We stayed the last two days of our new years eve family vacation with the Kapurs and such a memorable stay it was. The small but cosy & clean rooms, homely food, surprisingly quite neighborhood yet so near from the main places of attractions and above all the hosts themselves made our Varanasi tour even better.

Very kind hosts! Very kind hosts!

Aashray is a wonderful homestay in Varanasi! The rooms are really comfortable and spacious. Every day we stayed there, Mrs. Kapoor made really good local food for our breakfast and we enjoyed pleasant and informative conversations every morning. Mr. Kapoor is very proud of sharing his indian culture with us. We highly recommend staying in Aashray! The wifi doesn't work well. The signal is often intermittent.

We stayed at the Aashray Homestay during Diwali festival. What a great and unforgettable experience : the whole Kapur family was so friendly and keen to share their traditions (rituals, food, etc.). Beside the wonderful hospitality, our room was comfortable and very well equipped. The balcony outside our room was very pleasant and came in handy to watch the fireworks for Diwali!...

We were staying with the Kapurs when the president announced the demise of 500 and 1000 rupee notes, it was a panicky time as we were on a tour and only in Varanassi for 2 days and had booked (through the Homestay) a tour guide and driver to enable us to make the most of our short stay in the compelling city of Varanassi. We were reassured and allowed to pay our bill in the banned notes, which was a massive help. As to the Homestay itself, one of the most comfortable beds we slept in on our month long tour, extremely good value for money, delectable thick white cotton sheets and breakfasts while chatting to the lovely lovely Mrs Kapur. A good experience under very trying circumstances . An added bonus was being able to stay until our transfer, we sat upstairs on the little haven of a balcony ( was given tea and a snack) overlooking the communal garden square, where the constant noise and bustle seemed far away but was so easy to get into the hub of the action.

We arrived late at Aashray as out flight was delayed from Delhi and our driver could not find the accomodation which is a private family house off a main road. Our driver (not arranged by Aashray),Khalid was a young amiable man but lacked experience. We would suggest that the name plate of "Aashray" be lit/displayed either on the gate or prominently on the property as it was not possible at night to identify where this property is.Other than this, we found the room/amenities to be good and functional. We would recommend that the door key/lock to the room we stayed be oiled/adjusted so that it shuts first time without having to spend time turning the key. We liked both Mr and Mrs Kapur and his family and felt we could talk to them openly. We really enjoyed the early morning sunrise trip on the Ganges and the evening aarti on the Ganges and had a good guide which we had arranged from Delhi through the driving company. Last but not least we liked Mrs Kapur's cooking and had some nice Indian food instead of the usual hotel breakfasts which we had in Delhi.

Demo Trip Emerald room has a beautiful window & private patio - but this is a tad noisier because of it's large window. Go Pearl.

Demo Trip Go for a room at the front of the property if possible.
