We booked this hotel because the reviews were good and it's position was great: we were very happy with our choice.
It is quite busy so we couldn't get an early check-in (our flight landed early in the morning), but this let us roam around the area where there are nice restaurants, massage parlours, leather shops and tailors (in case you want to have something tailor made).
The hotel looks quite high rise as the area where it is is not so wide. It is in the local style so expect marble and arched windows, but decorations are not too heavy.
The room was nice, clean and spacious but the best part was the bathroom: a huge marble bathtub and a big shower, plus two washing basins. The only issue was about a late night shower when hot water ran out: we told the reception the morning after and we were told that at night guests should request if they want hot water as the heater is usually turned off for energy saving reasons.
The best part of the hotel is the rooftop swimming pool by the restaurant: it was very nice having breakfast there.
Staff is very friendly and helpful.
I really can't believe we were at the same hotel as the one shown on their website, or that others here reviewed! All I can imagine is they have gone WAY downhill, or reviews are....? I am attaching pictures to prove it. I am mystified, the hotel website must have VERY old pictures.
Let me say upfront, I like old hotels, prefer them to shiny new ones, even if they are bit rough around the edges. But this place was horrible. I will sum it up with the old bathtubs left in the "courtyard", filled with brown stagnant water. If they are supposed to be garden art, you look at them in the pictures I posted and see what YOU think! But I will go on...
Desk was manned by a few young guys who didn't seem to know what they were doing and were not professional. Tiny elevator was a mess. Garden was really mostly dirt, plastic plant holders, not as pictured on website. Buildings/room seem to mostly look into each other, no views I could see, except of a crappy building next door from the stairs. Mold on the wall outside our door (see picture).
Room was in what appeared to be a newer building still being built. After reaching the third floor, the stairways continues up...sort of. In the dark, you could fall off as it is only a partially built stair, no even a chair set in front to warn you not to go up. To be fair, the room itself was not terrible, but not good...like bath faucets were not attached very well, swiveled around when we tried to turn on the water.
Upset, we decided to go up to the supposedly "great" pool area and restaurant for a drink and wifi. White chair covers were filthy. At night, the area might look very nice, but in daylight, yikes. Pool area tiny, even with only one lounge parallel to pool there was barely room to walk.
So, a cocktail will help, right? So I ordered a beer. Finally get it, bottle slapped on the table. Not opened, not a screw top. I get some and ask them to open it. He takes MY SPOON, and tries to pry the top off. He can't, so he gives it back. What? I ask another person, and he finally finds a bottle opener and opens it. Only 2 other tables there, not packed, not closed. What is that all about?
I can only assume there are better buildings, but I think the place has just gone WAY downhill as the main courtyard and roof top area are sad.
We checked out immediately and went to the Amet Haveli nearby, which was MUCH better, had great views, and a restaurant that can open a beer! STAY AWAY FROM UDAI KOTHI!
This hotel just has so much character which suits the city perfectly. Stayed here for two nights and just wished it could have been more. The hotel is going under renovation in parts but I wouldn't take that away from a 5* rating.
The bedrooms were just simply top notch.
The roof top is where the hotel really shines with a lovely pool and chill out area as well as a dinning area for breakfast and dinner.
The waiting staff and chef's were extremely courteous.
Hope to be back.
An amazing heritage hotel in the heart of the old city of Udaipur. They have a rooftop restaurant with a stunning view and delicious food to munch on. The staff are extremely helpful. Samar the owner is a great guy, helped us out through our trip if we needed anything. Had a trip to remember staying here. Will be back soon.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Udai Kothi for 4 nights on February 2017, and had the most amazing stay! The hotel is very well located (less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of Old Udaipur), it is absolutely beautiful (and clean!), everyone from the staff is super nice, friendly and helpful. And to top if off: the food is AMAZING! We had lunch there twice (I recommend the butter chicken! Best one I had in Udaipur!) Last but not least... the swimming pool.. aka the most perfect place to relax! There are very comfy sunbeds, and even magazines... We didn't want to leave the hotel! We also had a private boat ride arranged by the hotel, which we highly recommend. If I could rate this hotel 6 out of 5 I would! Will definitely stay at Udai Kothi again!
