutes walk from the City Palace, their restaurant has a lovely terrace, and we had plenty of opportunity to sit in the sun and relax without any disturbance whatsoever. Definitely recommendable.
