4 of us, middle aged mum & dad, plus early 20s son & daughter spent a very enjoyable two days here in early January. The location is excellent, right on the lake, and 5 minutes from the palace. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and tastefully decorated with interesting and appropriate vintage artefacts. Roof top terrace provides great views over the lake, and is a lovely spot to enjoy breakfast, dinner, or just a drink. A more friendly and low-key place than some of its more glitzy neighbours. Good value and highly recommended.
Visited the property through AirBNB and loved the place.
The best part of the property is definitely the view. If you're lucky, your room will open straight into a lake view, with amazing seating by the window.
Early morning breakfasts on the rooftop are facing Lake Pichola and are lovely.
WiFi here is very spotty, and I hope that it improves. No other complaints.
This haveli was beautiful. Our room was clean and spacious, decorated really nicely. The beds were two singles at first and we had booked a double bed, so they were going to be putting it together for us but when we got back we had to nudge them a second time and stand and watch them do it. Then we had to say we needed a double bed spread, not two singles (obviously...). So ok, service and communication in India isn't always fast or easy, but it was fixed. The main problem that I implore the management to look at is the shower situation. We had no hot water the first morning and the only employee who speaks English wasn't there. So when we got back we tried having another shower and it was cold. Told the english-speaking guy and he put the boiler temp up. So then....the shower literally burnt us and was EITHER freezing cold or burning hot OR just stopped all together. We were not the only couple who had this problem as another couple we met actually asked us if our shower had problems and they had an identical problem. The other problem is the WiFi. If you even need to just use it to check into a flight you have to be lucky that it's working. It's not a good excuse for them to say it's an old haveli as we stayed in others and the WiFi was fine. Theirs here is way too slow for the clientele who are coming and for the price. I'm not a person who spends hours on their phone on holiday, but just to use the internet to call home was a big challenge at times at this place, even when in the "premium" signal area. The shower burning us and the bad WiFi gets them 3/5 as other places we stayed at were just as beautiful but didn't have these problems.
To rooms at kankarwa are lovely. Due to been give a room with two single beds (instead of a double) we were upgraded on our second day. Both rooms we had were nice. Spacious, clean and with incredible views. The location is also perfect, within walking distance to all the major attractions and with plenty of great eating options nearby. The only frustration for us was that the manager is the only person able to action anything at all and he is rarely there. When we saw him the morning before we left, we asked to book a car to the airport and he told us to come back at 7 that night. We did, he didnt arrive until 8 and didnt apologise, just said he got busy. It was clear that there wasnt a focus on service culture and that certainly carried through to the surly service we received at breakfast (which was pretty dreadful) each morning. In the end though, the lovely views and charming rooms made up for the poor service.
Our cute little Kankarwa Haveli in Udaipur was more B&B than hotel, but it had character. As with most hotels in India, even the most expensive ones, the wifi was hit and miss, which is surprising and disappointing for all of the places we have stayed. Maybe its Rajasthan, more so than India, who knows. Our room in Kankarwa Haveli was a deluxe water view suite with three rooms the same size bathroom, bedroom and sitting room, all connected in a long single stretch. The sitting room had the windows that opened onto the lake and provided a sense of airiness and source of natural light that the low ceilings prevented in the parts of the room further back. The bed was firm, but comfortable, the toilet flushed well, the shower was hot with good water pressure, and the room was nice and cool. They did forget to replace the water and towels when they cleaned the next day, but apart from that it was fine.
